  1. Doe with a fawn, 2 for 1 opportunity.
  2. What a monster. I'd love a chance to hunt deer like this year in and year out on private property. I got to get a lottery ticket tomorrow.
  3. I had a classmate in high school that shot another classmate with a 12ga slug. It was just minutes after daylight started to creep in and the shooter heard rustling and saw an outline. Boom. Thank God the idiot was a piss poor shot and only winged him. Regardless of spooking deer, I have always used a flashlight in the dark since this incident. I simply can't understand shooting at movement. Accident or not, these folks need to have their hunting rights revoked.
  4. clutepc, The movement cycles have been tough. The deer were up moving between 1pm and 3pm today and then didn't move again until after dark. The full moon the first weekend of season had them moving all night and mid day. They moved well on Monday and Tuesday evening, and then moved good in the morning, between daylight and 9am the rest of the week. This weekend was back to poor feeding times not near dawn and dusk. Things should be good Tuesday through Thursday in the mornings if the weather cooperates. I saw a lot of deer today, but I saw all of them between 1 and 3pm. Saw 4 different groups of deer with 3-5 deer per group. Problem was that I was moving stands while the deer were feeding. I had a buddy to help so I took advantage of the help and worked instead of hunting. I sat on a field from 4pm till dark and didn't see a single deer.
  5. Congrats Mike! Glad you got a buck with your bow.
  6. I wish every hunter was ethical. I wish every driver on the road was polite too. Not much chance of either of my wishes coming true. Sounds like you are stuck with the guy. I would be polite, but I would let him know often that ethical hunting was important to you and your family and that you think it helps the image of our sport. Maybe next time a deer steps out he will remember your words. I believe that bad hunters are more likely to take questionable shots. Because their hunting skills are inept, they see fewer deer and when they do see one, they feel they have to shoot no matter the conditions. They never get the chance to just sit and watch deer within range without shooting. I do understand wanting to take a deer. I didn't shoot one last year because I let many walk by waiting for a big buck. Today I was tempted to shoot a young 7 pointer that has taunted me the past 3 days. Needless to say he didn't get shot. Instead I got to watch him eat, interact with a smaller buck and alert to a coyote. I believe this is a progression for hunters and some of them, like your buddy, never get there.
  7. You are correct. You should be upset and you should inform him that he is an a$$ for being less ethical. Maybe all it will take is calling him on it.
  8. Not to rub it in, but I sat from 1:30pm till 7pm today. The weather was beautiful. There was a light breeze in my face. Squirrels and chipmunks were everywhere and I got to see six deer, two 6 point bucks. Well, ok, I guess I am rubbing it in a little. Quit work and go hunting. Obama will take care of the rest. Actually I was lucky enough to be able to take a couple vacation days for Monday and Tuesday to hunt. I hope your permissions work out and you get in the woods soon. It does set the mind back to even.
  9. Congratulations! Nothing like bow hunting.
  10. Congratulations Rob! Nothing like the rush of taking a deer with a bow. You are going to have to get me started in traditional archery. That sounds so like so much fun.
  11. I stayed in the stand from 6am to 11:30am Sunday morning. I had deer come through before I could see and again at 9:15am. No shooters. I thought I was going to get a turkey but they turned just before they got to my shooting lane. Going to hunt the afternoon and evening tomorrow. There is a major feed time from 2:30-4:30pm. I am going to sit from 2pm till dark.
  12. Not the best day in terms of seeing deer, but still a beautiful morning to be in the woods. I did see two does with fawns and a 1 1/2 old spike. They ate all night with the full moon and I saw deer leaving feeding areas for bedding areas at 4am while driving to my lease. The deer moved again around 9:30am and that is when I saw deer. I didn't hunt this afternoon, but I plan to hunt from daylight to noon tomorrow.
  13. I have been "whiskey" on gun boards since the beginning days of GlockTalk. I was in the army at the time and being as my last name is Williams, "whiskey" was my informal radio call sign. As the internet grew and the popularity of forums such as this grew, I have had to adapt plain "whiskey" to "whiskey101" at times when "whiskey" was already taken. Wow, I have been on internet gun forums for over 16 years. Still learning.
  14. Well if any deer get in the way of your coyote hunting, you just let me know. I don't mind wasting my time up a tree. Honestly, I just like the taste of deer better than coyote. Someone has to devote their efforts to killing those filthy coyotes.
  15. The full moon phase probably won't help things this weekend, but hopefully the front that is moving through will. Good luck bear hunting. I ate some black bear years ago when I lived in Alaska. It wasn't bad. I had it as a candied ham and I had it in chili with caribou. It was a little trough, but tasted good.
  16. Anyone else going to be sitting in a tree or blind at daylight Saturday? I have Monday and Tuesday off work so I plan to hunt 4 days straight. Looking for a nice buck, but not going to pass a fat doe standing broadside either. Good luck and remember to be safe.
  17. Be careful which one you choose. If it contains ground or whole grains (corn, wheat, acorns) than it can be considered baiting. I am pretty sure that C'mere deer has corn in it, I could be wrong though. The game warden told me that as long as it dissolved into the ground that I should be ok. So I buy the liquid stuff. It has attracted deer for me, but with varying results.
  18. Not sure which end of Nashville you are on, but the Montgomery County shooting complex is nice and ML friendly.
  19. Well it is a PITA. So much so that I don't bother with it either. My hunting partner is a game warden on Ft. Campbell so I get to hear about any good deer killed out there. The system of calling in can be frustrating. You can't really scout and expect to the get the places you scouted. It's more like a hope and prayer that you get an area with deer and that you can get on them with little prep. I like to be more methodical than that. Probably a waste of time to attempt to hunt hogs there. You would have better luck at the officers club on Friday night.
  20. I need to add that this feeder is on a part of the property will not be hunted until the youth hunt at the end of October. Didn't want anyone scolding me for leaving my feeder out when bow season starts in less than 10 days.
  21. Got over 250 pics this week since adjusting the settings to HIGH sensitivity and moving to another feeder. Here are some samples. The nice part was that I did not get a lot of pictures of nothing like I did with my old Remington camera. Oh yeah, there were a couple of these two. I was hoping they wouldn't find it.
  22. I forgot I downloaded these first pictures. I had the camera set to 3mp, and to take 2 pictures, back to back, every minute.
  23. THE LAWS ARE GRAY! They are gray on purpose. It allows the officer to use discretion. The problem is the decision making varies from officer to officer. I have had two officers from the same county give me opposite answers to the same question. I think it's better to be safe than sorry. I won't use any that I am not sure are legal. I use the Jak Hammer SST too. It's been a good head for me.
  24. Sounds like you are on track. Give it a practice run and let us know how it went.
