  1. I hate going outside when it is as hot as its been. I hate being inside as much as I have been lately. Guess I am going to have to start night fishing to get out.
  2. I don't like it. I hate wearing orange while bow hunting. I also liked not having gun hunters around during the season. Oh well, I guess it pleases the masses and does make the seasons easier to follow.
  3. This is exactly what I am wanting to build. Any chance we could get a picture?

    Ruger 77/357

It's neat, but...Why chamber a bolt gun in .357? Don't get me wrong, I like the round and I like bolt actions. I just don't think the two go well together. It seems to me that a lever action or semi auto makes more sense as a .357 carbine. Even the single shot makes more sense to me. I guess that's why we don't all have the same taste in firearms.
  5. My daughter and I hunt every year. We usually have to go to a WMA leased field. There will be a list on the TWRA website when dove season gets closer. I would love to find a great private hunt with lots of birds. My daughter hasn't had the pleasure to shoot her shoulder sore on a dove hunt yet.
  6. Freaking Awesome. I know how you feel. My daughter got her first turkey this spring too.
  7. Appalachian, you should go over to Fayetteville and float the Elk. Check out this website for details and directions: Elk River Canoe Rentals - Welcome to our "Stress Free Zone" on the Elk River in Tennessee If my memory servers me right there is a place to canoe over near Dunlap TN too.
  8. I had a 94 in .22LR. The single action trigger was fine. The double action was so heavy that I reached muscle failure around the second cylinder. I tried changing to a lighter main spring, but the gun became unreliable, not setting off every primer. I am a .22WMR fan, but I like it in a rifle. For a handgun, I would consider a dual cylinder gun so I could shoot both. The Ruger single six is a better gun in my opinion, especially since the double action practice with the 941 is all but impossible.
  9. My buddy in Florida put a hand pumped well on his hunting property for about 2000.00. I think it really depends on how deep they have to drill to hit water on your place. A hand pumped well would be a great addition in my opinion. Especially if you can get it done reasonably.
  10. How old are you and how big are you? If your 12 and a 100 pounds, then a .308 is probably too much to start on. Even if you're 20, a bolt action .308 kicks enough that you could develop a flinch learning to shoot it. .308 vs 30-06 is a better comparison. 30-30 is a fine gun for Tennessee. I would want something bigger for elk, but be realistic about your hunting opportunities when choosing your rifle. Do you have hunting grounds that you can shoot elk on? Do you have hunting grounds that will allow you to shoot past 100 yards? As far as ammo cost, it is all pretty expensive except for .22 long rifle. 30-06 is a good recommendation to start with. You can work your way up from "reduced recoil" rounds and it is probably the best all around gun for North America. There is also lots of ammo choices in every state and it's easy to find due to popularity. Just keep in mind that hunting doesn't have to begin with deer or elk. You can learn alot from squirrels, rabbits and birds.
  11. maybe the "Hunting Forum" would be better as the "Outdoor Forum" a place for hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, canoeing, ect. Just a thought.
  12. Haven't found enough to eat, but... Two weeks ago we had a family camp and canoe trip for my nieces' (twins) birthday. We went to the Elk River near Fayetteville, TN. It was a great weekend, perfect weather and the girls had a blast. I was the only guy with 9 girls and I still had a great time. Today, my daughter, her best friend and I met my co-worker and his son for a float on the Red River near our house. This was my first time canoeing the Red River, but it turned out great. It's nice to have such a great river close to home. Here are some pics from the two weekends. Best Friends Mrs. Whiskey The dogs' first canoe trip and they did great. all the girls paddled kayaks by themselves. And Crawdad's were the first priority at each stop The Elk The Red River
  13. So if gun season for hogs is open year round, and hogs are big game, and we have to wear orange during any big game gun season, then we have to wear orange year round, including turkey hunting and archery season.
  14. Dang WD! That made me cringe. Tell K-Bug we're real sorry she had to go through that mess. I would have never imagined that could even happen.
  15. Rob, you should hit the Elk River below Tims Ford Dam. Lots of stocked rainbows. Lots of it can be waded, but you do need to check the generation schedule, the water comes up fast. I got stuck in the middle when I was a teenager and I had a friend die there next year by getting caught in rising water.
  16. Get your application in before the end of the month deadline. Free if you are a sportsman's license holder. THE HUNT IS ON
  17. For me fishing is mostly hunting. Hunting for a good spot, hunting for my gear, hunting for another cold beer...
  18. The trappers I know only trap for one reason, money. They often get paid to trap the hog, then they take the hogs home and sell them off to "hunting preserves" for paid hunts. To be legal, they are required to vaccinate the hogs before transporting them out of state, but I doubt that happens much.
  19. I refuse to quit! I hunted morning and evening yesterday. So many close calls, just no sealed deal. Gonna hit it hard this weekend and I am not above any legal means.
  20. I shoot the DXT, but I have read lots of good stuff about Z7 series. Short ATA bows are not for everyone, but if you shot one and like it, then go for it. They are fast and smooth.
  21. It's good to know where you stand. Personally, I have had good luck with the 3 Taurus revolvers I have owned. I wonder if the 55oz weight includes both cylinders? I am interested, I like double action rimfires and it would nice if it shot well with both cylinders.
  22. I use old bay's and Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning in the water and a few lemons cut in half and squeezed in the water. You can add a little cider vinegar and beer. Google "Low Country Boil" and follow the recipe that looks best for what you like.
  23. Every year, 40 pounds of mudbugs, ice cold beer, corn, sausage, red taters and whole mushrooms and about 20 couples trying to consume more than is humanly possible. Just thinking about this makes me ready for summer time.
