If you're still trying to disinfect it, I would start with these two tools:   BitDefender Rescue Disk:  Burn the ISO and boot from the CD.  If you can, have it connected to a cabled (not wireless if you can manage it) internet connection so it can grab new  definitions and run a scan   http://www.bitdefender.com/support/how-to-create-a-bitdefender-rescue-cd-627.html   For more general purpose rescue disk work (it does antivirus too, but it's not dedicated to it like the BitDefender) I use Hiren's BootCD   http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/

  My understanding of it (which is peripheral mind you, so don't quote me in front of a judge) is that State A and State B have to have an agreement in place (not all states do), and the respective Dept. of Human Services or Dept. of Childrens Services (whichever one is applicable, some states do it differently) coordinate the whole thing.  They then arrange to do things like directly dock pay and coordinate with the IRS to redirect tax refunds to cover back child support.  If the dirtbag isn't working, or is working off the books, there isn't much you can do.

  Ah.  My point wasn't that people should feel guilty about it or would celebrate it.  My point was that not everyone being affected is The Man (aka an employee of the Federal govt) or leeches on the teat.

  Child support is a state thing.  However, it used to be that an irresponsible dirtbag could move to another state to avoid paying it.  Nowadays there is a system in place where State A notifies the feds, the feds the notify State B, State B collects the $, which then is transferred back to State A.  However, with the fed side shut down the transfer is not happening.   And no, in the case I'm thinking of the kids of this person won't go hungry.  I'll see to that personally if it becomes necessary. Not everyone is in the same position though.

I'm sorry guys, I must have misread the title of the thread.  i thought it was asking how the .gov shutdown has affected you (or in this case, someone you personally know), not "Hey, let's mock the shutdown and anyone who doesn't follow suit."  I really need to clean my glasses.

The only computer I've ever set up for someone that I would consider infection-proof is a laptop with no hard drive, maxed out RAM booting from a Linux Live DVD.  They wanted something absolutely clean for online banking.   That said, you are significantly less likely to get infected running any of the more commercial *nix based systems, whether it's a Mac running OS X, a tablet running Android or iOS, or a Chromebook.  Windows is the most widely used OS out there and therefore it is the biggest target of the malware writers.  If everyone dumped Windows and switched to Macs next week, the malware would follow, but that's not happening anytime soon.   In my house right now you'll find 3 versions of Windows, iOS, Android and Linux.  Each has their advantages and disadvantages and everything is a tradeoff..  There are things I can only do with Windows, but I've never had to disinfect any of the others.

  Fine with me.  If they're not going to let ordinary law abiding citizens carry then I don't see why off duty LEO should get any special treatment.

You should read them up through About Remorse.  That's pretty much where I'd stop and let it go if I were to re-read them.  His early books, before he became Huge were really well written.

Being in Smyrna, usually I go to the TWRA range on Hobson Pike.  I like them, but they're kind of restrictive.   What are the options in our area for places that will let you set up reactive targets like spinners or even just putting orange shotgun clays against a hillside and popping them?  I'm not asking for tannerite, just something more interesting than shooting holes in paper targets.

  Then they likely could "fix" it by replacing the entire slide.
