1. Oddly enough, when the AWB was passed the AR didn't enjoy the huge popularity with the shooting public that it currently does.  The AWB gave it a higher profile at the same time gave it the mystical allure of "I didn't want one, but now you're telling me I CAN'T have one, so I MUST have one."   The other "benefit", at least in the pistol area, was that manufacturers started working harder on what they could make - quality compact semi-autos that held 10 rounds or less.   That said, i don't believe we'll see anything like what we got last time.  I don't know what they'll try, but I'm sure we won't like it.
  2.
If you wanted a 9X19 Bersa has that as well. I have been wanting a .45 cal Bersa for a few years but have only found local. Good luck.
If they made a 9mm the size and appearance of a PPK I'd be all over it. The Bersa 9mm doesn't have the shape and appearance or I'd buy one.
  3.
Depend on how much it's losded.
Always handle it as if it's loaded.

  5. Get a PortableApps install. I run one from a USB key, but there's no reason it can't be run from the hard drive directly. Encrypt the entire PortableApps folder with TrueCrypt. Run Firefox or Chrome from PortableApps. Unless someone gets your TrueCrypt password they will not be able to access that browser at all. For the truly paranoid, or those who can't keep a PC from getting infected due to carelessness, idiocy, or the actions of family who have access to the PC, I recommend picking up a cheap PC (desktop or laptop as preferred) and doing all online banking and similar activities from a read-only Linux LiveDVD session. You can skip the extra PC if you don't mind booting your existing PC from the LiveDVD.
  6. As a fellow fat guy, my solution is to right-front-pocket carry a J-Frame revolver. One advantage to being fat - nobody questions a little extra lumpiness in your pants.

  8.
Somebody forgot the rule of "SSS". The burglars had it coming, I have no concern or care for them. The old man should have just bought a couple of hacksaw blades and a few extra gallons of bleach. Problem solved, problem staying solved.
I haven't heard anybody claiming that the teens aren't at fault at all. As others have said "play stupid games, win stupid prizes." That said, the "finishing shots" were what pushed this over the line from self defense to murder. Assuming the facts are as presented, that old man cross the line to murder at that point and deserves to fry for it.

    Powerball

As long as you're not spending money you can't afford I see no harm in it. If you decide to forgo a cup of Starbucks this week and buy a couple of chances at the $500M, I don't see a problem. It's the people who spend money they have no business spending that are the problem. But that's just as true of the guy who blows the rent money on beer and hookers, or buys a new gun instead of fixing his kid's teeth.
  10.
History time. The SMLE .303 was developed over 100 years ago. Millitary rifles at that time, were just starting to come on board with magazine fed verses single shot rifles. SMLE stand for Semidetachable Magazine Lee Enfield. The enfield was one of the first with a detachable mag. If you have everer tried to change the Mag out quickly you will understand it was not designed to be use often. Hope this helps. Jim
SMLE stands for Short Magazine Lee Enfield, but otherwise correct.
  11.
Didn't the anti-gun lobby coin the term "assault rifle?" Personally I cringe every time I hear the word.
No,. Assault Rifle is a valid military term. Assault Weapon is a term that was coined by the anti-gun lobby. They are not the same thing.
  12.
I have a Beretta Storm in 9mm takes the 92 mags. I like it alot had it several years with no problems. Pretty accurate gun and I like the build quality.
They also make a .45ACP Storm Carbine. Runs around $850-$900.
  13.
Yep. Been chased down before by a crazy lady who was convinced I cursed at her. Never saw her van before and my windows we're up. She blocked me in in a Walmart parking lot and got out of her van to scream at me like a loon. Coulda ended a lot differently if that were a dude.
If they're holding a gun or driving a large vehicle, their gender is irrelevant.
  14.
THank you. I will be singing that ALL DAY!
You're welcome!
  15. I'm glad to hear so many positive comments about them. Just for eye candy, here's a comparison: The Walther (in this case a .32ACP model, but the size is the same) A Bersa Thunder .380 and Firestorm .22

"I wanna Glock, GLOCK! I. Want. A. GLOCK!"
  17.
Killing someone over stuff is a bit extreme but my question is why bother with a loss prevention team if they can't physically detain the thief?
A large part of that job is looking more for internal theft, or for cashiers working with an outsider to slide things past the scanner without actually ringing them up, usually in the middle of other less expensive items they do ring up. There's a reason they have a camera right over each register.
  18. Nashville/Murfreesboro area.
  19. After watching Skyfall I have the itch for a PPK'ish gun. As far as I know, nobody makes a PPK style gun in 9x19, so my options are .22lr, .9mm Makarov, .32ACP and .380ACP. I have no particular need or desire for Yet Another Caliber, so that means .22LR. The only gun of this style in 22lr that I know of is the Bersa Thunder and Firestorm in .22lr. Does anyone know of a shop that carries them locally? Preferably in plain black. Or have some other suggestions?
  20. Careful, .22's are addictive. I'm up to 6 currently, and while I say all my gun itches are scratched right now, I can think of a couple of .22's I'd still like to pick up,
  21. If it's the totally unsupervised TWRA range in Cheatham County then I'm only surprised it's taken this long. As much as I get annoyed at the strict rules over at Hobson Pike, I'll take that over the idiots who hang out at the unsupervised range. Too many of them think safety rules are for other people to worry about.

    bad day

I have nothing to add except good luck and my hopes that you beat the odds. Keep us posted on your progress.
  23. Yep. Driving people away from gun ownership and making them think that supporting their Constitutional rights is tied to being with one specific party or opposed to another is exactly how we want to portray ourselves. Great job guys.
  24.
Yeah I don't like super human zombies either. After all they are human at their base and should not exceed the laws of physics.
You can excuse some things based on their lack of ability to feel pain. Without that feedback to stop you or slow you down, the human body can do some pretty remarkable things, at least for a little while.
  25. Looks like they're pretty much ignoring the book. Which doesn't mean this can't be a fun movie, but I like the book so I was hoping for a decent movie version.
