Didn't SCOTUS already say that using thermal imagers to find pot grows was unconstitutional? I don't see how this would be any different. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyllo_v._United_States http://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/533/27/case.html It's very interesting to read the opinion written by Justice Scalia. Read what he says about using sense-enhancing devices to detect something that would otherwise not be detectable. From Wikipedia:

This sort of thing has been happening with other operations (with less political/economic power than Amazon) for a while. When Newegg got big enough that they needed to expand they opened fulfillment warehouses in TN and NJ. When they did that they started charging TN sales tax on orders. No one is going to make you pay the use tax on what you ordered this past year, but this time next year when you place an order on Amazon you'll start seeing sales tax added to the total of the order.

Moratorium on pejorative "creative" misspellings
BryanP replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
I could introduce you to a couple of left-leaning computer programmer friends of mine (I don't filter my friends based on left-right political alignment) who were both math majors in college. I'm sure either of them could play that game with you all day long. -
Moratorium on pejorative "creative" misspellings
BryanP replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
Being civil and polite is not the same thing as being politically correct. Another forum I'm on instituted the following policy during the 2004 election and has kept it in place. And yes, they enforce it for people from both sides of the political aisle. It's worked well. -
"We won't make it so that black people can't vote. We'll just put arbitrary tests and taxes in place."

The real question is do you think the market will subside or not? I paid $300 for my SAR-1 several years ago. From what I'm seeing, if I find a sucker I could probably get triple that with no problem whatsoever, possibly more. But then I'm stuck wondering if I'll be able to replace it when/if the market finally does rebound.

H.R. 226 (aka "fund my next gun purchase please")
BryanP replied to BryanP's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
My search-fu is weak. Never mind. -
This is hilarious. I'm pretty sure this doesn't have a chance in hell of passing, but if it does I see me turning in a $200 Hi Point 995 for a $2000 tax credit. Congresscritters is sooooooo stupid. http://booksbikesboomsticks.blogspot.com/2013/01/cash-for-clunkers.html http://beta.congress.gov/bill/113th-congress/house-bill/226/text?q=h.r.%20226

Slow to load, but load it did.

You could pick up a tempurpedic pillow and make a test box. Cut up the pillow and fill the box to make something that's say 6"x6"xhowever deep that will let you go. Then do your own box'o'truth test.

Time for your annual health checkup, or it that Gun Checkup?
BryanP replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Since I don't see the question as being substantially different from 'Do you have a swimming pool' or 'Do you have cleaning products stored in easily accessible cabinets', I suppose I'll answer truthfully. "I do own guns, and when they're not on my person they're locked in a safe. Doctors have been asking about this sort of thing for a while, not as some political move, but as a health initiative. If you have these things and you have kids who get into everything, they want to make sure you're aware of what you need to do to keep them safe. And before you say everyone knows how to keep them safe, I'd point out that there's no intelligence test to buy a gun or install a pool or put a container of drain cleaner in a cabinet. Some people have to be pounded over the head with the obvious. If you don't like the question then don't answer it. "Just say no." -
Closing Gunshow Loopholes/Private Sales [Poll Within]
BryanP replied to xRUSTYx's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
After double checking, I've now had an FFL (I won't name him, he's not local to this state) tell me that it is a violation of the regulations he has to live with as an FFL. Apparently a firearm transfer inside the boundaries of the registered-with-the-BATFE business premises that escapes the FFL holder's bound book is verboten. Any FFL holders here want to chime in? -

Wouldn't be the first time I've been misinformed. -
Closing Gunshow Loopholes/Private Sales [Poll Within]

While I'm not in favor of this idea, I can see how they would do it. From what I understand, it's illegal to conduct a private (off the books) firearms transaction on an FFL's property. If some guy comes in and wants to sell his gun to JoeSchmoe's Gun Shop and you're standing there you can't legally offer to buy it from him on the spot. (I've read this before but can't find the relevant rule right now - I'm sure someone will come along and confirm this or refute it) All they have to do is make it so that this rule applies in the presence of FFL's set up at a gun show. Boom. No more private transactions at gun shows, but individual to individual sales are still legal. -
I just called their # and according to the answering machine they're closed for the Shot Show January 7-12 and will open again on Monday the 14rh.

Congratulations on your new toy. I started out with a Hungarian Hi Power clone before I lucked into a good deal on a FN. I sold the Hungarian and ended up regretting it and bought another just so I could have one that wasn't so expensive.

Reading the article the key quote is this:
“I don’t care if they’re licensed legal firearms, people who are not highly trained… putting guns in their hands is a recipe for disaster. So I’ll train our officers that there is a concealed carry law, but when somebody turns with a firearm in their hand the officer does not have an obligation to wait to get shot to return fire and we’re going to have tragedies as a result of that. I’m telling you right up front.â€
How is that different from anywhere else right now? If you turn towards a cop holding a gun in your hand there's a very good chance you're going to get shot. I don't care if you're in Chicago or Tennessee, I've always been told that even if you're completely and legally in the right, when the police show up your gun better be holstered.

Wow. Hey, I've got an idea, let's have him interview Leonard Embody next time. It would be about as productive and make us look almost as bad.

If it isn't overpriced it's nonexistant. Just for the heck of it I stopped by Academy in Smyrna since I was next door at Lowes. Not a single round of 5.56 or 7.62x39 to be seen. The only 22lr I saw was ratshot, and 9mm was almost as bare.

I suspect very much that a large percentage of people who believe in various conspiracies - whether about 9/11, the moon landing, or this - are doing so because deliberate conspiracy is more emotionally comfortable than living in a world where there exists random, unpredictable, almost unmotivated violence.
-
What a load of conspiracy nut crap.

Looks like they may have flipped yet again. I notice that if I go to CTD's web site the header saying that they are temporarily halting firearm sales while they re-evaluate their processes has now disappeared. I no longer see links to any firearms on their web page menu. If I use google to find a link to one of their firearms pages (they haven't taken the pages down, they've just removed the links from their menu), like this one, I get the page for the gun but no price and this message: CheaperThanDirt.com does not sell firearms.

I had to (god help me) go by Walmart this afternoon. While wading through the inhumanity I saw the ammo glass case and gave it a once over. It sure does look like a lot of us switched to 9mm this year. There was a sufficient supply of .380, .40, and .45. There was even .38 and .357, both of which were almost nonexistent in 2008. 9mm, .22lr and .223 were cleaned out except for a few boxes of zombie max.

He got what he was looking for - attention. He's just another troll.

It sounded pretty much like he was blaming violence on the influence of video games and tv. Great job Wayne, let's throw the 1st Amendment under the bus to try and protect the 2nd. Oh yeah, that's going to work really well. :shake:
