  1. A day at the range trying as many rentals as possible sounds like it is in order. Did she like the 250? How about the compact or (don't know if this is out yet or not) the subcompact frame for the 250? My wife likes her 228 really well although she has been keeping an eye on my g26...
  2. Dobervol, I didn't pay close attention to the prices as I'm not in the market right now. The guy did read them to me and I remember thinking that they were in line. I try to buy from locally owned gun stores when I can but in the end all problems go back to the manufacturer anyway so if academy had it and the price was right I would probably pull the trigger. I think they had 2 regular 556's and one classic swat. At least that is what they looked like from across the counter. Sometimes the Sig designations can be a bit confusing on the 556. Mark
  3. Alpha, thanks. I hope I've located some locally. If it doesn't show up soon I will give midway a shot. Mark
  4. Coop, check out precision delta. They seem to have some pretty good bullet prices. I ordered a bunch of primers from Weidners because they were the first I found to have them. Then I found them locally. Even buying in bulk adding a $20 charge for hazardous materials shipping made a big difference. Buying locally skips the charge so you might want to see what you can find here first. Precision Delta Store Also, I bought a few different types of bullets locally in slightly smaller quantities. Although I assume I will primarily load 115 gr for 9mm plinking I figured I would try several different types and weights to see what I liked best. Then, I plan on buying larger quantities. Different weights are only a couple $$/1000 different in pricing so if I like 124 gr better it won't make that big of a difference in final loaded round prices. Some of the bullet mfrs offer better pricing on large quantities so if you are interested maybe we should see if we could split an order of several thousand... Mark
  5. Dobervol, I like how my 556 feels when folded but I've never tried to fire it that way. Maybe next weekend. I saw a couple of 556's at Academy in Cool Springs on Thursday. Mark
  6. I really hate it when the ref's make calls that directly affect the end of the game... Mark
  7. the first time I went in I kind of felt ignored at first. But, as soon as I asked a question they popped up and went to work. I find it refreshing to not get hounded by sales people. Now when I go in I ask my question immediately and get my answers.
  8. thanks tn_3. My long gun experience pretty much runs to shotguns until I got the 556. I'm still trying to get a handle on what to tear down when. thanks, Mark
  9. Bo, what is the max distance at this range? I can't seem to remember. Also, does Chuck have any experience with the Sig 556? it breaks down a little differently from the std AR and I could use a little guidance It's starting to look like I might be able to make this one. I will know soon. Mark
  10. That's where I picked mine up from. I started to build my bench the other day and got sidetracked putting decking for storage in the attic and then I had to use my new saw I got for Christmas to put some trim in the dining room so I haven't had a chance to do anything but clean some brass so far. I'm watching your scale thread to see what you end up with as I still need to get one. I think I'm leaning towards getting a cheaper scale for use with the pistol stuff. Next year, when I start loading precision rifle rounds I think I will get a good scale to make sure I am fine tuning my powder charge correctly. My reloading stuff is just sitting there calling out to me. But, we have a deal at the house: My wife gets me what I want & I use it to make stuff she wants so she gets to go to the head of the line for a few more days... I really need to find someone in the area that is already running a 550 and go watch for maybe an hour just to kind of see how things work. Mark
  11. thanks g-10... mark
  12. Brian Enos has a really good reputation and has a lot of good stuff on his site. Having said that, I like to buy local whenever possible. With the Dillon stuff there isn't much movement on pricing so other than taxes it doesn't hurt to buy locally. In addition, at least for me, the knowledge you can get from talking to a local vendor is usually well worth a small extra expense, especially when starting something like reloading. Just my little .02... Mark
  13. Well, I got my best friend and his family back in the same town as I am for the first time in about 20 years so that was way more than enough... But, since it was under the tree, the Dillon 550B and most everything to go with it sure didn't hurt my feelings. Off to put the tumbler together and get it shaking... Mark
  14. Steve, I will call Owl Creek today and see if he is going to open Saturday or Sunday unless you would prefer to shoot somewhere else?
  15. I can't believe I get to be first to ask this: Is this going to be a SHOTGUN wedding? I mean, it would be kind of appropriate (with regards to the forum of course...) congrats, Mark
  16. hmmm, I've been wanting to shoot one of these. Somehow I missed the LR scheduled event. Might have to see if I can free that weekend up. Mark
  17. 56 ford guy, thanks. Specific info is what I am looking for. Hey guys please keep the info and comments coming. All is going in to the old hopper for evaluation, Mark
  18. thanks for the info guys...
  19. the 40 and 45 are recent releases. Don't think either is available anywhere yet.
  20. thanks guys, I found a Galco one I like pretty well. For some reason they don't sell one for a 239 mag. I wonder if a 1911 or other single stack mag carrier would work?
  21. That sounds like a good idea. It would blend in with my junk for sure...
  22. they didn't a few weeks ago but I will keep checking. Thanks
  23. I need a few (2-3 at least) boxes. I haven't look really hard but have been keeping my eye peeled a bit. If someone sees any in and around the Nashville area please let me know. Also, not sure when the new 40 CD is going to ship but if anyone spots any I would like to know about it as well as I need to test fire a box or 2... thanks, Mark
  24. Well, St Nick is only a few days away so I have to get serious about planning the bench my 550b is going on. For now I'm planning on building a 2x4 frame with a 3/4 plywood top and a back to hold some small shelves to stack various pieces parts on. I'd hoped to store powder and primers on there but after thinking it out a bit I guess I need to build a small locking cabinet to keep them safe. No little ones around, just want to be prudent. Anyway, I'm trying to figure out the ideal height. I bought the metal stand to mount the press on and I think that adds 8" or so to the mix. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Mark
  25. Plenty of tools at the house. While it would be fun to build, and needs to happen, I'm hoping the range fairy comes by soon and sprinkle shooting dust (maybe a little unique, or tite group) in this thread so that we can go shoot and ooh and ahh over everyone's new toys. I will get a plan together and figure out what I am going to build really soon so that I can go get wood and what not... Mark
