  1. That's on my list of options. G&L isn't exactly next door for me, and I know he's busy a lot. Besides, when I go bug him it's probably going to be to drop off my Hi Power for a thorough going over. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
  2. Okay, last year I picked up an RIA Tactical. Fun little gun. The biggest complaint I had was that the sights are plain black and not a decent 3-dot, bar-dot, or similar layout. I kept thinking "Looks like a Novak cut of some sort, I'll just have them put in a new set of sights for me when I get around to it." Today I emailed Novak and asked. Got this back: Doing some more digging all I can find are notes about having to order sights and file them down or have someone do it for you. Anybody around here ever put a set of decent 3-dot sights on an RIA tactical? Know of a gunsmith that will do it maybe? I don't want to put a bunch of money into this gun, and the sights are probaby the only thing I want to change.

    iPad

Looks interesting. I like that it runs iPhone apps, that will help its market tremendously. Now I want to see Asus etc... put out their own tablet running Android. And put an SDHC slot on it while they're at it.

    Dear Ruger ...

... Spend some of your money on freaking illustrations with the instructions for installing the Hi Viz sights and rear sight blade on your MkII/III pistols. I bought the Hi Viz sights for my Mk II 22/45. Front sight went in easily enough. Rear sight was a pain. I got the blade out, but misinterpreted the wording on the instructions for getting the new blade in. Fortunately after wasting about 20 minutes failing I dug around online and found this: 2245 Maintenance Page Better instructions. With illustrations. 2 minutes later the new sight blade was installed. The only other problem I had was needing 3 hands. And I don't have a vise, padded or otherwise. But a couple of minutes looking around the house, two cases of soda and some rope later and I had an improvised redneck soft vise that did the job just fine:
  5. I have a Pre because I'm still on contract with Sprint another year and a half. I like it, but I expect it to lose out in the long term to the iPhone and Android series. I'm hoping that by the time my contract is up that a decent carrier like Verizon will have the iPhone. If not I'll look and see what the current state of phones may be. In the meantime the Pre is a nice little toy that does very well. Does it have as many apps? No. Does it do everything I really need? Yes. For GPS I have Sprint Navigation and integrated Google maps. They work pretty well. And yes, apps are phone specific. iPhone apps will not work on Android phones. Android apps will not work on Pre phones. etc..
  6. I don't have to be a commie hippie to think megacorps and unions already had too much political influence. I've always thought the legal fiction which grants corporations the rights of a person with none of the limitations or responsibilities to be a truly awful idea.
  7. Everybody has their favorites. Lots of people like Grand Theft Auto. Me, I can't stand it.
  8. I'll keep that in mind while I'm raiding tonight. I'll add a TGO profile to my vent tonight. That is if you can stomach a WoW player on there.
  9. I actually carry and like both, but the primary thing I like about a revolver is that there is no wondering whether a round is chambered.
  10. Right. Sorry, I just had that discussion with someone else and the consensus was that the terms "liberal" and "conservative" have almost ceased to have any real meaning as they relate to national political parties. We've just got "the party of really big government" and "the party of even really bigger government", with the main difference being that one of them doesn't like abortion and is afraid of getting gay cooties.
  11. Move over Three Wolfs and a Moon. I proudly present ...
  12. edit: never mind. Brain cramp. I'm not awake yet.
  13. Actually the crappy enterprise level support I received was from people in America. But I'll admit that was a few years back.
  14. In the case of Dell you're paying for a brand name and some of the worst customer service I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. And that was on an enterprise level. I hate to think what the support on their consumer grade gear is like.
  15. I went yesterday morning and thought it was okay. Granted, there was the guy selling a used Hi Point 995 (with a bipod and vertical foregrip added ) for $415. And the usual complement of $400+ SKS rifles. :screwy: But then I found the guy selling the newer Hi Point 995TS (new stock, added last-shot-bolt-hold finally) for $229. Which is what I paid for my original 995. So instead of buying a stock for $40 I bought a new rifle and I'm selling my old one to a friend for $200. There was also an outfit out of Sparta which actually had magazines priced at non-stupid $. Shocking. So all in all I thought it was pretty good. I'll be back.
  16. Note to self: creating a spreadsheet that lists all of your guns, with lots of information, is great. Having a column that lists how much you paid for it is probably a good thing. Having an autosum on that column that shows you how much you've spent on guns over the years isn't such a great idea.

    Walther G22

I guess it depends on the person and the gun. I won a G22 in a drawing a few years back. Mine wouldn't feed reliably and I couldn't seem to shoot it accurately at all. Maybe it just didn't fit me. I sold it at the local fun show a few months later and put the money towards more ammo for other guns.
  18. If you pocket carry without at least a basic pocket holster then you are asking for trouble, front or back pocket.
  19. My first was an old single-shot .410 that belonged to my father-in-law. My MIL wanted to get it out of the house after he died. My second is the Mossberg 590A1 that sits loaded in the front of the safe.
  20. You could always buy a PCI IDE controller card ($20 or so) for this. You can buy them all day long for less than $20.
  21. Expect? I expect him to say that an entire nation's troubles are based on a two-hundred-year-old fairy tale, and further expect him to say that they'd better come to his way of thinking before even worse happens... using a 7.0 earthquake as a warning poster to boost his church's recruitment.
  22. Take your wife to a few gun shops around town. Let her try the feel of various .22lr handguns to see what she likes. She may like a Ruger 22/45, or a Browning Buckmark, or a Walther P22. She may decide she loves a S&W 617, in which case get ready to bite your wallet hard. Bottom line: if it's for her, let her decide what fits her best.
  23. He went on TV yesterday spouting off about the earthquake in Haiti. Here's the quote:
  24. tell Pat Robertson to shut the hell up.
  25. Would that make him a Primitive Baptist?
