I have a Marlin 1894c in .357 and love it. That said, I've heard they're hard to find and I've also heard complaints about QC issues in recent times. I bought mine back in 2000 for around $400, but I'm guessing you'll pay rather more for one now. Other than the "Wow, they look kinda cool" factor I've never understood the Mares Leg appeal. As a rifle they have reduced magazine capacity, shorter barrel and no proper stock. As a pistol they're awkward and just not that useful. But hey, if you really want one there's no real required reason beyond "Cause I want it!"

Charlie Sheen to donate minimum of $1M to USO, troop morale
BryanP replied to TMF's topic in General Chat
If he's going to help out our troops I'm certainly not going to stand here and question his motives. -
For one thing "suspect" is not the same as "criminal" and people treat you differently when they know you've been a suspect. A buddy of mine was a "suspect" in a child molestation case for about 10 minutes. That was how long it took for them to get some questions out of the way and confirm he had nothing to do with it and the other guy was who they were after. Didn't matter - people treated him differently merely because he was questioned in relation to the event.

Zimmerman is now apparently a child molester.
BryanP replied to gjohnsoniv's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Depends on the character of those involved. I know it's popular on here to think all liberals are amoral scum and all conservatives are angelic little snowflakes of upright moral fortitute. Sorry, but I've seen too many of good and bad on both sides to fall for that line. I remember during the OJ trial a friend of mine who is a defense attorney and as liberal as they come (we're talking your classic 60's Berkely Law graduate - a great friend who I happen to disagree with on some subjects) was watching the trial like the rest of us and saying "Oh come on, he's so guilty it's not even funny, but the prosecution is screwing up by the numbers." The knee jerk reactions from the left and the right are getting annoying. Apparently if you're a conservative you're supposed to support Zimmerman, and if you're a liberal you're supposed to be screaming for his head. This seems to extend to automatically believing or dismissing the new information based on your pre-existing beliefs. Me, I'm going to wait and see, even if it means I'm not a "real conservative" because I have my doubts about Zimmerman. -
According to other reports I've seen, they weren't at "the wrong address." They saw the motorcycle of the guy they were looking for parked out front so they knocked on the door. Guy opens the door pointing a gun. You know the rest. http://www.wesh.com/news/central-florida/Deputies-shoot-kill-man-after-knocking-on-wrong-door/-/11788162/15527202/-/euk6tg/-/index.html Deputies thought they were confronting Jonathan Brown, a man accused of attempted murder. Brown was spotted at the Blueberry Hills Apartment complex and his motorcycle was parked across from Andrew Scott's front door.

Lots of poor choices made here. We already know what the police did, so let's look at the other side of the equation, the one we actually control. If the report is accurate, he opened the door, gun in hand. If he had looked through the peephole first he would have seen uniformed cops outside and probably would have thought better of that. If he had yelled "who is it" first they may have identified themselves and he would have at least hesitated. Yes, I know, he was under no obligation to do that. His home, no reason he can't answer the door in his boxers toting a flamethrower if that's his preference. But there's lots of things that are perfectly legal choices that are poor choices nonetheless. It's legal for me to walk out into the crosswalk the instant the light changes and the "walk" sign lights up. I am under no obligation to look and make sure traffic has halted, I have the right of way. If I were to start doing that (especially near where I work) I'd be a dead man in pretty short order. Would I be in the right? Sure. Would I still be dead? Yep. If someone comes pounding on my door in the middle of the night, I'm going to be carrying when I go down there. I'm also going to check the peephole first and yell through the door to find out who it is. If they claim they're the police I have no problem telling them I'm calling in to double check they're legitimate.

Anyone have an RIA .22TCM or know anything about them?
BryanP replied to AlvinCYork's topic in Handguns
The nice thing is that even if .22TCM flops horribly, you still have a 9mm 1911. By the way, here's an informative thread over at The Firing Line where they has out the ins and outs: http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=476867 -
"Inaccurately attributed quotes are the bane of the internet" - Abraham Lincoln http://www.snopes.co.../prosperity.asp Or, if you prefer: http://bit.ly/NhhMcD

I don't miss him one bit, but I'm no fan of the current guy or his competition. Every time we have a Presidential election I think "Wow, this is bad. I'm pretty sure there's no way they could give me a worse choice." Four years later, every time, it's like the DNC and the GOP channel Barney from How I Met Your Mother. "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!"

