  1. Who knew we married sisters...   I am a Tn fan but the game looked good so I started watching it. My wife had already given up (too much of a fair weather fan) and was in a different part of the house.   I had the game on in the office where I was building the lower and didn't tell her that the dogs were catching up. She came in right after they took the lead and suddenly she was a die hard fan again. She sat there for the last 2 minutes and watched the miracle catch and got depressed again.   I of course took the opportunity to tell her that she was bad luck and that the only reason the dogs lost was because she started watching again.   good times...
  2. Thanks Mac. I guess that means I need to find something else to send to them to make pretty.   I have an old beater Sig 229 that just might need some love.   Mark.
  3.   Yep, my plan was to order a little at a time and spread the cost out over several months. Then, when we actually got the email saying we could order it was like I got buck fever. Now I have everything to build his and hers pistols sitting in my office. Started getting questions about why I had 2 of all these parts laying around so I had to go put it all away.   Out of sight out of mind you know...   Man I hope we get these soon... CCR is having a sale on cera-hide until the end of this month. I would love to save 25%   Mark
  4. I finished my first lower. I know that untold millions have done so but it is still a first for me. It might have gone a little faster if I hadn't kept being distracted by the Georgia - Auburn game.   Every time I launched a spring I looked over at the clear quilt storage bag I had to control that and decided that I really didn't need it as I wouldn't let that happen again...   Oh well, at least I found the spring every time.   Built a Spike's blem lower I got from Aim supply. I was so pumped about building the TGO lower that I just couldn't wait. Originally I was going to build this one for practice and do something with it later but then swmbo mentioned that she might like a carbine soon so the plan came together. I have a BCM upper headed my way and It will go under the Christmas tree sometime Christmas eve.   This actually worked out well as I wanted to take my time on the TGO lower and get it coated with a cera-kote and now I don't have to cram that in before Christmas.   I read a lot of threads and watched several videos that folks here posted and everything was very helpful so thanks...   Mark
  5.   exactly...
  6. One Second After sucked me in, chewed me up and spit me out... It really paints a bleak picture and makes you think. Btw, the latest Joe Nobody book was just released for kindle
  7. These are the class acts that had the crime scene pics up on a billboard on their property?
  8. Funny... my boss has removed a couple with his LCP...
  9. And don't forget November 3rd is Sunday. and time change day. Wouldn't it suck if you were all ready and scheduled to go riot and you got there an hour late?
  10. and looks for the easiest target when doing so.
  11. You mean you don't mix all the remnants together and then tell all your buddies about the "for special forces only" powder you ran across? Oops...
  12. Over the last few days I've had various pieces/parts that will be used to build my TGO-15's start showing up at work. I much prefer having them signed for instead of just sitting on my front porch.   Over the last couple of days I've had several guys ask what the stuff was for. Their reaction was universally: you can build that and order your own parts?   Me: Yup...   Today 2 different co-workers asked me for suggestions on what to buy and where to buy it. I gave both of them lists of parts to make fairly decent carbines. One ordered all of it over lunch and the other ordered about 1/2 of it saying he would spread it out over a couple of months.   One of the guys will go shoot with me once or twice a year and the other never expressed any interest at all. But, they are both mechanical geeks and the idea of building and learning is very intriguing to them.   The funny thing is that the one guy who ordered everything today may actually have all of his stuff before I get mine so he may get to be the guinea pig.   Mark
  13. That is pretty cool looking
  14. I keep seeing this thread pop up so I finally gave in today and swung by the Franklin location. Same view as 10 months ago. If you wanted to fight a war with 30.06 you would be in good shape... Mark
  15. Thanks for the replies. I did have the up and down part scribed but I made an assumption ( there is that word again ) on the front to back part. Anyone wanna guess that I am probably .040 off??? Oh well, off it comes again in the morning. I take solace in the fact that for every dumb question I ask and every mistake I make there is at least one TGO'er that will learn from that for their upcoming builds. Tis a good thing I got over being embarrassed a long time ago... Mark
  16. Installing a low profile gas block on my M&P 10 to facilitate the rail I want. I've never installed one before but so far it seems pretty straight forward. My question is in lining up the hole in the barrel and the hole in the gas block. It appears that every thing is straight up and down. But of course I can't see it and I hate to take some things on faith. Is there some kind of test?   Is the worst thing that will happen if mis-aligned that the action won't cycle?   thanks, Mark
  17.   POW!!!     I'm off to buy moly grease. I am almost done rebuilding my M&P 10. It has been a good learning experience and has me almost ready for building the TGO carbines...   Mark

    Cancer

