  1. I take a tablespoon of permanone every morning with breakfast. It seems to help, but causes some twitching. TWITCH, TWITCH. On a turkey note, I saw another white hen this morning off the bypass in Clarksville.
  2. Yep. The ticks and snakes are out already too. I can't wait for my first dose of seed ticks and chiggers! I am thinking about wrapping my body in saran-wrap this year.
  3. She caught these just down the hill from you. We were fishing on Tims Ford.
  4. I have had lots of good days fishing. I grew up on a large TVA lake and fished a lot as a kid. We had good large mouth fishing, good small mouth fishing, good crappie and good striper fishing just out my door. I had a stocked trout stream 5 miles from my house and my parents took me deep sea fishing just about every year. I lived in Alaska for 3 years and caught every species of salmon, caught big halibut, cod and sea bass. I lived on the gulf coast of south Florida for seven years. I got to fish the flats for redfish, sea trout, bonefish, flounder and snook. I got to fish Boca Grande pass for huge Tarpon. I fished piers for giant gag grouper and king mackerel. Of course there was the famous south Florida large mouth bass fishing too. I have been blessed to fish some the most sought after water in the North America, but Saturday was without a doubt my best day fishing. My daughter and I were fishing off a dock on the lake I grew up on. The lake is a couple hours south of where we live now, but my mom still lives there and we were having family get-together Saturday night, so I figured we would arrive early and do some fishing. The weather was beautiful, partly sunny and 70 degrees. We had out ultralight poles and a bucket of minnows and were hoping to get enough crappie for dinner. Well it turned out that the crappie weren't bitting great. I caught a couple small one and we had hit a slow period with no bites. My daughter shoved her rod under a boat cleat and started texting on her cell phone. Then all of a sudden I heard her drag screaming. She grabbed the pole and and started yelling for me to help her. I talked her through fighting the fish and had her work it up slow to the edge of the dock. We didn't have a net, so I laid on my belly and this was what I pulled out of the lake... A 4 pound small mouth bass. I couldn't believe she landed this fish with an ultralight and a #4 crappie hook. She started telling me how I should be fishing and that her method was the best. I told her it was just luck that she caught that fish while crappie fishing. She re-baited her hook and shoved the rod back under the boat cleat. We called my wife and told her the story and several family members came down from the house to see her fish. Everyone went back up to the house and it was just her and I on the dock again. Then I hear the drag screaming again! She grabbed the pole and the situation repeated itself. This time I reached down and pulled up.... Another 4 pound small mouth! OK, so lighting does strike twice. Well actually it probably would have struck three times, but the third time was NOT a charm. The third time she managed to get a big strike on her ultralight pole shoved under the boat cleat resulted in a lost fishing pole. I am sure it was another big small mouth. She was upset about losing the pole, but the two nice fished just about overshadowed it. A great day for sure.
  5. I went and watched those videos again and it's still funny as heck.
  6. I went out to our hunting lease today to look for turkeys. We found them. I would guess 70 in total, about 10 gobblers. The neatest thing was the silver hen! She was beautiful! Lots of good sign, lots of birds. I can't wait for season to get here. I am going out tomorrow morning early to listen to them gobble before work. Hopefully this warm spell will have the worked up in the morning.
  7. I bought one in a model 535 a couple weeks ago and while I haven't finished sighting in I can tell you the following: It is light so I expected it to kick worse than other 3.5" guns, but the pistol grip does a good job of helping to disperse the recoil. With Hevi Shot, mine shoots high. I ran out of rear sight adjustment and I am still high, but just barely. I ordered a Burris FastFire II to take care of the sight issue, and cause I just wanted one. The patterns were nice using the Magnum blend Hevi Shot, but I am going to test Hevi 13 #7's next week when I get the red dot mounted. My trigger could stand some work, but overall I like the gun for what it is, a dedicated turkey gun.
  8. BTW, you know there isn't a gun made that kicks harder than a 870 Super Mag with 3.5" shells. You are going to look like that Arab shooting the T-Rex from the internet video.
  9. DANG BOY! That sure is a nice set up. I was within a gnat's nose of getting the Mueller, but ended up ordering the Burris FastFire II. I think you will like the Mueller, it really seems popular with the turkey crowd. I wanted the choice of dots, but went with the smaller sight in the end. Let me know how well you like it after the season is over. I still want to put a dot on my daughter's gun and will probably go with the Mueller. I hope you hammer one with your dad's gun.
  10. Will do. I ordered a red dot sight that should be here Monday and I will probably shoot tuesday or wednesday next week. Check Midsouth Shooters Supply, Reloading, Air Guns, Optics, Muzzleloaders & Shooting Supplies for Hevi loads. That is where I got my #7's. Of course, they are just across the interstate from me.
  11. Turkey season opened yesterday in Alabama so I texted my buddy and asked if he hunted. He texted me back that his season didn't open till the 11th of April. I texted back ??????? You big dummy, your season opened today. He is in flight school at Fort Rucker and completely missed the opener being so wrapped up in flying whirly birds. He said he would correct the error by Saturday. How do you miss the opener??? He is going to catch it from me for a long time over this.
  12. I got off light. She wants to go to Nashville with her girlfriends for her 40th birthday on the 8th, so I am booking them hotel rooms. Everything is good. nothing a little butt kissing can't fix.
