1. I'd recommend that you drive out to the MWR Outdoor Rec office and talk to the folks that work the counters. We could discuss back and forth, and Dave and I would be happy to do that, but one ride out there will accomplish a lot for you. You need to register your firearms to hunt with them on post. You also have to have a hunter safety card and current TN license. There is a call in system to get assigned an area. You have to pick up your assignment pass ahead of time. You have several rules that seem a little petty, but could result in loss of privilege. There is a website that lists all this too. Google Ft Campbell MWR Hunting. The website is confusing to me. If you get through all the Red tape on the front end, it's not that bad to just get out and hunt. My biggest problem with it is my distance from there. I live out near port royal, so it's a good drive to pick up assignments the day before.
2. There is plenty of public hunting land within an hour of Clarksville. Fort Campbell, Land Between the Lakes, Barkley WMA, Cheatham WMA, Cross Creeks, and several smaller WMA areas.    Check out the TWRA website and spend some time reading up on the specific seasons and regs for some of the nearby WMA areas. TWRA breaks the state down into Regions. They show maps with available areas. Some have special regulations like LBL adn Ft. Campbell. It really just depends on what you want to hunt and the spending a little time learning the woods.
3.   Can't you just explain that you are doing something way more important than work? I am sure they will understand. If not, I hear unemployment is the hip career choice.
4. Shot my Henry this morning. Killed 3 squirrels. It shoots great with the shorts too. I had it sighted for the shorts, but changed it back to LR during the ammo shortage because I had just a couple 50 boxes of shorts. Yup.
5.   I hate hunting in the rain, but I have seen more deer movement just after a long hard rain, than just about any other time. Those all night rains that end just before day break make for exciting mornings.
6. Heck, I've been fishing with him at LBL for years. I just don't tell everybody cause he knows all the good spots. Yup.
7. Oh you talk big now, but just wait... LOL you will be upgrading faster then they can release new models. :) I finally settled in on the same bow for the past 5 years. Don't see enough change to buy another yet. Yup.
8. Well, I guess that depends on how you define a working man. There are government workers that are not being paid, won't get retro pay, and don't know for how long this will affect their family. In Clarksville this affects a lot of working men and women. Yup.
9. Put a new PackLite upper on the frame. Or better yet, buy a new gun and sell me your old lower cheaply and I will put a pac-lite on it. :) Yup.
10. Sorry I missed your post earlier, I have been out hunting the closed parks. Had the whole place to myself. :) Yup.
11. I have heard a lot of stories about problems with the rage doing exactly what you explained. Can't blame the head for a high hit, but some just do a better job than others depending on set up. I don't like rage for the same reason I don't like most of the similar designed heads. These heads have long blades that are at too much of an angle perpendicular to the arrow. I want a head that doesn't create as much resistance going through. I shoot WASP Jak Hammer SST mechanicals. They have performed well for me.     I am sorry I was out of town this weekend. I wish I had seen your post on Saturday, I would have brought my dog down this morning to help. She's trailed several deer and done a good job so far.
12. I get off pavement enough that I wanted a little more meat, so I went with the BFG All Terrain TA/KO and this is the second set I have owned. They last a long time for the type tire they are. To me, they are loud. Lots of folks say they aren't but they are on my truck. I can hear my wife coming 1/2 mile off. I had a set of the Mich. LTX on a Chevy and they were great tires. I would say get them if you are mostly on road. Yup.
13. A cheaper muzzleloader may be a better option. Opens another season for you and gets you legal at FTCKY. Yup.
14. I vote watch Craigslist and the classified for a slug barrel. Yup.
15. My daughter has a .243 rem 700. Yes it is too heavy for her. However, I don't want her shooting it off hand yet anyway. I learned early on with my daughter to allow and encourage the use of a gun stick. She's killed a half dozen deer and more turkeys and they were all shot with a monopod under her gun. If you end up with a heavy gun, put it on a bench or a stick until she graduates to off hand shooting. Better to build confidence than muscles is my motto. Yup.
16. Speaking from experience, my 14 year old daughter is happiest shooting a .22LR. The noise is a big factor. She dislikes ranges because of the surrounding big caliber guns. She has her own 20ga, her own .243, and a couple .22s. She has access to much more. She always takes the Henry lever action as her first choice. If you decide to get her a .22 and can't get ammo, PM me and I will send her some. If you are dead set against a .22, a .223 would be the only center fire I would want to start a girl with. Yup.
17. Every old pump, 500's included, that I have owned had the pump release near the trigger guard. Yup.
18. I don't believe we should be genetically modifying anything. Deer, corn or babies. Science is messing up a lot of good things. I can't help but feel that this is going to end poorly. Yup.
19. I've cooked on them, they are ok. Basspro has a few nicer ones. Got my mom one for Christmas one year. Weather is perfect for camping. Now you can get those kiddos up to LBL for a weekend long camp on the lake.
20. I love to bird hunt. I prefer a .20ga semi auto. Especially for quail. If you know you plan to pheasant or duck hunt a lot then a 12ga may be better. It's really about what you want to lug around all day. Most duck hunters like the 3 or 3,5 shells. I am about to buy a new 20ga semi. Got it narrowed down to a Franchi Affinity or 1100. The Franchi is 2 pounds light. The 1100 is a classic. Yup.
21. Check out the Hornady XTP factory loads. They should be fine in the 19 and work well on deer.
22.
You guys are wusses....! :jester: :stir:
God made some of us tough and some of us smart. I am glad you are tough. :) Yup.
23. I love turkey hunting, but I don't hunt them in the fall. It's not exactly the same game in the fall. Read up on fall hunting turkeys before you pull the trigger. If you only have a desire to kill a turkey and nothing else, then I suggest you wait till spring. If you may want to hunt deer and turkey and rabbits and squirrels and quail and dove and coyotes... Then get a license and hit the woods. Yup.
24. Saltine crackers and some kind of canned processed meat product for lunch. I like trail mix, beef jerky, and cliff bars. The original cliff bars are chewy and don't get busted up or make noise. They keep all season too. Lance's peanut butter crackers are my main stay. If I go all day without eating I get a little cranky. Yup.
25. Ya gotta parboil them first, then batter and deep fry them. Serve with biscuits and white gravy.
