  1. Nobody has posted on this in a while. I wondered if anybody had got another bird or had been hunting? I've not done any good in the last week? I've heard several but, haven't got any to come in. Good luck to everybody.

Birds have been working well after 9am for me.

  2. Got a double at Land Between the Lakes this morning. It was a great hunt, both of us shooting 20ga TSS loads, both very thankful to be able to get a public land double, especially as tough as those LBL birds are.

  3. I'm looking for someone to hunt with.  I have plenty of good land with turkeys and my own gear, I just can't call.  If anyone is around Lebanon and would like to team up send me a PM

Pm'd you my number. I got a buddy down there, great caller.

  4. Yeah if the TruGlo cracks again I'm going to look into Burris.  TruGlo customer service is replacing it but the only disappointing part is having to pay for shipping to send it and return it ($20 total in shipping).   Still on the fence with the Longbeards vs Hevi-Shot.  What kind of results have you had as far as distance?  Shots above were at 30yds.

I sight in at 40. Both will kill out out my gun at 60. I don't try to shoot birds that but I shot one at 63 with Hevi 7's last year, after my buddy shot and the 2nd bird ran to the fence.

I got 250-300 in the 10" at 40, but you got to shoot out far to see what your gun holds and just cut it at that.

  5. The longbeards are good shells. I tried them last year, but decided to stick with the HeviShot.

Too bad about the scope. Hopefully it will be back soon. I run Burris fastfires on both my shotguns. I dropped and busted one a couple years back, all my fault, and Burris still replaced it for free. They won a permanent customer over that.

  6. Hunting with a new gun this year. Franchi Affinity 20ga with hand loaded TSS #9's. Hunted with TSS last year in a mossberg. It's magical stuff, but here's what's left of $50.00 with.

    ec87d9515de10d4f3cd5d145124d057a.jpg

The Franchi 20ga put 272 pellets in the 10" circle and 521 pellets (including the 272 in the 10") in the 20" circle. That is pretty balanced and exactly what I was hoping for.

I also shot the old Mossberg 12ga to make sure it was ready for season. Whatever lube I cleaned it with last year gummed up and it wouldn't fire. I pulled it apart, soaked it and oiled it up and its back in business.

12ga Mossberg 535 with Pure Gold .670 choke and Hevi-13 #7 3.5" shells it put 259 pellets in the 10" circle and 527 in the 20" circle. This guns is a proven killer with these Hevi 7's.

  7. Hey guys - any idea how this is for hunting?  Thinking specifically for coyote later this season.  Do they smell it strongly?  If so, any alternatives that they wouldn't catch as easy?
I've recently become aware of the rare tick disease which prevents you from eating meat *ever* again without a severe reaction.  NO THX

Sorry, late response, but it has no odor after it drys.

  8. Good to know.  I wore it around at the show and it seemed ok but I also didn't have anything in the pockets.   Looks like it weights 6 lbs. 14 oz.

I really wish they had made the frame aluminum to shave some weight.

It was great to just sit down in a big patch of honeysuckle and not worry about having a tree.

  9. Did you score one of the Alps Grand Slam Turkey Vests at the show?  Has a kickstand frame (http://www.alpsoutdoorz.com/products/nwtf/hunting-vests/grand-slam)
Hunting buddy and I each bought one.   Show price was $99 and no sales tax.  Website price has $179.  My hunting buddy said this pack looks much better than the Tenzing that he paid a lot more for and is going to sell now.   Picked up a replacement turkey pot call in addition (lost a good one in the fields last season).   It's made by Tru-Tone.  Is a water proof hand turned corian pot.  Show price $40, website price $60.

I bought the same vest in APG last year, but it was heavier than I could tolerate. I sold it to a buddy and went back to my old one. However, it was super comfortable. If you don't mind the weight, you will enjoy it.

  10. This will be my second season turkey hunting. I didn't even see one last year on my old lease. My new one is different. I saw probably 20 or more turkeys during deer season. I'm hoping to get one this year.

Best of luck. Turkeys in the fall don't always mean turkeys come spring, but it is better than never seeing any. LOL

  11. Very anxious myself.  I bought a new Remington 870 SPS Super Mag Turkey Pump-Action Shotgun about 2 years ago.  Will be my 3rd season with it.

You using the factory choke? The longbeards are great shells. If my mossberg didn't shoot the Hevi 7's so well, I'd be shooting longbeards.
