  1. Could easily have been a loud noise that someone mistook for gunfire was mis-reported.  Someone goofing with fireworks.  Transformer on a power pole. Backfiring car. Or just a prank.
  2. I'm afraid to ask what they want for it.
  3.   It was probably one of the two examples I listed above.  Looks like you'll only get sales tax if it's sold by Amazon directly. Fulfilled by Amazon doesn't count.
  4. I just finished setting up a new laptop for us at home. My wife really fell in love with the touch screen laptop she played with at the store, so Windows 8.1 was what I went with. It's annoying at first, but once I installed Classic Shell on my profile most of my complaints went away. It basically makes it do a decent impression of Windows 7. http://www.classicshell.net/ Oh hey, I have my start menu back! And here ya go, the file manager / explorer is back to normal:
  5. I tell new shooters to memorize the letters LMFT and let them go through your mind as you're handling any firearm.  It's just another way of memorizing the four rules, but I've found that people will memorize an acronym faster than the full verbiage.   It's Loaded! Always assume it's loaded. Watch where you're pointing the Muzzle! Don't point it at anything you're not willing to destroy. Keep your Finger out of the trigger well until you're about to fire. Keep your bugger hook off the bang switch works too, but there's no F in it. Identify your Target and be mindful of what is past your target if you should miss.   At least she managed to follow M and T.  If you can manage that the worst thing you'll have is some property damage and hearing loss.  That and having to explain to the police / family / friends / coworkers / boss etc... why you just blew a hole in the <insert object here>.   And yes, I know I'm preaching to the choir around here.  :D

No, you don't.  It's legally a pistol, not a rifle.  However, that also means that you can't put a butt stock on it as you are then turning it into an SBR.  That's when tax stamps and permits and more paperwork come in.
  7. Well, not really an update. More an 'Hey, I hadn't noticed that before' thing. I put it all in an image so could just link it to people without having to type anything extra. Short version is I have placed one order this year where I paid sales tax, and then another order where I didn't have any. I went back and looked and this is what I noticed.
  8.     Okay, fine.  Let's say we let all ISP's give up net neutrality.  Then they also should legally lose their safe harbor status as they would no longer qualify.  UPS isn't responsible for someone shipping a kilo of Columbian cocaine through their service. They don't open packages or know the contents in the normal course of their business. They are granted safe harbor from prosecution because of that. If they DID open every package and still shipped illicit drugs, they would be liable. By saying they should be able to throttle traffic based on source and who is requesting it, ISPs effectively want to open up every package, inspect the contents and make changes because of said contents. So every time the cops nab a pedo that downloaded child porn, you could (and if they are not content neutral, SHOULD) convict the ISP as an accessory.  Except it'd never happen as telcos & ISP's are regularly granted immunity for illegal conduct, such as the FISA Amendments Act of 2008.
  9.   Those two sentences have nothing to do with one another.  Net Neutrality is about quality of service delivered, not quantity of bandwidth.  Here's a better example using real work possibilities.   Let's say you have Comcast internet.  RIght now, if you have Hulu and Netflix, they get the same priority from Comcast when you request one starts sending you information.  Comcast can't discriminate one over the other.  Now let's toss the concept of Net Neutrality out the window.  Oh hey, Comcast owns a 1/3 stake in Hulu.  They have a vested interest in Hulu doing better than Netflix.  If they choose to do so they could set up a rule that says a request to Hulu gets higher priority (meaning more bandwidth, better response time,) and Netflix gets reduced priority.  The end result is a customer who says "Man, Hulu works great, but when I try to watch Netflix streaming video it keeps pausing and buffering.  This sucks.  Guess I'll go watch some Hulu."
  10.   Uh, no we haven't.  Or I haven't at least.  Lethal force is a last resort.  I don't fantasize about using it on people.
  11.   Why?  From what I've read the new owners have no intentions of changing anything.  The existing management and workforce, methods etc... are to continue.  "You just keep doing what you do and let the profits roll up to your new owners."
  12. There's a reason the Founders wrote that the way they did. Inhumane / excessive punishment was permitted under English law.  It didn't serve a purpose then, it wouldn't serve a purpose now.
  13. It sounds like you've got your answer. I know when I help people I don't ask them to pay me back, I ask them to help someone else. Maybe that's what she was doing.
  14. Nice.  I don't need a red dot at the moment but I'll keep this in mind.
  15. I just put some magpul furniture on my AR.  I need a set of flip up sights.  I can't use their front sight, (it's going on a railed gas block) but I think I'll order their rear sight and pair it with someone else's metal front sight.
  16. We don't all have to have the same views to support the 2A.  To paraphrase someone else (because I can't find the %&* link to give attribution), just because I'm pro 2A I seem to be automatically lumped in with certain other political views by default that I don't necessarily share.   Being in favor of the Second Amendment does not mean I'm part of the 'bortion bannin', homo-hatin', the 1st Amendment only applies to Christianity (and maybe Jews if we decide we like them this week), hey let's go bomb some moo-slims and pay for it with money we don't have crowd. You can order your political views a la carte.
  17. Good for them. I'm always glad to see others, no matter whether their political views align with mine or not, exercise their 2nd Amendment rights.

    Good Ak 47's

I've owned two Century branded Romanian AKs, a WASR and a SAR-1. I'm sure all the high dollar AKs are far superior, but they both worked great for me.
  19. There are many threads about this at the verizon support forum. This one is very recent: https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/812595
  20. Muchos gracias!
  21. Yeah, right now the only options I have are AT&T DSL (which is what I have) and Comcast.  I keep hoping FIOS or U-Verse will come to my area but so far nothing.  Comcast would be more expensive.  I have to admit, the Comcast Business option looks pretty good.  16/3 with no cap is way better than what I have now.
  22.   The one near me has everything except .22.  The guys behind the counter tell me the same people are waiting every time a shipment comes in.
  23. As usual Tamara said it better than I did.
  24. Meh.  If you live in the public eye you are subject to public judgement.  Dixie Chicks anyone?  They used their right to free speech and effectively got "fired" by pretty much every country radio station.    He has a right to his views.  A&E has a right to not put him on their channel.  We have a right to tell them we agree or disagree with them by voting with our eyeballs. If enough people do it, then A&E's employer (the advertisers) will pull out.
  25.   My first thought.