  13. She ain't mad, she was just busting on me for being consumed. I think she was fishing for an argument from me (cause that's what we do for fun), but I didn't want to play. I was busy practicing. :) She knows she married a hunter. We had that fight first, almost 15 years ago. I have a great, supportive wife. We bust on each other alot, but we can because we know we've got each others back when the SHTF.
  14. ...that's what my wife proclaimed today! Seems she if feed up with all the money I have been spending, all the practice calling, all the hunting videos and the fact, even though season is still a few weeks away, I am gone to the woods all the time. She started listing off all the money I spent last year on decoys, new vest, new calls, shells, camo clothes. Then she started listing off all the money I spent this year on a 500.00 gun, 250.00 reflex sight, 180.00 on shells, new choke tube, new cody slate, new mouth calls, a couple new strikers. Then she complained about how my daughter had already outgrown the camo we bought for deer season and how we were going to have to buy more camo for her. Atleast that is what I heard her complaining about. I am sure there was more, but I was practicing on a glass call with a really loud striker and couldn't hear everything she was saying. When she finished and stood there waiting for me to respond, I reminded her that I needed her to stop by MidSouth Shooters Supply on her way home tomorrow and pick up the 3 boxes of Hevi 13 I had waiting on me there. It must be her time of the month, cause she didn't respond well to my simple request. She yelled "I hate turkey hunting". I said, "How can you say you hate it? You've never even been." She's been hold-up in the bedroom ever since. I hope she don't forget my Hevi-Shot tomorrow. I swear, women are harder to figure out than turkeys. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D
  15. Well this year I have a new turkey gun. It is a "pump" so I won't need help getting it up again.
  16. Hey WD-40, Ask JG how many turkeys he has shot since moving to TN. Last year he and I were trying to ninja up on a couple birds at Cross Creeks and ended up empty handed. JG declared that Easterns were harder to hunt than Osceolas. Hopefully this year I can add to everyone's enjoyment by killing lots of turkeys in comical fashion. You just have to promise not to post pictures of me in my turkey hunting panties...
  17. I am going to shoot a few of the Hevi 13 #7 to see how they pattern. Right now I am shooting the Hevi Magnum blends of 5,6,7 shot. They pattern ok, but I have been wanting to try the straight 7s to see what I get.
  18. Well, that is why they allow you to testify in your own defense in court... Everybody KNOWS that game wardens lie! Although some of the details change depending on which party is telling the story, it was a great story and a great hunt. It went something like this: Me and Wildman were hunting a private farm in Montgomery county. We were on a late afternoon hunt and when we arrived we got on birds right away. I was shooting and Wildman was calling (my first error in judgement). We slipped down the woods road and could see the gobblers strutting at the edge of the field. We get into position in the woods and Wildman immediately starts calling to them and manages to run both gobblers off. We watched the birds disappear over the back side of a hill in the open field. So Willdman decides we need to belly crawl the short 200 yard distance across this field and hit the sage grass at the crest of the hill where the turkeys went. No problem right? Have you ever belly crawled 200 yards across a disked corn field? I just quit breathing after the first 150 yards cause it was easier to die than continue. Somehow I managed to will myself the rest of the way and lay dieing in the sage grass depression. Wildman whispers that he is going to ease of the crest and see if he can locate the turkeys. I just lay there and gasped for air. Wildman came back way to quick and informed me the turkeys were just over the crest at 30 yards and for me to slip up and hammer the strutter! As I started crawling over the crest, I catch movement on my right. 4 deer almost stepped on me! I didn't want to spook them and in turn spook the turkeys so I had to wait till they got past. After they were past me, I crawled up to the crest next to Wildman and he is "whisper yelling" for me to shoot the strutter! I look over the crest and see a big gobbler coming out of strut and heading away from me, past Wildman. So imagine the two of us laying in the grass, me on the right, him on the left, bird in front of us moving to the left. Wildman is continuing to whisper yell for me to shoot now, shoot now, he's getting to far out. I am doing my best to raise my gun, mounted on my left shoulder, with my right hand and quickly finding that my arm is not long enough to get the gun high enough to shoot the turkey. I couldn't move from my belly, I was out of arm length and the bird was getting away. Wildman is asking, do you got him? do you got him? I say, raise my gun barrel. The barrel is basically in front of his face now. He looks at me funny and says, WHAT? I said, RAISE MY BARREL! Wildman grabs the barrel and magically raises the gun to the perfect height and I pulled the trigger. BOOM! FLOP! dead bird. You know, to me, it was a great partnership that resulted in a successful hunt. We were all high fives and chest bumps in the field, then somehow when we got home the story changed. Somehow it became a great chance to razz me about "needing help getting it up". Gotta love good friends like Wildman and WD-40.
  19. I've heard that you can kill hogs with it.
  20. Only 16 days and a wake up if you got a kid! This year my daughter is going to get run from ridge to ridge till she busts a redhead in the mouth. We're gonna put new meaning to run and gun turkey hunting.
  21. I think I could be coaxed into a hunting trip, especially if a certain Springfield feller was asking.
  22. I may have some in my parts box. PM me your address and I will drop them in the mail if I have them. Actually, I know I have some that fit a 917, but I am sure they are the same bases. They may not be what you want, but you can't beat the price... EDIT: I found what I believe are the bases for the Marlin. They are a 2 piece weaver style set in matte black. Unbelievably, I found all 4 screws for them too. Let me know if you want them.
  23. Don't go to GunTroll! I don't want him to be too busy incase I break a gun. HEHEHE
