surprised it doesn't happen more often.

Did you see the tail end? Straight up or V? Air Force or Navy markings?

CaleR, just curious. Can you wear battery operated watches? A long time ago I worked for an old man in Texas who could reliably witch for water. He couldn't wear battery operated watches as they would go dead in just a few days. Craziest thing I've ever saw. Mark

Well... I just finished paying for mine. Right at 300' and with the pump and everything I was just a bit under 11k. More than I'd hoped to pay but in the end it is what it is. First place I called was an outfit just south of Columbia. They told me to go ahead and get on the list and they would see me in about 3 1/2 months. Next couple never returned my call. Read about Henry drilling here on the forum and used them. Nice folks. Took a few weeks but they came out and got it done. My well is a slow producer so before we build up there I'm going to have to put in a good sized storage tank. The numbers to get city water to our property were a lot higher and I didn't want on city water anyway so... Mark

sweet... I'm always curious about folks that are serving and I know nothing about air force insignia. What is his current career path and what does he think he will be doing long term? Thanks, Mark

glad they took care of you. Good customer service is almost always cheaper than bad customer service. It amazes me how many companies don't get that...

I like to shoot one of my .223 carbines to start out and then switch to a Vanguard in 22-250 when it starts to reach out a bit. I have a few friends that are really into shooting prairie dogs. A couple of them have built "oh my gosh" expensive rifles in 338 lapua but they are way better than I am. They really like to shoot at 1,000 and beyond. I am no where good enough to shoot even near that distance.. Most of the guys that I know that shoot a lot carry 3-4 rifles to keep the heat out of the barrel. Me, I can't really afford that so I just shoot slower. Mark

We've been picking cherry tomatoes for a few weeks. We have a couple beefsteak type maters that are getting close. Tons of Roma's ready in about 2 more weeks. My pepper plants are all small so far this year. I do have one beautiful habanero ready to pick... We bought a couple Meyer lemon trees that we are keeping in containers. They have some lemons popping out. We are also trying to container a couple of Avacado trees. One is doing ok. The other I'm trying my hardest to kill, apparently.

Today is national field day so there should be an event near you. Good chance to meet some folks and get some advice/ see equipment.

300 Blackout Suppressor SSS you need to get 80% of the local population to pretty much break even on keeping the population from growing. Good luck

I can see it now (random redneck guy headed to the beach): Honey, does this body armor and AR make my butt look big? No dear but the thong speedo isn't helping any... Then we will get a whole series of posts about how to keep sand out of the BCG...

I don't know if it was this storm or not but we had a bunch of unexplained crazy electrical issues all across our various automation networks the last few days. We've been through storms before and not had any issues so it is most likely coincidence. We had a ton of controllers that were down for no reason yesterday. We came in early this morning to start sending reboot commands out and about 95% of the problems vanished over night. strange...

I love it! I had a off road trailer made from the back 1/2 of a CJ 5 that I drug all over tellico etc... The only thing I didn't like about it at first was the axle was a bit narrower than what ended up on the YJ but a plasma cutter and welder soon fixed that. Having the wheels on the trailer track exactly where the jeep went reduced the amount of times the trailer got hung up. It looks like you have really thought it out. Some small things I changed on mine over time: I put a full 7 bladed hook up on it. That let it match what I had on my tow vehicle in case I wanted to pull it around town. The 7 blade also gave me a charging circuit back to the trailer and allowed me to mount a couple of fog lights on the back for seeing at night when backing up. I put a 3 way rocker on those lights so I could use them when we were setting up camp or if we were working on a broken down jeep out on the trail. I also put a couple of really small rock runner lights on the side of the frame pointing out and down at about a 45* to illuminate the trail when running at night. I don't think you overdid the pintle at all. I had a couple of friends who rednecked their off road trailers and both of them pulled their pintle right off the frame on harder trails. It is a real Bi*** trying to get a trailer with a damaged hitch out of the woods. Seems like I remember you already did a solar project or 2 so you probably have a good idea of what you need. I use 2 of these on my spare batteries:http://www.amazon.com/Sunforce-7-Amp-Charge-Controller/dp/B0006JO0XI/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1435186567&sr=8-7&keywords=sunforce One of them is hooked up to the charging system of the tow vehicle and the other has a quick disconnect to plug into a solar panel. That way I can use either as a charging source and I don't worry about the battery getting overcharged. I can't wait to see the end result, Mark

