Can you date a pane of glass from it's markings?
SavageSig replied to SavageSig's topic in General Chat
The lease is vague about the definition of maintenance. We're responsible for the interior and HVAC and plumbing, and she's responsible for the exterior. Believe me, none of the damage is intentional, and it's all very slight. It's just normal wear and tear. I have tons of pictures showing how old and poorly constructed the place is. We also did some cleaning up and filled in the few small dings in the drywall. The problem is we signed a lease with a lot of understandings with this lady's father. We got along well. He's retired now, and we think there's some power struggle between the heirs and they just want to sell and split the cash or something like that the second this guy dies. Our lawyer isn't too worried, but he says unfairer things have happened in Williamson County courts before. The courts there heavily favor the landlord in these types of disputes. -

Thanks for the help guys. I think the CGSB code is Canadian and I think they updated that with a new name back in '76. As to why... Long story short landlord is trying to weasel out of a 30 year business lease by saying that I don't maintain the interior of the property. The place was old and a dump when I took it. She took pictures of my door and said I need to replace it. Ridiculous because you can tell that it's been painted twice before by amateurs and hopefully proving how old the glass is would be icing on the cake. She also wants me to replace the floors, repaint interior, get rid of some sinks, mirrors, lights etc. All while I have two major leaks and the exterior is absolutely wretched. It's a weak ploy to break the lease but she's willing to roll the dice in the courts. Me? I just wantto run my business in peace without this hag lady getting on my butt about a scratch on the drywall back near the furnace. -
If I can date this pane of glass, I think it would be enormously useful in an upcoming court date with my landlord. It says in the corner of each individual pane: Tempered safety glass SGCC-701 1/8 -u ANSIZ97.1-1975 IGCFRI201CII CGSB-12-GP-I end quote. I googled it a little but I haven't found out much. Are one of the standards (as I believe these are codes the glass has to live up to) out of date and could thus date the glass as being X years old? One of these numbers a serial number? If y'all don't know, anybody know who might?

You must have mis-read that completely, because I wasn't sarcastic at all, nor was it only the sling. Shall I expound? I'm "pizzed" off because I paid 10 bucks to browse guns that, 9 times out of 10, were more expensive than Franklin Gun Shop, and to speak with owner/operators who don't know what they're selling and who refuse to haggle a dime off their bloated prices. I didn't find a single Mauser sling. Dozens of tables of "variety", and not even any plain jane leather slings? I only saw overpriced SKS slings (which a couple of unscrupulous vendors tried to tell me would definitely work with my "nonstandard slings", until I explained that no, that hole in the butt stock wasn't some hack job by me, but standard issue for a major army 70 years ago, and yes they make slings specifically in that style) and a couple of "tacitcal" slings. Of course, there was that nutter in the back selling Genuine Nazi Memorabilia, but no period correct slings. Got all those swastikas and a damn picklehaub, but nothing useful, huh? Oh, let's check eBay or Google: tons of slings. Except now instead of the 15-20 bucks I should pay, I'm really out 25-30 because of that 10 dollar entrance fee. Do we really need 9 vendors selling P-3AT's at 300 + tax + tics? Gee, that guy selling Cajun Food and the Jerky Hut really made me want to like the Gun Show, but nah. This is now my third one, but in the future, forget gun shows, unless I'm looking for an overpriced AR or AK or desperate enough to pay a 30 percent premium over retail for ammo. I think I find better deals 24/7 at Guns and Leather or Bellshire Hardware, and whatever I can't find there, I can find online.
-
I went. I wasn't very impressed. I went specifically to get a Mauser 98k sling for my Anschutz, and I didn't find a single one for sale. Really ticked about that...everybody I asked kept saying, "Oh, I'm sure you'll find a bunch of those lying around at another table" but no dice. I also didn't find any interesting .22's and only overpriced mil-surp rifles. I suppose the one guy selling 91/30's had them priced OK, but I'm not really in the market for one of those.

I only dry fire after asking for permission. I think it's fine for centerfires, but it's always better to ask when messing around with somebody else's equipment. I remember once that I was going to buy a Taurus 145 Mil-Pro from Academy, but nobody could tell me with finality if it was DA/SA or DAO. Sign said DA/SA, guy at the counter said DAO, and online apparently you could get either. I asked if I could just pull the trigger and find out. He said absolutely not, that there was a strict no dry firing policy at the store. So I said forget it.

Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to the Murfreesboro gun show tomorrow, so I'll keep an eye out for a good deal on a Mak-90. Are the WASR-10's seriously out of spec? I've heard complaints about mag wiggle and cheap furniture, but neither of those bother me much if it can still feed reliably from standard mags and shoot 4-5" groups at 100 yds.

