Aoudad (Barbary Sheep) in South Texas, spot & stalk with my longbow. That's second on my list, but hopefully the first I'll actually get to do. Number 1, top of the tree, all time, dream trophy would be a West African, Red River Hog. Coolest looking hog on the planet & one of the 2 species I need to complete the Traditional 'Ham Slam' (Feral Hog, Javelina, European Boar, Warthog, Bushpig, Red River Hog) with a longbow. -
Just my opinion, but the stocks should be wooden, the barrels octagonal & the firing mechanism should be on the side. Ramrods should be wooden, propellant should be powdered & projectiles should be round & lead. The longer the barrel, the better! Muzzleloader season, to my mind, should be re-classified as 'primitive muzzleloader' season. The lines between modern centerfires & modern muzzleloaders are a little too close these days. There's almost no need to own a cetrefire hunting gun anymore. Modern frontstuffers are just as accurate & near as dammit as quick to reload. To my mind, half the fun of muzzleloader hunting is getting in closer & making your one shot count, not having at 'em from 300 yards away. Not looking down or disparaging anyone's hunting choices, just my own observations & opinions & worth exactly what you're paying for them!

Black Wildebeest It's actually the SCI world record for an archery kill. I shot him in Namibia in 2007.

They're bought in to hunt & all the Outfitters I know in TN that have 'guarenteed' hunts, hold the hunts in fenced enclosures. I'm not saying it's canned hunting, but it is high fence hunting.

Make it a legal responsibility to remove all edible meat from any Deer killed, the same as Wyoming/Alaska/etc... I've come accross 4 headless deer in the woods this year

Yeah, the naval jelly just leaves the steel as a dull grey. The clorox leaves some very serious pits in a very short time. I generally leave the NJ for around 20 minutes thn wipe off & check progress. Re-apply as desired. The bleach will start to noticeably rust & pit the steel within 15 minutes. The naval jelly doesn't rust the steel like clorox does, just etches the surface.

If I might interject here, I've done this to plenty of my own knives over the years. My customers occasionally wanted something 'old' looking & for ages I used ketchup, mustard or vinegar. However these all leave a very very shallow etch that can be scratched or polished off very quickly & easily. If you want a good, solid patina that is permanent coat the blade in clorox for a good pitted finish, or naval jelly for a light grey 'antique' effect. Here's an example of the clorox effect (the bigger of the two, the small knife is from genuine use).... And the naval jelly on the lock of my muzzleloader....

The problem with selling these particular Investarm Muzzleloaders, is that they're neither one thing or another. They're to far away from being 'historically correct' for the traditional sidelock shooter & the modern hunter is more interestd in an inline. It's a shame really, because they are actually a fantastic piece. I own 3 Investarms rifles (Lyman Great Plains .54/.50 caplock, Great Plains flintlock .50 & a 'Hawken' like yours) Value wise, $150 is about right if the bore is perfect. The only thing thatever really detracts from muzzleloadres like this is that people buy them as a first frontstuffer & don't really know about te ins & outs of cleaning one properly. Especially if Pyrodex/777 has been used, pitting of the bore can be a real problem (incedentally, the barrel is NOT chrome lined) If the bore is 'dark' or pitted the value is vastly reduced. If pitting is very bad, or if the barrel has been 'ringed' by either short starting a ball/bullet or rusted out by being left loaded with pyro for too long, it's basically worthless. If you're wanting to sell it, you really need to know the condition of the bore. Put an oil-dampened (NOT SATURATED) patch on a cleaning jag & run it down the full length of the bore & back out. It should glide down & back very easily & feel silky smooth. If there are any rough, tight or loose spots or any snagging, you'll need to drop a bore light down & see what's going on. 99% of the time it'll just be a little surface rust that will remove easily with a bit of elbow grease & not harm anything. Unless you're really needing the money, your best bet would be to keep it & shoot it! Muzzleloaders are a lot of fun & filthy-cheap to shoot. If you stick with patched roundballs & leave the sabots (Yeuch!) alone yu can shoot for 3 or 4 cents per shot. You'd be very surprised at how accurate a rundball can be at 100yds! If you do decide to shoot it, gimme a shout & I'll sort you out with some balls & patches & get you started with load info too. Wait until the week before deer season if you decide to sell it. The value of 'cheap' frontstuffers goes up quite a bit then!

