  1. I'm now trying to figure out exactly where & how to chop the rear fender. But I have GOT to get some black on that rear wheel first. The shiny is throwing my eye off.
  2. Out of the 17 days I spent in the mountains in Wyoming last year, I actually spent the first 9 (before the snow arrived) wearing Altama Aqua Assault sneakers. They've got a soft, flexible sole, but a stiff cuff with lots more ankle support than you'd expect. They did spectacularly well in steep, rough rocks & blowdowns. They dry very quickly too. I think I probably covered 60-80 miles in that time, all either up or down through timber & didn't get a single sore or hotspot. High 80⁰s was a little much for the insulated Lowas!
  3. I'm also undecided how long to leave the rear fender. Initially I was thinking super short, but now I'm not so sure. It'll be totally slick though. I've already got a side mount tail light & license plate & I'll be making some hidden turn signals that fit in the struts. I do wish my tanks would hurry up & get here. I want to get them & the fender powdercoated!
  4. I'm going to take them off & replace them with aftermarket copies. My original plan was to attack the rear fender with the grinder & repaint them all matt black but they're so clean, I can't bring myself to do it. And I saw how much they sell for as a complete, matching set... There are a couple of sets on ebay right now that're priced at more than half what I paid for the bike! I'm not expecting or wanting that much, but I'm fairly sure I could get 4 figures for them.
  5. You can go cleaner & still have mirrors I'm still waiting for cables & brake hose to come in. I'm going to start ripping into the back end next.
  6. @gregintenn Oooooo..... you're gonna be SO mad when l finish with the primary, timing & trans covers, horn, coils, fender struts & belt guard! The sight of my abbreviated rear fender may cause you an actual conniption! I'm not even going to mention the tanks....
  7. Spend the money. Your feet will thank you. My go to for years has been Lowa Tibet GTX, until apack rat got a hold of them in Wyoming last year. I downgraded to a pair of Lowa Ticam II, but they're just as good. Same shank & footbed, but a slightly lower cuff. They take some breaking in (probably 40 miles, at least) but once they're broke, they fit like slippers.
  8. Kids..... Just say "NO" to chrome. I got the entire front end, stripped, prepped & painted today. I need to get it back together tomorrow.
  9. Facebook marketplace actually.
  10. Very much not my first rodeo.....
  11. Yessir. I took the heel shifter off. Can't abide the things. They just get in the way & take up foot space on the floorboard. Unfortunately, it went with the seat.
  12. Obligatory crap pile pic..... it's getting bigger.
  13. Hey, someone has to represent during Pride week, no judgment here!
  14. Now, tell me these aren't as sexy as hell.
  15. It's a '99 FLSTC (Heritage Classic) the last year of the Evo. "Destroy" is very subjective. I don't like shiny. I like useable without worrying. Hence, selling the Model 70.... If I wanted a shiny bike to ogle, I'd have saved $4,990 & bought a poster
  16. UPDATE: Well, I couldn't pass it up. 5 grand, 23k on the clock & a full, detailed, dealer service history & the engine is completely stock. She runs like a sewing machine too. An absolutely perfect example of a tart's handbag. Unfortunately, I have no idea how it rides because the seals blew out of the front master cylinder, unloading it from the trailer But, silver lining, that's given me the time & opportunity to eighty-six all the tassels (there were soooo many tassels!) ditch the front fender & turn signals, & lower the rear end 2" I've got wider, flatter handlebars ordered, a pair of fishtails, air cleaner & carb jets & needles, along with a new rear fender, gas tanks, Le Pera Barebones seat (I sold the original for an obscene amount) & about 4 gallons of black paint. I'd planned on chopping & painting the original tins, but then I saw how much they sold for on ebay (significantly more than half of what I paid for the bike! ) and mine are literally unmarked. Not a single blemish in the paint, at all. This is how she's sitting as of 5pm tonight (minus the seat) About an hour after I took that, the exhaust heat shields got the matte black treatment.
  17. If it's any help, I'll be driving up to Mt Juliet via Smyrna tomorrow afternoon & if you give me $2300, I'll drop it off for ya!
