  1. Okay, this isn't a "feeler" before putting something up for sale here, I just need to get some info and I'm not having much luck digging for it online. I finally got the upper I ordered from Model1 last July(!), and a friend of mine is interested in my old upper. Problem is I have absolutely no idea what its value might be. When I built my AR back around 2002, I bought an upper off of the equipment exchange on arfcom. 20", A2, HBAR. This was during the ban, so no flash suppressor and no bayonet lug. The barrel itself is a chrome lined Bushmaster, 1:9 twist. I'm not sure about the origin of the rest of the parts. It's always functioned well. So, if you were going to sell a 20" A2 HBAR upper, 1:9 twist, chrome lined, no brand name, no bolt, bolt carrier or charging handle, to a friend, how much would you ask?
  2. Since the Crazies is a remake of an older movie I'm curious if anyone has seen both versions?
  3. I don't have any particular dislike for Taurus, but the Judge is an oddball niche item which is wholly impractical for everyday carry. If you really want one, go ahead and save up for one, but the 642 is much more useful.
  4. It goes bang, ergo it goes in the safe.
  5. I bought a tactical last year. Very nice gun for the $. The only thing I didn't like was the plain black sights, which I have recently replaced with a set of Fusion 3-dot adjustable sights. I haven't seen a Match anywhere. If someone has one I'd like to see it just out of curiosity.
  6. I still have the WASR10 that I bought a years back. I'll probably sell it as I've since picked up a SAR-1.
  7. I've heard of this break-in period, but mine sure didn't have one. I took it to the range and put almost 300 rounds through it with exactly two failures to fire. Both of those were my fault - I hadn't seated the magazine properly. Once I realized what was happening and was corrected for it things worked beautifully.
  8. If the price was equal I'd buy the PM9. But then the price isn't equal and I still bought a PM9. Why? The PM9 is smaller, yet still very easy to shoot accurately. I don't know that I need a better reason than that.

    Wife help.......

I took my girlfriend shooting recently and she enjoyed it. The key was letting her handle and shoot different guns. So far her favorite is the Ruger MkII 22/45 .22lr. Later on she can work her way into centerfire pistols and such.
  10. Now I don't feel like I missed anything. I went to Outpost today and put my 1911 in to have new sights installed. That will have to do for now.
  11. That sentence doesn't parse well. Yes, Taurus has been known to have problems, but they also make some really nice guns. I don't currently own one, but I've owned 3 over the years and they worked quite well. Even among the Taurus bashers, usually they'll add a line of "But the models based on the Beretta designs like the PT92 and PT99 seem to work very well." Now honestly, if I had a PT92 and an equivalent Beretta in front of me for the same price, which would I take? Well duh, the Beretta. But if the price were significantly lower I wouldn't feel poorly served by a PT92 at all.
  12. Preessscccioussss. Hey, all the cool kids seem to be doing it. Let's see. S&W 649 .357 with Crimson Trace grips. I have it loaded with 135 grain gold dot .38+P. Desantis pocket holster. Kershaw Scallion knife, wallet, keys, Gerber Clutch microtool, Streamlight Microstream AAA powered LED light (VERY bright for a AAA powered light), the ubiquitous USB key with useful stuff on it,
  13. I'd buy from them, but I won't let them make a profit. Fortunately I haven't had to worry about it. For years before things went nuts I made a practice of grabbing a box of 9mm or .45 or .22lr on almost every trip to Wal Mart and stash it in the back of the closet.* As a result I haven't had any ammo problems in those calibers. I am starting to run a bit low on .38spl though. *does that make me one of the evil hoarders???
  14. I'd do it. But then I'd be afraid to go to sleep.
  15. After reading through the linked PDF file, I see only the vaguest connection to the stats you quote. Do you have a better source for this?
  16. Living by myself as I do, I'd be in the back of my walk-in closet with a cell phone in one hand (calling 911) and a .357 in the other. If I had kids that would be a different story.
  17. Sorry to see you go Mutt. I've noticed some of what you talk about. It's weird when things go so far right that I feel like the liberal in the room. But I just ignore most of them and sing to myself. "Moonbats to the left of me, wingnuts to the right, here I am stuck in the middle again ..."
  18. Thanks again. I just ordered a set of these, which I found linked in a thread on m1911.org. When they show up I just need to get someone to put them on for me.
  19. Right. Because the government went back and made this problem that affects multiple years worth of Toyota models, going back to several years before any "government motors" deal. Toyota grew faster than their QC could keep up. It's happened to American companies and it can happen to anyone else too. Me, I'd be on the lookout for a bargain from idiots who think they should sell their "defective" Toyota. Buy it cheap, get the recall item fixed and enjoy a good car.
  20. People have different experiences. My PM9 didn't have a breakin period at all. In hundreds of rounds I've had exactly two failures to feed, and both were my own fault for not seating the magazine properly. But I'll still continue carrying my S&W 649 for now.
  21. So you carry a revolver too?
  22. Ah, this argument again. One of the most telling comments I've ever read was referring to a gentleman who had spent many years fighting in African wars and had made extensive use of both AK and AR family rifles. I can't quote him exactly, but the gist of it was this: "The AR is a lot better than most people give it credit. The AK isn't nearly as bulletproof as those same people will say. Either will do a fine job if handled properly."
  23. Mmmmkay. My trash didn't get picked up on Friday either. It's a private business, but I pay their salaries too. They failed me.
  24. Thanks for the info. I'll look into them. Much appreciated.
  25. Check the first message. Novak seems to disagree.