I added that to my inbox, thanks

I'm a slacker for not updating in this thread. I didn't think I would like the The Perseid Collapse by Steven Konkoly (I think that is right) but it turned out to be pretty good. They also have a bunch of other writers developing stories that are complimentary to the books in the Amazon World program. 1 or 2 of these weren't great but most of them were pretty good and they are pretty cheap. In some cases the story lines filled in backstories of characters that were not main characters in the books. In other cases the stories covered things that happened that were not in the book at all. Several of these really added to the overall vision of the books. Mark

Have you shown pictures of this before? The second I saw the picture I thought "Spots". This was before I saw who the poster was... I like it. Mark

I need to build an AR upper in 300 blk but haven't put the funds to the side yet. This would be a perfect option for the farm... I sense an unplanned purchase in my very near future... I'm not going to have time to develop any loads until late fall. Anyone have a suggestion for some decent factory subsonic loads? Mark

I was fretful that it took forever this spring to get our gutters installed and a pad poured for our rain tank. We finally got it set a couple weeks back and it took about 2 days to fill up 1,500 gallons. I can totally see adding a couple more tanks in parallel to prep for a dry summer. The new well we dug is going to be a slow performer so storage is going to be key for everything up there. I'd already planned for about 3,000 gallons of buried tank when we built the house. Was going to store grey water in it for the garden. I may have to expand that thought so we can water both livestock and the garden and not have to depend on the well for that purpose. I wish I knew how to calculate how much water we are going to typically use... In the meantime, I have one more round of tomato starts and pepper starts to get into the ground. The plants are starting to get yellow on the leaves. I may have to pull them inside this week. Oh well, too much is better than too little I guess... Mark

That's what it's all about isn't it? Keeping momma happy, not the hero part. My wife is a good partner but gives me the stink eye every now and then. So far we've ended up using all most everything at one time or another. The best was when I was out of town and the water main near our house broke. They said it was going to take 14-16 hours to fix. She knew about the (4) 5 gallon buckets I had in the garage. I talked her through how to use it for flushing etc. She was glad to have water at that point. I decided to come on home arriving about 7:30. She was fretful about having to go to work the next day w/o a bath. I went into the crawl space (pretty limited in storage space in the current house) and got enough pails out to fill the tub up. Heated some water on the stove and she was in business. I get a LOT less stink eye now It's all about being a hero.

Can you imagine the video footage? Scummy pulls on Jerry. Jerry reaches in his pocket, shoots scummy 5-6 times, puts the gun back in his pocket holster and catches the guy before he hits the ground... freaky fast. Mark

I don't deal with the TWRA much but I wonder if you showed them video evidence from a couple of different days if that would help get your permit. Mark

The kennels are 10 x 10 each. The tomatoes and peppers are planted on 1' spacing and every 2 rows there is a 2' path where we can kneel down and weed. That way we only have to reach up to 2' away. The apple trees are all seeds. They are in a sandy soil that will allow me to pull them if they grow. Right now the seedlings are just a few inches apart. If any of them take I will move them to a grow bed for a year and those that survive that will get stuck in the dirt. It is mostly an experiment just to see if I can get them to grow at all. If they do make it to dirt they will go in an area that will be grazed by a few pigs. These apples are not for harvesting for us, but rather to fall and hit the ground and be consumed by porkers... Wifey wanted a cutting flower garden. Everything she planted (except for some sunflower seeds I snuck in) are perennials. I'm hoping that we get some decent harvests but mostly this is to learn about our dirt and what will and won't grow there. When we move up there full time in a couple of years I will then be able to plant a lot more... Mark

Well, we erected and planted inside the 2 dog kennels this past weekend. One is full of wildflower seeds and about 20 apple tree seeds (those are an experiment). The other has about 45 tomato plants and 30 pepper plants. I have another 70 tomato starts that are getting close along with 20 ghost pepper plants. I'm going to till a 3rd area for those and try an electric fence scheme I saw on a forum. If this way of fencing works I will expand it as it is relatively cheap... Mark

A zeer pot might buy you some time in all but the hottest months. At that point a mountain stream would be nice to have. I'm guessing your best option is going to be continuing advances in medical technology I'm sure other options can be found in a pinch. Having a jug or 2 of compressed anything but especially refrigerant would be helpful