You got that right. There are a gazillion .22 lr choices, and that's why I really like them and also why you should be very picky. For a first pistol, I think you should go cheap until you really know what you want. Waving a pistol around in a gun shop without shooting it doesn't really tell you much, especially if you're brand new to it all. If you're in the area, Guns and Leather in Greenbrier has an excellent array of .22's for you to try. Rugers, Buckmarks, P22, Neos, and I think I saw a Sig Mosquito there once with a silencer. Just be aware that they're used quite a lot, and some are very dirty and any jams shouldn't be necessarily blamed on the design. Once or twice when I rented the sights weren't set correctly on the pistols either, Like way way way off to one side. I'm guessing the fault of some piss poor shooter before me or the pistol being dropped on the sights or something. I currently have my sights set on a new Chiappa 1911 .22 pistol. Version 1.0 buying is pretty stupid, but it's had some pretty stellar reviews online. Looks like a solid pistol.

AK prices are falling dramatically. 599 for a stamped Arsenal AK, 399 for a WASR-10 w/ black furniture or GP-1975 with shooting package, etc. I might have to put that CZ527 onto the back burner, but what can you do wrong when purchasing an AK? I just want a dirt cheap gun that works and that I can run some 7.62 through on a range day. Is the Arsenal really worth it? Should I look for a chrome line barrel like a WASR-10, even though they reportedly have poorer accuracy and build quality? Is a GP-1975 a viable option?

Let's hope those bullets stop hitting you in the head. One day, they might penetrate that thick skull If you have to sell your familiar G30 or your wife's thoughtful gift to get a Kimber Ultra...I would say hold off, or at least try to get them to knock off more on the price, so that it's completely worth it. And if you had to choose between the two...how much do you love your wife? And do you want her to buy you firearms in the future again Edit: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=154091858 Is that what that pistol looked like? Looks like it says "Ultra Carry" instead of "Ultra Carry II". Dunno what's different about it.

Any Gearheads? Clutch engagement point too low?
SavageSig replied to SavageSig's topic in General Chat
Slave or master? Or still undetermined? I'm definitely going to the mechanic on Monday. -
We need a range report on that Auto Ordnance!

It's a nice gun, but I don't think you missed a steal. EAA is a tough sell on the used market. People want Glock, Sig, HK, Smith and Wesson...not really EAA. I wouldn't pay more than 350 for a well used EAA Elite Match. Less than 250 for a regular EAA.

In those thousands of rounds, have you ever replaced the recoil spring? Don't those quit after 3k rounds?

Any Gearheads? Clutch engagement point too low?
SavageSig replied to SavageSig's topic in General Chat
A small update: This morning I started up the car and the clutch felt dead. First half of the stroke was completely limp, and the 2nd half felt anemic. Car basically refused to go into 1st gear. Here's where it gets interesting: in desperation I mashed the clutch down 4 or 5 times and to my amazement, the pedal feel got progressively better. After that, the car slipped easily into gear and the engagement point was actually higher on the clutch. The rest of the day, I didn't have much trouble from the clutch. Any time it felt a little funky going into gear, I pumped the clutch a few times and then tried again with no issues. I ended up doing that maybe 4 times during 2 hours or so of driving. So what does that mean? I should also add that I was in a minor wreck and repaired less than a month ago. -
Thanks for the heads up! Has it been sporterized too? Original iron sights? I'll have to check it out sometime this week, as I'm pretty sure he's closed on Sundays.

Any good deals to be had? Looks like I'm heading up tomorrow.

Which Batman? Michael Keaton (my favorite), Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Adam West, or Christian Bale? While I agree that the script plays an important part as to whether you accept an actor as action hero or not, I would argue that scripts are a dime a dozen and that a true action hero knows whether that script will work for him or not. That's why you see certain actors who are in consistently good movies, and some actors who have 1 or 2 hits and then are horribly lackluster in the rest of their work. i.e. Steven Segal.

I see one for 275 on gunbroker. I might throw a bid on there. I also went to Franklin Gun shop to peruse their gun racks today. I saw two sporterized K98's that felt great, but they were asking way too much. 399 for a K98 and a cruddy Tasco scope. They also had a VZ-24 in rough shape, but it felt quite nice. They were asking 299, way too much. After I get my car diagnosed and fixed up, I'll probably pick one up from classicarms now.

Oh, Clint...I'd like him a lot more if he had just stopped making movies after "Unforgiven". I mean, "Gran Torino" and "Million Dollar Baby" are great, but they sort of dilute that hard-bitten image created by "Outlaw Josey Wales" and the Sergio Leone movies. But he is BA in "Heartbreak Ridge", "Dirty Harry", and "Kelly's Heroes". And let's not forget that he's one of the few Hollywood icons who knew how to shoot before getting an agent.

That is a cool story, and I'm sure your grandkids will love it. Just curious, what would you equate $15 to in today's dollars? I wish I could find a shotgun for $15 in any condition.

Yeah, I've got to say that Daniel Craig pulls off Bond better than most. He really gives off that chill of somebody who has a license to kill.
-
It's not the worst trade in the world. If he's your bud and he wants the Kimber really badly, I'd go ahead and do the trade. If he was some Joe off the street, I'd ask for a little cash compensation, if only because the new Gen 4 Glocks will cause that G23 to drop slightly in value.
