Lot's of Nashville shooters here (Camera's I mean). We should have a photo outing sometime. Mark

Another in the Canon camp here. Current bodies are 20d, 5d, and MkIIn (2). Haven't gotten to use them much since I relocated to Nashville but hopefully this spring I will be back out in action again. My suggestions are buy what feels good in your hand but also if you have any friends or family invested in one particular system give that a lot of thought as glass can get really expensive so if you have friends or family shooting you can borrow things that they have. Also, there are lot's of good brands out there (I shot Pentax for 20 years) but if you stick with Canon or Nikon there are tons of places that rent high end lenses. That can be really nice when you want to take a nice lens or 2 on vacation but normally you don't need them. Or, if you are going to a once in a lifetime event you can rent good glass for that. Finally, don't hesitate to look at 3rd party lenses. I have several of the newer sigma lenses that I wouldn't trade for anything. My wife shoots sigma almost exclusively as she likes the colors she gets. Mark

PM replied to, thanks I did check in with reloaders and they have new in stock. I was just trying to save a few bucks by getting some lightly used. Thanks

If you are staying downtown I would like to suggest the Terra Nostra restaurant on the north shore. It is kind of pricey but the food is fantastic. It is a Tapas style restaurant. Also, if you like wine they usually have a great selection. Ask what they have that isn't on the menu as they buy weekly specials that are usually great. Mark

Looking for some once fired 22-250 brass. I looked high and low on the net a couple of days ago and found one site that had some. By the time I got my wallet and got back to the computer it was sold out. Anyone have a source? thanks, Mark

That is too freaking cool... It is interesting what the article says about dogs not perceiving heights. I know our lab almost jumped out of a 2nd story window after a squirrel she saw in the yard. We were looking out the window and I said "squirrel" which usually sent her in a tizzy. As soon as I said it she started jumping. I barely grabbed her collar in time. Didn't expect her to do that...

Maybe as bait for bobcats? (hope my wife doesn't see this one) Just not a cat guy... Mark

Well, I guess I am just blushing with ignorance. I never noticed the review link at the top of the page. Even after this thread started I didn't see how to find the link directly for a few minutes. I did follow the link in this thread to check it out then finally found the link on the main page. Very cool. I can't wait to get home and read some reviews... Mark

THis bears repeating: I've met Wamp a few times and was pretty jazzed when he first starting talking about running a couple of years ago. Then came the day he voted for the bailout. NO thanks... mark

anyone else wondering if anything fun happens in the suit? Might be rarer than the mile high club...

Is this a trick question? I protect my guns with: a gun... Hah! Couldn't resist...

Thanks, that's very nice of you to offer. Let me get a little further down the road for a few weeks to see what happens... I went on my first coyote hunt Saturday. Didn't see a darn thing but it was nice getting in the woods. Eventually though I'm going to want to make some progress... Mark

Schedule of Bills being considered 2/17/10
Mark A replied to waynesan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Sorry, I've had my eye off the ball the last few weeks being busy at work. Are we all behind HB1807 and contacting everyone or is it not time for that yet. Trying quickly to get back up to speed, Mark -
I thought the jack for the spitfire was to control a remote decoy. I need to read a bit more. The reason I would like to run it through a standard unit is so I can use the remote for that unit. If i understand it correctly I will have to start the MP3 player and just let it run. I can then turn it on and off by raising and lowering the volume on the speaker itself, through the remote. This is still in the planning and research stage. It may be easier to get a self contained unit and just use the std sounds that come with it. thanks for the help, Mark

101, I'm looking at various electronic callers but I think I want one that has an auxiliary input jack so I can run an mp3 player as the source. Any suggestions? Mark

I decided to give this coyote thing a try and bought the same Nikon scope this weekend. I didn't see anything Saturday or Sunday but the scope is really nice. I've been a shotgun and pistol guy most of my life so this rifle thing is a bit new to me. I can see where it could get addictive though... Mark

One of the talk radio hosts in Chattanooga went to war with the Free-Press over this kind of thing. He even tried to get them in trouble with a littering offense. I don't think much ever came of it but it was entertaining to listen to the lengths he went to. I would love to not get it either but it is just like junk mail; It never makes it into the house. I hate how wasteful that is but I'm not sending it out. I wonder how much gas and fuel we waste each year getting the stuff printed and delivered to the post office, then the post office delivers it to me, then I throw it in the trash where the trash company carries it to the dump... How do you carry with rail mounted light/laser?
Mark A replied to True Grit's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Blade-tech makes plenty of holsters to accommodate lights as do other holster makers. -
I'm in for a 2 or 3 day but would prefer the 3 day. Ammo is ready and waiting from a class i was going to take last year that got canceled. I could probably stretch into a 4th day if there was a pistol component added but the dynamic shotgun would really float my boat for the 3rd or 4th day if possible. Mark

+1 on the Kornered Cat sight. Lot's of good info there. You also might ask this in the ladies section and get some good info there. Although something is better than nothing I don't like the purse idea as they constantly get set down and sometimes forgotten. The smart carry actually works pretty well with scrubs and other sweat type clothing. I have a feeling your wife will end up with a couple of different options and rotate as the situation demands at that given moment. Mark

Vehicle carry options separate from your EDC rig?
Mark A replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Smith, what size gun to you keep in the versipack? I have one that I like a lot but even my 239 is a bit difficult to grab in a hurry. I just wish the concealed pouch was just a tad bigger. I also bought the larger version. It is plenty big enough for the 229 that I keep in there and is much easier to draw out. The rest of the bag is just a little too large to carry out and about though. I wish there was a size in between... I have a buddy that has 2 little boys. He bought a Patagonia sling type bag to carry a couple of diapers and basically just the minimum needed to go out for an hour or 2. I looked at it pretty hard and thought it would make a good man bag. It doesn't scream tactical at all and is much smaller than a regular backpack. Mark -
If you can bring it back it is a lot cheaper to rent as a local move. One way they usually get you for a lot more.
