  1. I saw three cars hydroplane off the interstate this morning. Well, not witnessed them like you, but saw the recently happened wrecks. That looks like a pretty bad one, hopefully the folks are ok.
  2. OK, guns are ready to hunt...
  3. I got a report from a hunting buddy today, he saw a hen laying down for a big boss gobbler. I can't believe hens are ready to breed already! He also saw about 10 good gobblers in total. I don't think I am going to make it till April....
  4. I saw a gobbler in full strut yesterday morning. A few warm days should start busting up these big flocks and get them fired up.
  5. I'd go with a ground blind over a tree stand. 6 acres is plenty, so long as you got turkey near. You can call a tom to you, that is the old fashioned way, and it still works. Run and Gun is more versatile and the way I like to hunt. But if I had 6 acres, I would try to pattern any crossing birds or find out where the birds are nearby, and call to them to convince them to head your way. May work, may not work. You just have to get out there and give it a go for a couple days.
  6. Usually a jake's gobble is actually an attempt at a gobble. Often it ends in more of a yelp like sound. It is broken and slower than a mature gobble too.
  7. I believe I am on the verge of having a real problem. I may already be "uncontrollably obsessed" with turkey hunting. It started last week when I ordered a Cody slate call and it went over the edge today when I bought one of these...
  8. Met the folks at Bellshire today. Nice folks and very helpful. I have a transfer headed his way.
  9. WD, 205 was the number JG called breathing heavy over. He was in shock. I have never seen 200 turkey in one flock, but I am going to see them Saturday, if they show up.
  10. If you need a shooter, my .243 is ready. If not, I'd be up for getting a beer anytime.
  11. Don't worry. Help is here. You and I are going to set up a blind tall enough to hide our comfortable chairs, then we are going to make a thermos of coffee and a couple sausage biscuits, then I am going to call you up a bird so you can shoot his face off. All the while you are sitting in a comfy chair, sipping hot coffee. Now does turkey hunting sound so bad? We don't even have to get up early if you don't want to. 9am is as good as 6am, unless you just love listening to them gobblers.
  12. Yessssss! I am going to do my best to be down there on Saturday. I checked the website this morning to see when the puppies were going to be available for photo opportunities.
  13. Look out Troll! They are coming right for you!!!! How remote is this farm? Do they make a wounded calf call for the electronic predator call? Seriously, I would hesitate shooting dogs unless they were attacking the cows.
  14. I am an equal opportunity shooter. That does actually make me feel better. I thought all those guys were staring at me cause I looked fat in my bike shorts. Now I know they were just admiring my package!!!
  15. Please send this announcement to everyone you know and ask them to support our requested changes.
  16. I am not sure what is going on at Rotary Park, but something is weird there. Since I live in Sango, I like to use Rotary for mountain biking in the dry season and i like to walk my dogs on the trails there. However, there are a lot of "trolling" going on there. I don't know if it's drug deals or gay sex hookups. I often see a single male pull up and park. They don't get out, they just sit there and later another single male pulls up and parks nearby. I don't hang out to see what all happens, but it seems to happen every time I am there. Either way, I want a gun on my hip.
  17. You guys are just trying to get me to buy a varmint gun. Then I will be hooked on another hunting drug.
  18. Not what I wanted, but a small vicotry for me. I walk my dogs and mountain bike in Rotary Park and it is a place I carry. Now I am legal.
  19. Here is an article from the local liar. Ban lifted, handguns still prohibited at many parks | theleafchronicle.com | The Leaf Chronicle Attn Clarksville residents... These 3 need to go! They are not reps of my district.
  20. The city council voted to allow carry in certain parks last night. Anyone have more information or links to which parks are and are not allowed?
  21. Here is my H001, well, atleast it used to be mine. Now I only get to shoot it when my daughter isn't with me. That's ok, cause she is a helluva shot with it. She busted this squirrel right in the ear at 30 yards last weekend. I put an old Weaver D4 7/8" scope on mine and it fits the little Henry perfectly. It's not the brightest optics or the best field of view, but the crosshairs are super thin and it works great at squirrel hunting ranges. Mine will shoot one ragged hole groups at 25 yards all day long with Winchester 333 bulk ammo. Before I decided to scope it, I upgraded the iron sights. I replaced the rear buckhorn with a Williams sight and a U notch blade. The U notch blade fit the upgraded "metal" front white dot sight well. It was fun to shoot, but I wanted to hunt with it and I need a scope for hunting. Here is some more info and pics After trying the Williams Fool Proof on my H001 and finding that the factory sight was too short and that there was no easy solution to replacing it I starting looking for other options. I wanted something that did not require any drilling, tapping or machining. I ended up going with a Williams WDOS dovetail base to replace the factory rear buckhorn sight. The base comes without a sight blade so that you can choose the blade to suite you best. Williams has blades in various notch configurations. I went with the 3/16†“U†notch to mate with the white dot front sight. The factory white dot front sight is the metal replacement from Henry ($10.00) and, to me, is better than the supplied plastic sight. There is a 3/16 “U†notch that goes with the WDOS base, but when I ordered this from midway I actually got a 3/16†“U†notch blade and base to fit a Williams WGOS which is a little different but I just removed the base and used the blade. If you are using the factory plastic sight you may want to order the square notch blade. There are also ghost ring and fiber optic options. In either case I recommend the 3/16†height unless you have your factory sights elevated very high to get zeroed. I am using the 3/16†blade and have the base nearly bottomed out. It is nice to me because it that way the sight is as low to the gun as possible and less likely to snag on things.
  22. MO is where I hunt out of state. Fees are reasonable. Lots of big deer and plenty of public land. There aren't too many crazy laws, except if you kill a trophy you need to get a MO taxidermist because TN doesn't allow you to bring the skull or spine from MO back to TN because of CDW. We stay here South Fork Resort at Mark Twain Lake and hunt the Army Corp of Engineer land around Mark Twain Lake. Check out some of the pics on that website.
  23. OK, so I watched a second episode of this show. It is complete junk. It may be the worst thing I have seen since "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy".
  24. I have hunted with guys that throw hogs like that, but I ain't that crazy.
  25. These guys were definitely eat up with it too. I have been on hog hunts with dogs and it is exciting, but they just didn't know what they were doing. I guess it could be considered cruel, but more often the dogs and hunters get their full dose of cruelty back from the hog. Hog dogging is an addictive adrenaline rush that isn't like much else you can do in the states. Maybe black bear wrestling would top it.
