  1. It looks like 65 south is now open (hopefully it will stay that way for a few more minutes) About an 1" accumulation so far in the middle of Nashville. Sent most of the staff home. I'm headed that way pretty soon. Dang customers won't quit calling...
  2. All you fighters, did the officer in the ditch have a gun? It sounds like both officers were on the same page and worked together. They both survived which is the most important thing. Next, I wouldn't want to die but I sure wouldn't want a dead baby on my mind either. Can you just see the outrage? That probably would have cost both officers their careers and possibly destroyed their lives. I do love the part about being arrested at the chicken house though... Mark
  3. Chip, I bet we could get some folks together to run up to G&L to shoot one evening if you would like. Mark
  4. Man, the end of that article kind of tugs at the strings...
  5. A few years back (at my last job) we had a policy of no guns at work. One day we fired a pretty crazy guy. My boss came in and asked me to bring my pistol in and keep it at my desk. He brought his in as well. We also had magnetic locks put on all if the exterior doors which came in handy a couple of days later. After that I never heard about the policy again. It helped that we were a smaller office away from the home office.
  6. Resistance is futile... you will be assimilated... congrats
  7. I agree that it is doubtful that there would be any organized attempt to boycott the restaurants that needed to be boycotted. If there was, would there be enough restaurants to serve the folks that attend? At least in the downtown area? My opposition to this is more because I think the convention center is a really bad idea at this time. It results in a huge liability for Davidson county and if it goes well only a relatively few businesses in the immediate downtown area will truly profit from it. Let some other city spend a billion $$ to be edgy... I do think that the NRA should act all interested for a while and then try to create some headlines about canceling due to the hostile attitude of the Nashville area. Maybe someone needs to send NRA HQ a copy of the article where the Convention and Visitors Bureau says the guns in restaurant law is hurting Nashville Businesses. In this particular case, they need to be right. Due to the current status of the law, it needs to hurt Nashville that the NRA won't come here. Mark

    Kroil oil

Most of the HVAC supply houses stock it. But you need a biz license to buy. I think Grainger might have a retail sales certificate and they used to stock it
  9. Notice how careful he is to not post where this will be? A smart young man right there...
  10. I think we should all show up with rifles and form an arch kind of like the Marines do with swords. Can you just see it outside of a courthouse? They would probably call out the National Guard. At least it would be memorable... Mark
  11. My first thought is Chris Peterson is going to get a call. But, I saw some kind of special on him this year. It looks like he has really settled into the Boise area. I like Cutcliffe but I think he would be a mistake. Wasn't Chavis fired? I can't imagine him forgetting that so soon. I'm thinking it is between Peterson and Skip Holtz. Kiffen just got a big raise and a lot easier coaching job.
  12. I like Zach Wamp personally. I've met him a few times and he is a pretty good guy (hold on...big BUT coming here) He voted for the bank bailout or the first stimulus package, don't remember which and they may be one and the same. Also, when he originally ran for congress he promised to leave after 2 terms. He let that one go by the way pretty quickly after he got elected. So, he is a no go for me unless it is him vs a dem. Then I guess I will hold my nose and vote.
  13. Man I wish I could figure out where you guys are getting all of this critical defense. It is basically nonexistent in Nashville... I agree with the others, break it in, clean it, break it in some more, clean it again then run several different types of SD ammo through it and see how it does. Mark
  14. More reloading type questions related to this. I got my Lyman manual out (only one I have so far). It doesn't have a 115 gr FMJ, just a JHP. It lists that length as 27.69 which is a bit shorter than the various FMJ stuff I have. Is there a definitive length for 115 FMJ? The critical defense 9mm that I have left is 27.08 Speer GD (if I remember it is 124 gr from speer) 28.12 My head is starting to spin and I haven't even put my press together yet... Mark
  15. I only have one batch of 9mm 115 gr to compare right now: Out of the five I checked 4 were 29.15 and (1) was 28.1. On the short one the brass appears to be just a tiny bit shorter. The WWB I have were all 29.10 I have some of their 125 gr gold dots that came out to 29.13 which was the same as some speer frangible I have. I also have some speer loaded gold dots which measure the same. for the 40 S&W: georgia arms canned heat: 29.12 GA gold dot:29.11 Hornady Tap: 29.13 So, at least for the ammo I have on hand, the 357 sig and 40 S&W are pretty consistent. The 9 shows some issues, at least on the ones I checked. I think I will check some more tomorrow when I have more time. This is interesting and I'm learning some stuff. This will help when I start loading my own in a few weeks. One other interesting thing: the GA 357 gold dot uses gold dot bullets and speer brass. It is visually identical to the speer gold dot. It also is 1/2 the price. Is there any chance that GA loads this for speer as a subcontractor? Mark
  16. They list what they can quick ship on the front page. Everything else seems to take 4-6 weeks except for 357 sig which may or may not ship. I've had really good luck with their .380, 9mm and 40. I have to admit though that I've never measured it. I think I have some 40 and 9mm here. I will measure it for the heck of it.
  17. It's been a few months but I think it was included with the doc the dealer got. I just had to remember to ask for it. But, I've slept since then
  18. hmmm... I wonder if I need to cut some gun ports in my 5th wheel? Current plan is to head over to my bosses land on the other side of town, He has about 150 acres of pretty defensible land with good running water etc. Planning on taking the camper to an area with kind of a cliff behind it and a long area to fire down into. Gun ports would mean I wouldn't have to go outside which means I could keep watching the satellite TV. Guess I need to think about it some more. mark
  19. [quote "under this part" is generally conceded to be any of the prohibited carry statues (I think). - OS Including in restaurants? If you just had it in a restaurant you could get charged but if you USED it in self defense you don't get charged? Mark
  20. Just got a 357 sig barrel for my 239 to go along with the one I have for my 229. Now, I just have to save up a bit more and get one for my 226. I love that round...
  21. Inside Waistband Holsters - Minotaur Holsters - products new home - Minotaur MTAC Holster Very comfy and as you add pistols you can get different sleeves for about $40. It is a good value and quick to ship
  22. CCI when I was there a few weeks back. Both small pistol and small rifle
  23. Sweet... Still trying to clear my schedule for this. Unfortunately it might come down to not knowing until a day or 2 before. My biggest confusion on the rifle is not knowing exactly what to do with the piston as far as lube goes. I need to do some more reading. I am so ready to go shoot I just can't stand it
  24. I wonder if they can send a list of the powders they stock? I'm so new at this I wouldn't know what to ask for w/o having my reloading manual in hand. If I can get a list I could look each powder up 1 at a time and see which is which. I picked up 5k primers there a couple of weeks ago. Just make sure you don't go during lunch... Mark