In part. You'd also have to go further back to the Hammurabic codes.

To give Glock (and all the other polymer guns) their due, I'd like to point out this: http://booksbikesboo...good-point.html It is also notable that the steel slide wore out before the polymer frame, which were once thought to be too fragile. I love wood and steel, but the polymer durability question has now been definitively answered.

And then there's dealing with people for whom Glock is the only answer ... (for the record, I like Glocks just fine, I just enjoy laughing at people who take it all a bit too seriously)

Police: Hug Triggers Officer's Gun, Kills Woman

Top 5 Concealed Carry Handguns
BryanP replied to MikePapa1's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The particular model of gun isn't really relevant as long as it fits the role and is reliable. It could be black and white with the Wal Mart Great Value logo on the side for all I care. They all fall in to broad categories. Small Revolvers S&W J Frame / Ruger LCR / Taurus Small Frame / Charter Arms (I omit Colt Detective etc... as they aren't in production) Medium Revolvers S&W K/L Frame / Ruger SP101 / Taurus Compact Frame etc... Subcompact Semi Auto - .32 & .380 Kel Tec P32 & P3AT / Ruger LCP / S&W Bodyguard / Taurus equivalent I'm not googling right now Subcompact Single Stack Semi Auto - 9mm and up Kelt Tec PF9 / Ruger LC9 / S&W Shield / Kahr PM9 / Walther PPS <insert your favorite here> Subcompact Double Stack Semi Auto - 9mm and up Glock 26 etc ... I'm drawing a blank for the non Glock equivalents and don't have time to google at the moment, you get the idea Compact Double Stack Semi Auto - 9mm and up Ruger SR9c / Glock 19 / S&W M&P9C etc... These guns are probably 95%+ of concealed carry these days. Sure, there's a few guys out there who carry full sized 1911's, Hi Powers, and such, but I suspect they're a distinct minority. And yes, I know I'm leaving out someone's favorite. That's not the point. It's a matter of what you are comfortable carrying. Me, most of the time I'm carrying a Small Revolver*, sometimes a Subcompact Single Stack 9mm**, and if I ever get a chance to play with it at the range I may start carrying a Compact Double Stack 9mm***. Thing is, the model doesn't really matter. If my S&W 649 suddenly morphed into a Ruger LCR or a Taurus 85 I'd still be just as well armed. If my Ruger SR9c was replaced with a G19 by Mysterious Glock Elves, I really wouldn't worry about it. * S&W 649 J Frame ** Kahr PM9 *** Ruger SR9c -
You can get a Kel Tec Sub 2000 in 9mm that takes Beretta mags.

I used to own the original 995. I bought a 995TS and sold the original. Both were fun and accurate. Like everyone else, my only complaint is the 10 round mag capacity.

I don't think anybody can tell you much beyond that it's a modified Mannlicher Carcano 1891/38 carbine.

Looks like a Carcano carbine of some sort. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carcano_Rifle#Variants

So my "ball and chain" has the condition Crocodile feet
BryanP replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
You go posting pics like that and you're likely to get a foot condition too. HerFootInYourButtItis. -
This. If you want to carry, don't drink. If you want to drink, leave it at home. If you choose to drink and carry, that's on you when you get caught.

Impersonating an actively serving police officer or member of the military is illegal because doing so allows you to situationally exert authority over others. Telling someone you used to be a cop or in the military doesn't mean diddly beyond them possibly giving you respect you don't deserve. You might gain monetarily, but that again is what existing fraud laws are designed to deal with. I think people who falsely claim military service or honors are douchebags of the highest order, but I have to grudgingly agree with the Alvarez ruling.

Man allegedly draws gun on neighbor for passing gas
BryanP replied to mcurrier's topic in General Chat
A .32 is overreaction for someone farting. .25ACP might be more appropriate.
