  1. Voting for someone you believe in can never be considered throwing your vote away.
  2. Stonecrest is a top notch group of people. I'm not happy with how fast this area is growing, but having a good hospital and ER that close is awfully nice at times. "Wow, what happened?" "Dropped a table on my face." Hard to top that one. Hope you're feeling better.

    Go Tennessee!

Very cool. I dropped about 35 last year, but I'm still a BFG.
  4. I have a 617 snubbie in .357. It's a bit larger and heavier than the 85 and shooting .357 out of it is Not Fun. You'll end up shooting .38 out of it almost exclusively unless you just enjoy pain. The only reason to get the .357 version is for the ability to shoot it if you really need to for some reason.
  5. I used to support them because they continued to sells guns and ammo. These days I every Wal Mart within range of me has ceased selling guns. I still go there occasionally for a few boxes of WWB ammo, but otherwise there's nothing I can't get from stores closer to me. They've become the ultimate expression of "anything for a buck." I find that attitude distasteful and choose to spend my money elsewhere when possible.
  6. If the XD9 is anything like as nice as the XD45 you will be happy.
  7. Yeah, I'm probably going to do that. But I'll try these at least once.
  8. Actually one of the reasons I like the RIA is that it doesn't have a rail or forward serrations.
  9. I have a set on my S&W 638. As an addon for a J-frame CCW piece that has minimal sights they are quite useful. If I have the opportunity to line up sights then I will, but the kind of situation where I'd use my little 638 may not allow for site alignment. To put another way, I think of them as training wheels for point shooting.
  10. The whole point of buying the "tactical" is that it already has most of the mods that would interest me. And yes, it has the dovetailed sights because they put the most basic Novak sights on it as part of that package. I may get a trigger job done on it and I may or may not do something about the lack of dots on the sight. That's about it. This is a range toy anyway.
  11. Well, I finally gave in. While I already own an XD45 and a SIG P220, I've resisted buying a 1911. I love my Browning Hi Power and I kept telling myself I didn't need a 1911. However, today I was at the gun show at the fairgrounds and this followed me home. It's an RIA Tactical. About the only thing I would prefer different is if the Novak sites were the 3-dot variety instead of the plain black. I suppose that could be remedied, either with paint or new sights, depending on how much money and effort I want to put in to it. Unfortunately I don't think I'll have time to go to the range to try it out for at least a couple of weeks.
  12. Nah. If there is a god then he probably opened the door himself and said "Get in here you funny sonva****!"
  13. It's your vote, cast it however you please. In the end the POTUS will be Just Another Sleazy Politician. Just like the last one and the one before that and the one before that and the one before that and the ..
  14. zzzzZZzzzzZZZZ *snort* Wha? Whazzat? Hey, you woke me up. Oh well. Might as well check the backups while I'm up.
  15. Exactly. Currently there isn't a bus that runs late enough in the evening out to the area where I live. The good news is that it won't cause your HCP renewal to be late.
  16. Ironically enough, if they put me on a 4 day week it will cost me money. Right now I drive 3 miles to a park & ride and take the bus. With the proposed new schedule I won't be able to do that anymore. I'll go from driving 18 miles per week for work to 160 miles per week.
  17. Why do you say that? It is my understanding that the workers still put in the same number of hours on the job, and they will be doing it so that some people are taking their extra day on Monday and others on Friday, so the hours of operation will not change.
  18. Welcome aboard. If I was going to leave the Nashville area it would probably be for the area around Chattanooga. Nice place.
  19. There won't be any staff increases right now. Everything is cut back now. I do IT work for the state and I can't even get legitimate overtime now. I have to "flex" any extra hours I work.
  20. I would only allow contact under fully supevised (by you) conditions. Nothing else would be acceptable.
  21. Carrying at work is not an option for me. Otherwise ...
  22. So what's the status of us semi-heretics who love our Hi Powers but do not own and don't really plan to buy a 1911?
  23. That's pretty much my experience so far. I keep reading about them being very hit or miss in the QC dept. I figure I'll hold off until things settle down a bit.
  24. Well, I guess given a choice between Disney, Universal and Seaworld I know where I'll spend my vacation dollars.
  25. If their new gunsmith is who I've heard it is, he used to be the gunsmith at Specialty Arms in La Vergne. He's good. Unfortunately G&L isn't nearly as convenient for me to get to as SA.
