Trying to make one gun fit a bunch of different roles is never easy. 22 or a soft shooting nine of at least medium size will help her get the basics down and enjoy shooting. Either will work to start for a home defense gun. Then after she shoots some she can make a more informed choice on a carry gun and the method of carry We rented a bunch of guns for my wife to try. She hated every revolver she shot. Hated Glocks. Tolerated my Sigs for a couple of years. She still keeps a sig on the nightstand though. We were at a class where Randy Lee (Apex) was one of the adjunct instructors. She tried his M&P 9 and ended up shooting the rest of the weekend with it. About 1/2 way through we were at lunch she told me to make sure she had one when we got back home. So, being the smart hubby I (rarely) am I did exactly that. While we were at the class we bought a bunch of goodies to stick in it from Randy. When I picked hers up there happened to be one for me there as well. After all, if I was going to be a good training partner I needed to have the same experience as she did. (I know you see what I did there...) Ended up learning to reload to keep her in ammo. That girl surely loves to pull the trigger. Have her look up the cornered cat site. Good info there. Finally, get her to sign up here and check out the women's section. If she isn't comfortable discussing in an open forum I will bet a few of the ladies will be willing to have email conversations with her. Have fun! Mark

Turkey Fryers ... Outdoor Oil/Propane vs Inside Electric
Mark A replied to xRUSTYx's topic in General Chat
I used to deep fry my birds. Good flavor, quick, frees up oven space. Then I tried a big easy cooker. Much easier to use, safer and I don't have to filter oil. The turkey fryer does a mean shrimp boil... -

I really want a 357 sig AR... SBR. What a house gun that would be. If it used sig 226 mags that would be a bonus. I could get behind M&P mags too...

Give it a good chemical cleaning and scrape any loose stuff then shoot it with a healthy layer of bed liner. If you plan all openings first the container would be about as waterproof as it gets. It would help insulate and soundproof from external noise as well... One of those buried 3/4 into the side of a hill would make an excellent root cellar/ workshop/ man cave... Mark

Haven't read any of the comics... Waiting for the scene where the governors wife and kid are zombies being kept alive in a tank while the scientist looks for a way to cure them...

So it is a female version?

Dave, I totally understand and agree. My carrying at a customer location is completely dependent on knowing the customer. If I am not sure or don't know their views I unstrap before I go in. This particular guy I've known for years and have gone shooting with him many times. The result of that particular event is that I don't use the mag carrier currently. One of these days I will get around to figuring out a solution in keeping the mag in place. Mark

Inside weak leg with a Galco ankle glove. Added the calf strap. It really works well. I've been carrying a g33 in it for about 3 years. I also bought one of Galco's ankle accessory bands for the other ankle. I carry a spare mag in it. It doesn't work as well as I would like as the mag has a tendency to work itself out. I need to put a Velcro loop over the top to help secure it. I had one of our manufacturing reps with me one day making some customer calls. As we approached one of my customers the mag worked free and skidded across the floor. My customer grinned, picked it up and made me show him my rig. My rep (from Boston area) looked like he had swallowed something really sour. He was mortified. My customer told him to get over it as that was how we rolled in the south... He got a discount on his next order from me. Mark

Finally made it to the range with my G32 (357 sig)

Big fan of 357sig. Among many other things I like how reliably it feeds... Mark -
Beretta gets my vote. The 92 reminds me of the Cadillacs my grandfather drove when I was but a young lad. Well made and so damn comfortable you could drive it all day. Mark

Seems to me there is a life rule about self sufficient women and the kind of guys they end up with. A strong, self sufficient woman will end up with a strong man who will act like a man and do manly things. A self sufficient woman is secure enough to let the man do manly things and realize it doesn't diminish her in the least. Women brought up to be dependent end up with POS men who like to use them for punching bags or girlie men who wouldn't know what to do with a hammer if it hit them in the face. Funny how life works that way. Mark

I wonder if that is different when the Falcons play. The NFL is big on no weapons and I seem to remember folks getting searched pretty thoroughly at the Titans games...

Nashville needs a mayor that can become a conservative governor... They can't build office space fast enough in the Cool Springs area while tons of office space stands empty downtown. But, there will be a shiny new convention center... Davidson County just passed a really large property tax increase. Empty office space, the debt incurred by the building of the convention center and higher taxes are all tied together for everyone except the mayor and the city council.

Was one of those young firebrand Republican governors being touted as the future of conservatism? Mark

Let's see, they have strict gun laws now, but...
Mark A replied to E4 No More's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I take exception with this. Apparently by spending millions of dollars and thousands of officer hours each year they are able to protect the mayor... Easy to be antigun when you have a protection bubble that is armed to the teeth... -
Well, it just happens to be that I am going to be in the tri-cities area before I head back down to Knoxville. I might just have to make a stop or 2 for dinner. Peejman, I stopped calling on the TVA coal plant up there about 5 years ago. For some reason I always liked Rogersville. It seems like a neat little town. Mark

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. I actually like Famous Daves for catering but my preference is to use a local place if possible. I think I will contact a few and see what they have an keep Dave's in my pocket in case none of the rest of them work out. Thanks again. I just popped some popcorn and sat down so please start fighting. Mark

Shootrite Firearms Academy Defensive Handgun Class AAR
Mark A replied to timcar86's topic in Training Discussions
Tiger is one of those guys that communicates a ton with few words. I tend to take a LOT of notes in his classes... Like much in life triggers are different for different people. I prefer a traditional DA/SA but that is what I've practiced and trained the most with. I was in a different part of Alabama this weekend doing a carbine course. I agree as to the heat. Even the rocks were looking for shade... Glad you had a good time, mark
