  1. Really? I've never heard about loaning being covered in ATF regs.
  2. BryanP

    New sp101 22lr

Part of me really wants one of these. I already have a S&W 617 and a S&W 63, so I have a hard time justifying it.
  3. Unfortunately this is my situation as well.
  4. Something like this? | Sentry® Safe | G2459E Gun Safe I have one similar to that except with a dial lock*. The movers just loved hoofing that up stairs. As safes/RSC type things go it's nothing special, but it's much better than a stack on and it fits nicely in the back of a closet. And if that's too big they have smaller versions. *wish I'd gotten a keypad lock instead
  5. I have a RIA Tactical. I haven't put anything through it but WWB hardball, but it's a great shooter.
  6. Maybe not in TN, but there's at least one in GA. I wish I'd kept the story since I can't find it now, but a few years back I read an article about a woman in the Atlanta area. She had just turned 18 and her boyfriend was just about to turn 16 when his parents decided to press charges against her after she was caught with him. She was forced on to the sex offender registry. They're both adults now. They're married. She's still on the registry. The law has been changed since then - these days she wouldn't be placed on the registry for what she did, but they didn't go back and remove people who were caught up in this crap before. They went to buy a house, and because of her status they knew they had to be careful; it couldn't be too close to a school or a daycare center or anything else with kids. They bought the house, then found out there was a private unadvertised daycare in a private residence within the distance limit. Now they own a house she can't live in.
  7. Oddly enough I heard the same sort of thing from liberals when W was running for his second term. And then again at the end of his second term And the same thing from conservatives back when Clinton ran for his second term and yet again at the end of his second term. I suspect if Obama wins we'll hear the same thing again at the end of his second term.
  8. Well, I did replace the sights on my RIA Tactical with a set of Novak-style 3-dot sights. I may one day put it in with a gunsmith for a trigger job, but it's not a high priority.
  9. When a company in the Phillilipines began selling 1911's for $4-$500, people bought them and it turned out that they don't suck. I'm sure for the Serious 1911 Aficionado they're not good enough, but for me a 1911 is a fun toy. I carry my S&W 649 or my Kahr PM9. If I was going to reach for a handgun in my house (other than the two previously mentioned) I'd either grab my Ruger GP100 or my XD45. But then I'd probably just go for the 12ga. My RIA 1911 is purely a fun range toy and would get sold early on if I needed to downsize.
  10. A) Big talk when our country is trying to tell people pizza is a vegetable. You wouldn't want to give plain bottled water to someone who is dehydrated. In some cases it can actually make things worse. Dehydration also involves the loss of electrolytes (salts etc..). If you add water without replenishing them you can die from hyponatremia aka water toxicity. For very mild dehydration water is fine, otherwise you'd want a gatorade-style drink or something like this.
  11. If we elect him he'll just run off with a younger, prettier, (and by all accounts crazier) country.
  12. Is anyone going to take note that the THP apparently disagrees? The trooper who let him go has been fired.
  13. I have a 6" 617 that I sometimes wish I'd bought in 4". Nice guns.
  14. I own a 6" 617 and it's great to shoot. I used to own a Taurus 94. It was 100% reliable and fun to shoot single action, but the DA pull is awful. I haven't had a chance to try an SP101 in .22lr, but I'd love to try one. That said, if at all possible let your wife try them out, don't pick a gun for someone else.
  15. Meh. There's plenty of stuff to watch in the meantime. If I miss some stuff while they work it out I'll either watch it on Hulu or just download it.
  16. I'd post a pic of mine but it looks just like this one - a 3" exposed hammer sporting the Hogue grips. Great little gun.
  17. Interesting. I can find the mid-sized 9mm RIA online, but that appears to be a mid sized 9mm Tactical, which I don't see listed anywhere. Where did you get it?
  18. Making threat assessment and security implementation the purview of a single organization is a mistake. You do that and it starts inventing reasons why it should grow.
  19. The first rifle I bought was a Marlin 1894C in .357. It's on the list of guns I will never ever sell.
  20. Simple rule people: if you're carrying you don't drink. Not even a little bit. No, not even "just one beer." If you want a drink, put the effing gun back in the safe first.
  21. Looks like AMC will be replaying the entire first season (all 5? 6? episodes) on Sunday prior to the premiere of the new season.
  22. I have a set of CT grips on my S&W 649 and another set on my Kahr PM9. I highly recommend them, and for a gun that isn't a fun gun/target gun I consider them to be a great investment.
  23. Not surprising. This isn't a right vs left issue. You get similar reporting both from people on the way-out far right (like the link at the top) and at the other end of the spectrum like HuffPo: Chicago State's Attorney Lets Bad Cops Slide, Prosecutes Citizens Who Record Them
  24. Unfortunately none of the movie versions have ever done a proper adaptation of the story. A pity.
  25. Ah, good to know. I don't have any plans to buy another one, but it's good to know what the problem was in case I happen to luck into a really good deal on one.
