The annual Robertson Co lease field is just a few miles from my house. I usually hunt there, but this year there weren't any birds. I got an invite to a private field in Kentucky. We had a few birds, but it was a long slow day. 3 of us managed 18 birds. I'm hoping the birds find the Robertson Co field as there are two more hunt dates, Saturday and Monday.

Most of the leased fields are on the website now. I haven't seen many this year, hoping that the corn that's being shelled this week will make a few show up.

You could always get your wife her own bike... My wife picked this up last week. 883 Superlow. Mine is a 1200 Nightster.

I took a buddy out hunting this morning for his birthday. We've hunted a few other days this season with no success. He closed the deal this morning on a pasture bird.

Got #6 of the year at Fort Campbell on Saturday. I should have gotten two, but I missed the second one. Best bird of this season. 20lbs, 10.5" beard, 1.25" Spurs.

Congratulations Whiskey. Another good bird. I've still not had much luck. This is got to be my worst season in about 5-6 years.
Hang in there. We called in 6 gobblers on 4 different set ups today. They are finally starting to act right. -
Great day in the woods. Doubled with my buddy last year on 4/20 and pulled it off again today.

So some of y'all may have seen this bird on Facebook, but I got to see it in person. My buddy Greg killed this yesterday and it is a true trophy, IMO. You'll never meet a nicer guy than Greg, and you would be hard pressed to find a better turkey hunter.
6 beards KY stud. It wasn't even the strutter.

Got a pretty good one opening day in Kentucky. Then the proceeded to kick my butt today. Hope to get in several days of hunting this week.

Nice bird!! did you weigh it?
I didn't weigh him, but he was a light bird. Probably only 18-19 pounds. -
At 14 pounds, pack it however you want. For me, till you get upwards of 20 pounds, it doesn't matter a lot. Also, if your just day hiking, with a light pack, it's probably not a big deal.
I have a 32 liter Osprey Exos and a 33 Liter Osprey Talon, both great weekend sized packs. I have an REI Flash 18 and Flash 45. The 18 is a super light day pack with a capacity about 10-12 pounds. The 45 is made just like an Osprey and is my usual winter pack. If you like the Osprey, go for it. It's a quality pack.

Didn't get to hunt Saturday due to being out of town Friday night. However, got out this morning and while things didn't go exactly as planned, I got a bird in the fridge.
We set up blindly, but near a know roost area. When they fired up, they were on every side of us and I know I heard 10 different gobblers. They henned up quickly, but we kept working them. Around 7:15 two long beards walked in to our set up. I took careful aim and shot the lead bird at about 30 yards. 3.5" #4's knocked him off his feet, but I hit him low. He got up and ran off, me emptying the gun at him. We searched the woods and briar patches, but didn't find him. I was down on myself and questioning my sights, shells, choke choices. Guess I pulled low on the shot, but still felt it was enough lead and close enough it should have kept him down. My partner left to go to church and I stayed to look some more.
While walking the woods, rustling the leaves caused another bird to fire up. I eased to the field edge and called in a flock. Shot this one at 20 yards and didn't pull the shot low.
I hate losing wounded game.

I got skunked at Ft Campbell. Birds were still in the woods, not really fired up. Sunday was a decent day, till we got caught out in a down pour/hail storm. Can't wait for next weekend.

Couldn't get the bids to play yesterday. Had some public land interference off the roost, then it was slow. Back at it again today.

31 degrees at Fort Campbell this morning. Heard lots of gobbles yesterday in Wilson county, scouting.

My first hunt will be Ft Campbell this Saturday. I got the same area I opened with last year. I hope I am better situated this year. I chased them around the area last year, but couldn't close the deal. -
My best days were spent turkey hunting with my daughter. She was probably 11 here, she's 17 now.
I started her with heavy pheasant loads.

I went down on Friday with a buddy. Got one of the NWTF Grand Slam Vests they had for 99 and two custom pot calls.
I also got parts to build a robo decoy. I'll post a video when I get it done.

Yes, it's still nearly 2 months away. Who cares! I am pumped up and can't wait.
