1.   You'll never shoot a deer sitting on the couch. Well, hopefully never. :)   I have buddies that would have just gone home when they missed getting in the stand before daylight, or had a dead battery, or had a stinking jacket. They miss the mental aspect of just being in the woods.
2.   Where's the challenge in using a .22? If you want challenge get a slingshot!    Usually if I am squirrel hunting it's because I just want to be in the woods...and I like squirrel and dumplins. I like to use a .22 because I don't like to bite into shot. I grew up hunting with a shotgun, but now I only carry a shotgun if I am hunting with a kid that is using a .22. That way I can bust them if they miss and the squirrel runs.
3. I've had a couple stolen and I try to hide them...
4. I can't wait for a hot, sweaty, bug infested bow season next year. I hate sitting in the cold.
5. Thanks for the link and info. Don't sweat the the guys wearing tinfoil hats. :)
6. I am left handed and like both lever guns and bolt actions. I have a couple left handed bolts, but I shoot right handed bolts too. I like shot action bolt guns. .243, 7mm-08, .308.
7. I smoked a butt to go with our greens and black eyed peas. I are too much, now I am laying in the floor watching football. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
8. You need to get a sausage stuffer and do big sticks of summer sausage. I wonder if you could add a smoke tray to it? Something like this: http://www.amazenproducts.com/mobile/Category.aspx?id=12 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
9. My gun likes the Winchester Super X the best, but they are hard to find. I have had good luck with them, but haven't shot much other than hogs and squirrels. The hogs were all close head shots. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
10.
Adding chips every 90 mins is that the norm??? My dad used a smoker when we were kids but he primarily smoked whiting and venison..it was great stuff.more I think about it... What's a good starter or entry level smoker?? And is there a book or guide that y'all pro smokers recommend ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 of course it ate my spelling.
What is a book? :) I find forums more useful than books when it comes to starting a new hobby. 11.
I vote for whiskey as the next range roundup smoke master !!! I'd live to learn how to properly run a smoker Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 of course it ate my spelling.
Smoking is the lazy man's way. That's why it fits me well. :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
12. Check out recipes for "caveman style" steaks. Awesome goodness and about as easy as falling down. We camp several times a year, so I do a little campfire cooking. I like to slice up squash and onions and wrap them up with some butter in a foil pack. Fruit is good grilled over a fire too. Halved peaches, apples, pineapple and mango. 13. Merry Christmas. Hope y'all ate well and stay warm tonight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
14. Glad to hear he's feeling better. Has the vet said what caused the pancreatitis? Just curious, I have 3 pups. My grandmother had a dog die from it and so did a friend. I have heard that meats that contain phosphates can cause it, such as bacon and ham. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
15. I have the same electric Masterbuilt you linked to Dave. I got mine at Lowe's or Home Depot. It died on me once, after several years of smoking. One of the wire solder joints had burnt into. Took me 10 mins to take the back off and fix it. It's been going good for another couple years. I smoked a ham this morning, put it on at 3am. I load wood chips about every 90 minutes. I have a remote probe thermometer so I hardly ever have to open the smoker door. I set my temp at 240 for the 22 pound ham. From cold it took about 3 hours to get to 230, it was at 200 after the first 90 mins. Smoked started around 100 degrees because the chips lay close to the hearing element. I have smoked ribs, butts, chickens, hams, small briskets, bologna, sausage, and even cheese. Too temp is 275, bottom is 100. Once mine gets to temp, it is usually within 10-15 degrees through the cook. Opening the door affects it a lot. Here's this mornings ham. 7 hours cook time. Taste like heaven. 16. I will probably get a weber next, unless I can convince my wife to get me a Big Green Egg. I have ready up on the Weber's and they always get good reviews. I am about to put a Dr. Chicken's double smoked ham on the master built for Christmas dinner. Good stuff! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
17.
I have a Masterbuilt. I get great results, once I learned a couple of things. I wind up smoking more frequently because you don't have to stay on top of it as much as a real fire. The electrics tend to be a little quicker too, because the temperature is pretty constant. If it ever dies, I'm pretty sure I'll replace it with a Brinkman.
I have had a Masterbuilt for several years now. I love it much more than the round body brinkmann smokers. I had a char-grill side fire box and it was ok, but hard to keep steady. The electric ones are set it and go watch football. Dave, make an Ugly Drum Smoker. I can get you a steel drum if you want to give it a go. Google for plans.
18. Looks great! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
19. I have the Savage 93 and it is a great gun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
20.
I wear camo, tuck up in a depression alongside a tree stump, & if I feel it necessary will pull a branch or two around me. Cheap & effective. I guess a factory blind is helpful if you want to drink coffee & move around w/ reckless abandon?
Don't be silly! That will never work! :) just kidding of course. One nice advantage of a blind is swiveling around in all directions for a shot. Rain is the main reason I like a blind. Cold is the other. I put a heater in mine. The turkey hunting approach is fine for gun hunting, but difficult with a bow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
21.
My little brother took this high rack 10 pointer this morning. It's his biggest buck to date, congrats little brother!
That's what he gets for sneaking around the tire pile. :) nice deer.
22. The higher priced ones perform much better than the really cheap ones, especially in the rain. I like the ones with slide up windows rather than zip open windows. Much quieter and eSier to adjust opening sizes.
23. As a former soldier at Fort Campbell, I can tell you that it does matter. When you are stationed at Fort Campbell you have the option to choose your state of residence. You don't have to choose either, you can maintain your original home of record residence, or your previous state if residence, or you can choose KY or TN. Most choose TN due to the KY state tax. The soldiers stationed there can purchase firearms in either state, but I am pretty sure that doesn't apply to them selling you a gun. So long as they have a TN drivers license, you are fine. That shows they have established residency. Otherwise, I would pay 15 to 20 bucks to have an FFL do the transfer and be safe rather than sorry. Edit: TMF's post above may solve your problem. I would still play it safe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
24. Best of luck. I drew that hunt once and just went home after seeing the set up. If I were you, I would just go as far from the crowd as possible.
25. I have a 15 year old daughter. No doubt every penny of the cost will be the best money you ever spend.