I think it can be chalked up to much better imaging and detection methods. Also, I think there is more understanding now about various types of cancer.   I think many people died in the past of cancer but were listed as a natural death. It was just "their time"   I'm not going to argue that it is big biz... I just think we know a lot more about it now.     My wife is now on year 2 of surviving her cancer. We were extremely lucky. the type of cancer she had doesn't present many or any symptoms. She is one of those who could have gone years w/o knowing anything was wrong, go to the doctor and find out she had weeks to live. My wife went into surgery for a relatively rare issue. When the surgeon opened her up he noticed something didn't look right. He probed a little and found an extremely small tumor. He ended up opening her up more than expected and found another small spot which turned out to be a second tumor. He basically had to pull all of her organs out and go through them bit by bit. A 2 hour surgery ended up taking about 6.5 hours and it was a very nerve racking time.   The surgeon and his team, and the oncologist that dropped everything on a Saturday to come in and consult did a fantastic job. If they had not cared or gone the extra mile she probably would have been dead in a year or so.   That was a horrible conversation to have with a wife waking up in a lot of pain.   The astonishing thing is the "retail" price of the medicine she has to take. the full on rate is $7,500 per month. They actually have foundations set up to assist people in purchasing it. We were fortunate that her insurance is part of a very large group and has so far been able to absorb the majority of the cost. If that changes we will face that at that time.   The drug makes her sick at times and makes her bones hurt a bunch. However, she is as cancer free as can be determined and her prognosis is another 50 years of life. Her family all lives into their 90's...   Mark
  19. The issue was anything with a quantity of 2 was getting kicked out. it is fixed and my order is placed.   Very responsive on their part and nice guys on the phone.   Mark     ETA: they said their server traffic was way up...
  20. Me either...   I just called. I think it is not letting something "back ordered" get checked out.   I've called and their web guy is at lunch and will address it in an hour or so when he gets back.   In the meantime, how long before we crash their phone system?
  21. FNEG, the real answer is some of us have been around long enough to have started preparing back in 94. Many more woke up after the shortage in 08. That was when I really kicked it into high gear. I began reloading and buying as much ammo as I could. I went from eating out everyday during lunch to brown bagging it every day. All that savings went into purchasing components or ammo.   I did get a bit caught off guard by the 22 thing. I'd slowed down on shooting 22 and let me stock get a little low. The short term end result for me is that I shut 22 shooting down completely. Not optimal but I decided to preserve what I had. My head is on a swivel every time I am in the fun store. I will replenish up to what I need to get through most anything.   I'm not preaching even a little bit here. I have friends that got caught out in 08 and they didn't stock up for this event. Now I am shooting and they are not   Have fun with the wife and kiddos, Mark
  22. Was she wearing a Shemagh?   I'm curious as to why she was so scary. Something had to be scary for her to get shot just for getting out of her car. I understand that she'd been running and all that. Maybe she had something in her hand that was confused for a gun.             Anyone notice how quick they were to say no terrorist threat? I'm wondering if the race of the victim had anything to do with that?   Mark
  23. OK, lower parts kits ordered. On to the next things...   I've been looking at Bravo Companies website just to see what they had. All of their short barrel stuff indicated NFA which makes sense on the surface.   But, how do you order a short barrel for an AR pistol? Do they have a form you fill out promising to be a good boy?     Thanks again (and about a million more times in the future if I forget...)   Mark
  24. Thanks to everyone for the info so far...   Not going to do A2 sight..   This is a classic case of not knowing what I didn't know: I obviously didn't know I was creating this in the reloading forum... Meant to do it in the long guns forum although even that would probably have been technically wrong...
  25. I am in the process of converting my new M&P 10 into as close a replica to my VTAC M&P 15 as I can. I've been shooting for around 45 years and own several different carbines but when I got that VTAC last year for my birthday it was like I'd been waiting all my life for that one rifle.   So, new trigger and stock and rail etc... I'm close to being done but I keep running into little things like crush washers... Turns out that after I figured out I needed one, no one that I could find had one in stock Sunday afternoon.   So, off to the net to pay $8.00 in shipping for a $2.00 washer. And yes, I bought several for both rifles.   I guess I could possibly minimize the frustration by trying to do advanced research but where is the fun in that?   I know it is crazy but I seem to learn better when I just dive in. I've never been hesitant to take something apart. Most of the times things go back together and every now and then I even end up with all the parts being re-used.   I'm hoping that this knowledge will be useful when I get to build my TGO-15's.     And speaking of that, I'm still on the fence about building the uppers. I don't have any experience in setting head space etc. Is there a book that is the consensus best book on how to build an AR? I think, in spite of my usually preferred method of just "diving in" that I should do some actual research into the task to see the skills needed and more importantly any specialty tools required.   Any suggestions are welcome.   In the meantime this is a lot of fun interspersed with brief moments of frustration due to ignorance.   thanks, mark
