  1. It's a story in the BBC, but the person talking is Elizabeth Moon, US Citizen, USMC veteran. She's actually a pretty decent writer, I have quite a few of her books at home. That said, I disagree with her on this subject.

    Roofing

I've used Hammerdown Construction with great success. They replaced the roof on my old house and did some minor work on my new one and I was quite pleased with their work. http://www.hammerdowntn.com/
  3. I've always wondered just how reliably those big helical magazines were.
  4. Watching other stuff. Reading "Adrian's Undead Diary." Working around the house.
  5. Based on everything I've seen and read, I couldn't vote for 2nd degree murder, but manslaughter? Yes. The problem with a manslaughter conviction is it will just piss off everyone. The people who want him crucified for murdering "that poor defenseless child" will not be satisfied, and the people who insist all Zimmerman did was defend himself from a "vicious thug" will be just as mad. Me, I think Zimmerman showed extremely poor judgement and as a result he ended up causing a situation where Martin thought he had to lash out and we see the results.
  6. If Google ever gets the driverless car concept perfected, I could see states putting out driverless patrol cars with the 360 degree camera mounts that Google currently uses to record their Street View images.
  7. Here you go: http://www.sgammo.com/catalog/pistol-ammunition/9x18-mak High quality hollow points, $14.95 for a 25 round box. Russian FMJ ammo, $9.95 for a 50 round box.
  8. I say Focus, but then I'm more about practical than flash. But then I'm also the guy who says that new cars are a sucker's bet. I let you guys take the butt pounding on that initial 2-3 years worth of depreciation. I'll stick to buying nice 3 year old used cars and driving them until they fall apart. Rinse and repeat. (got 278,000 miles out of my last car, just about to cross 100K on the current car)
  9. All credit card fees are passed on to the buyers (of any item) as part of the price itself. You're fooling yourself if you think otherwise. The reality is that people who pay cash (quite the minority these days) are just paying the 3% built in to the price anyway, they just don't know it. Sellers who offer a cash discount are just being honest about it.
  10. a) It's obviously a pretty good sized snake of it's type. They still felt the need to use forced perspective to make it look larger. edit: apparently a "b" followed by a ")" becomes
  11. I guess the biggest problem is the wildly ranging experiences people seem to have. Their QC seems to fall all over the map. Me personally, I've owned 3 of their revolvers (2 .357's and a .22lr), and didn't have a bit of trouble with them. I've upgraded to nicer guns over time, but I was well served by the Taurus revolvers I owned. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if I felt the need.
  12. I'm not, but every ad I see for them states that their flip up front sites are specifically not to be mounted on gas blocks, only on handguard rails.
  13. Thanks for the input everyone. I'll probably end up ordering a set of Yankee Hill. Probably more than I want to spend for something that won't get a whole lot of use (I like the eotech), but what the heck. Looks like a set of YH will run about $150.
  14. Oh, and the front sight has to go on a railed gas block, which means I can't use the Magpul or any other polymer sights.
  15. Right now my flat top AR just has an eotech on it. I'd like a set of flip up iron sights. Need both front and rear, I'd like them to be reasonably nice but not too expensive. Am I asking too much? Any recommendations?
  16. What a load of garbage. There are precisely two things that have made flying safer since 2001, and neither has a damn thing to do with the TSA. 1) Reinforced, lockable doors on cockpits. 2) Passengers who know better than to acquiesce and sit quietly while a hijacker does their thing. Perfect examples being the shoe bomber - passengers beat the crap out of him - and the pilot who went off his rocker recently. The copilot locked his butt out of the cockpit and passengers restrained him (beat the crap out of him).
  17. This page has a pretty good description along with info on how to fix it. http://gunguyoh.trip...triggerslap.htm
  18. I used to own a a converted WASR that took double stack mags. It was quite reliable, never had a bit of trouble out of it. I did have the trigger slap problem you'll see mentioned, but that's easily corrected. In my case I put up with it until I bought a nicer AK. If this is an unconverted single-stack WASR-10, it's a perfectly shootable, reliable rifle in 7.62x39. However, it will be limited to the 10 round single stack magazines. I've heard that magazines for it can be hard to come by. If it will accept double stack magazines then it's the same gun but will take standard AK mags.
  19. Short version (all from memory, so if someone else wants to pipe up with corrections go for it) is that Century Arms used to import the SAR series of semi-auto Romanian AK's. New import regs stopped that, so the Romanians came up with the WASR-10, which is just like any other AKM except it takes single stack 10 round magazines. Up inside it's still an AKM, so Century would import them, replace enough foreign parts with domestic production parts to make it legal to convert, then widen the mag well to accept standard 30 round magazines. They also sold the unmodified WASR-10 rifles, and it sounds like that's what you have. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WASR_series_rifles#WASR-10_and_variants
  20. Are you talking about the un-modified WASR-10? Takes 10-round single stack magazines?
  21. It doesn't really appear to me that the media is "burying" the attack. Here's the key paragraph as to why it's not getting much coverage:
  22. In that specific case, I wouldn't buy any rifle in that condition, and if I owned one I'd either keep my mouth shut or contact the ATF and ask them what I need to do about it.
  23. I'd say as many as you can manage, with 10 being a good ceiling. For AR's, AK's and such it's easy. For guns with pricier mags you have to do it over time. If a gun is purely a range toy I could see not bothering with more than 2 or 3.
  24. The constitutional bit is probably a jab at the idiots who try to claim the amendment authorizing the Income Tax was never properly passed and therefore can be ignored. Lots of people have tried this. They end up in jail.

    Amazon.com

Except that's not what's happening. This tax has been in existence for many years, it's just that they pretty much have to rely on people voluntarily paying it. And technically that's still the case as Amazon isn't directly reporting this information to state govt. They're just making a point of reminding you about it. What would be interesting would be if Amazon supplied the sales data to the State Dept. of Revenue and they in turn decided to try and enforce the use tax.
