So yesterday at 11am I head out the door to meet some coworkers for lunch. Just as I take my first couple of steps down the 20-step marble (or it looks like marble anyway) stairs to the street I lost my footing. Not sure if I slipped on something or if I was just that clumsy. I realized I wasn't going to be able to regain my balance, so I sort of ran with the fall, trying to stay upright as far down as possible. I almost made it. I was about four steps from the bottom when it all came apart and *whack* *slam* *pow* *skid*.
One of the people I was going to lunch with drove me to the ER. I had x-rays and a head CT. They didn't find anything (ba dum dum). No broken bones, but boy did it beat the crap out of me. Left hand, left knee, right hip, right shoulder and my face. The face looks the worst but hurts the least. Shoulder's killing me. I was half tempted to tell my boss "Hey Vince, you came *this* close to finding another position to dissolve in the next round of cuts."
As it is I'm home with darvocet. This breaks a long streak for me. At 41 I hadn't been in a hospital for anything more serious than a sinus infection since I was in single digits age-wise. I've never taken anything stronger than 800mg Ibuprofen until now either.
Here's me about 5:30 yesterday afternoon:
And again around 5:30 this morning.
