  1. Yeah. They're way too proud of those things. Honestly? If they were making them true classics without the zit lock on the side? I'd probably have bought their Model 18 reissue. I have a couple of S&W revolvers with the zit lock, but I don't consider them collectible or beautiful, just functional.
  2. I will be going to my aunt's Christmas Eve gathering tonight. This will be interesting as it's my new girlfriend's first exposure to large portions of my family. Tomorrow morning is the standard small Christmas at my parents house. Sunday (or is it Saturday? Must double check ...) my girlfriend's family is having their annual clan gathering - at her house. This will be my first time meeting anyone other than her daughters. Ooh boy.

    I'M AWAKE NOW!

I keep mine in "cruiser ready", but I was not aware of them not being drop safe. Good information to have.

    I'M AWAKE NOW!

That brings whole new meaning to the term "accidental discharge."

    Stirrin' the pot!

I have a 590 in the safe. If it suddenly vanished and was replaced by an equally nice 870 I wouldn't cry. They're both excellent guns.

What's the quote? "The best gun is the gun you shoot best."
  7. Congratulations to both of you. Will you be wearing formal sidearms at the wedding? Or will hers be concealed in a garter-holster?

    I'M AWAKE NOW!

That was third on my list. First was wondering if my 649 had some hidden defect and it would go off. Second was damage to the floor. Stainless steel is lot harder than wood.

    I'M AWAKE NOW!

These days my nightstand gun is also my CCW. So the S&W 649 sits on my nightstand in the same Desantis Nemesis pocket holster I use to tote it around. I can't carry to work, so this morning as most mornings I picked it up to put it in the safe. I wasn't quite awake and it slipped out of the holster and bounced off of the wood floor. In doing so I swear it looked like that scene out of True Lies where Jamie Lee Curtis drops a SMG that bounces around shooting bad guys. It described a nice curling arc when it bounced, and somehow it kept pointing at me more than not. Yes, I know a modern gun won't go off from being dropped unless there is something mechanically wrong with it. All I can say is I went from half-asleep to fully awake VERY quickly.
  10. I have a 6" 617, but I really have a hankering for something shorter and lighter. Either a 4" K frame with no full length underlug (model 18), or a model 63. (4" J frame, no underlug)
  11. Oh man. The 18 linked above is being watched, but this was just posted and it's ... beautiful. Daddy want. Daddy just doesn't want to $865 (by the time all is added up) for it. S&W 18-3 22LR Combat Masterpiece DA/SA 4" Bl. Blue : Revolvers at GunBroker.com
  12. No doubt. And again, that would be my first choice. But I don't buy guns to collect them. I buy them because I want to shoot them (range toys) or to fill a specific role (ccw, hd). Right now I'm watching an auction for a nice model 63.
  13. Um. Yeah. As I said, I'm looking at multiple options. My first choice is a nice pre-lock model 18 and/or 63. If I can't find one I'd like to know what my other options are and how much they cost. Silly me.
  14. I've been looking at that auction and others. That auction closes on Christmas Day, and I probably won't be able to watch it. But yeah, I'm on the lookout for either a model 18 or 63. Buying one of the new "classic" 18s retail is not my first choice, but I was wanting to know if any stores in the area have one.
  15. I've been looking at the new "classic" series from S&W, and they've added one that's been on my want list for a while. Product: Model 18 Masterpiece - S&W Classics - .22LR Full retail list is $1011. Bud's lists them for $773. Still eek, but not as bad. Anyone know of a store in the Middle TN region that has one in stock so I could handle it? (Or someone with an older model 18 for sale?) I know a local b&m will be more than Bud's and less than full retail.
  16. "Is gun. Is not safe."
  17. Very nice. It's good to be recognized for your work.
  18. "Who ... does ... Number ... Two ... work ... for?!?!" Wait. That's is. Learn from monkeys: throw poop at your attackers.
  19. I've heard it's hit or miss as to whether the ATI stock needs minor fitting. I will most likely order a TS stock after Christmas. For those who want to be sure the TS stock fits properly, I hear you can send it to HiPoint and they'll do it for you for $20. So $40 and do it yourself, or $60 if you want them to do it.
  20. That's kind of what I've been looking at. Do I want to try the ATI stock or the new one they're shipping for the 995 as of now? I was hoping somebody on here had ordered one and tried it.
  21. Has anyone bought the new replacement stock from Hi Point for the 995 carbine? Any thoughts on how easy it is to install? Not the ATI stock, the new TS stock: Hi-Point Firearms.net - Display Accessories
  22. Nope. I pay for fire insurance on my house. I hope it ends up as a waste of money.
  23. *sigh* "My 46" Samsung 120hz set has a great pic. I don't need to buy another tv." Repeat until I believe it.
  24. Based on a quick googling, pepper spray has to be registered with local LEO, and tasers/stun guns are prohibited for mere serfs.

    AR Hype

The AR and the 1911 are extremely popular firearms. Magazines write about things that interest as many readers as possible in order to drive sales. While I own both an AR and a 1911, I tend to skim past the Yet Another Article about them.