Haven't got a bad word to say about GB. I don't do a whole lot of buying & selling, but what I've done (from both sides) has been smooth & easy. The selling fees, I feel, are very reasonable.

Please be advised that I am sick and tired of receiving questions about my dog...... who mauled three Muslims sitting on a rug near my back yard, six illegal aliens wearing Barack Obama t-shirts, four Democrats wearing Nancy Pelosi t-shirts, two rappers, five phone operators who asked me to press #1 for English, nine teenagers with their pants hanging down past their butt cracks, eight customer service desk people speaking in broken English, ten flag burners and one Pakistani taxi driver FOR THE LAST TIME... THE DOG IS NOT FOR SALE!

I think I broke a State (if not Nationl) Record!
Handsome Rob replied to Handsome Rob's topic in Hunting and Fishing
Oh I agree absolutely! Don't get me wrong, I don't expect to shoot something at all, but to spend hundreds of hours in the woods without seeing anything bigger than a skwerl is pure disheartening. If I wanted to simply go somewhere for the solitude, I would find easier, more accessible places to go, go only when the weather's pleasant & go mid-morning, not 3am! I love just sitting in the woods, but with hunting there is at least a level of expectation to see your quarry. I'm not hunting Siberian Tigers here! It's not like Whietail are uncommon! There are frikkin' millions of them! You would think that by the Law of Averages, I should've seen something by accident! -
Well, i think it must be SOME kinda record. 32 days hunting deer this season, without seeing a single friggin' animal. I've seen one deer this year whilst hunting (opening day of bow season) & it's in the freezer. Frankly, I am glad that this season is over. I'm about fed up of the whole charade. I scouted well throughout the season, I found several places with lots of deer activity, I heard reports from those places of other people seeing lots of deer. I hunted all hours god sends, mornings, evenings, mid-days, all days; nothing. Not one single deer. I simply cannot understand what it is I'm doing wrong! I don't care that I'm not getting shots, there are plenty of folk that have hunted much longer than me without having taken a deer, but to simply not see them, even out of bow range (hell, even out of .243 range) is soul-destroying. The fact that I managed to stay motivated as long as I have is, honestly, miraculous. I have had hunts blown (2 yesterday!!) by other hunters & 1 game warden walking through my setup. I've had guys set up within 25 yards of me (Fall Creek Falls) I had a Father & Son set up 50 yards UPwind of me yesterday morning & another Father & Son team set up within 40 yards of me yesterday afternoon. I had a game warden follow my footprints through the snow to my stand. I had a guy at Fall Creek spotlight a doe that was crossng the road & looked like it may have been coming straight towards me (I forgot about that actually. I've seen 2 deer this year) I've sweated, frozen, twisted an already arthritic ankle, twisted & hurt my right knee. Been torn to shreds by saw-briars, tripped, fallen & generally made a wreck of myself. I've spent nights awake to be sure I could be out by 3am. I've bored myself to distraction, sitting in trees from 4am to 6pm without eating, reading, moving or doing anything other than staring into the woods. I even sank my boat tryin to find deer. I'm so hacked off with it that I'm seriously thinking that I'm not even going to bother next year. I thought last year was bad, I think saw a total of 14 deer last season, but this year has been a frustrating headache since day two (day one was pretty good!) I'm not looking for pity here folks. I just needed to vent!

What about the F**KING ZOMBIE CAT THAT'S LIVING IN MY BEDROOOOM!!!!!

Pretty nice from the carrying handle down. I'm with strick on the lighting. From there up, she's working her arms & shoulders too much. And I can't believe I'm saying this, but the implants are an overcompensation.

Aww, now that's just uncalled for Just because she's undead doesn't mean she doesn't have feelings.

Huntin' shows that get on your nerves?
Handsome Rob replied to roverboy's topic in Hunting and Fishing
The only shows I ever watch these days are Predator Nation & Easton's Bowhunting TV, simply because Fred Eichler is a good friend & I can't help but get enthusiastic along with him. He also doesn't buy into all the 'gadget' crap. -
Hi...my name is.... Post a picture of yourself!
