Tullahoma, TN, is there anything interesting to do there?
Handsome Rob replied to vontar's topic in General Chat
Hoselton Ventures is a pretty neat store to visit, with a pistol range if you're feeling that way inclined. London's bar for the best lunchtime burgers around. Celtic Cup cafe if you want a great cuppa joe & homemade cakes & scones in a really nice atmosphere. There are some really nice trails to walk around Tim's Ford state park, from a swift half mile to a full 15 miler. The woods are stunning at this time of year too. The drive in cinema's a good way to kill a few night hours. -
Custom stippling. On every part of the damn gun. Bleerch! A 12 round mag in a 10 round frame. Another vote for see-thru mounts. Pretty much anything tacticool.

I think I'm the oddun here. I freakin' DETEST the RealOak/MossyTree type camo. Deer don't see color & all the photo-realistic camos turn into a big, dark blob at 20yds. I like big, open patterns like Predator, ASAT &the Kuiu patterns (both the Verde & Vias) Unless I'm hunting turkey, which I don't, camo really doesn't matter much.

I have a .41, several .44s & a .45lc that are sill inferior to a .454 or .416, & even the most compact (a 2½" .44) is still a pig to carry alongside a loaded pack at 12,000' Honestly, a .44 isn't going to stop a PO'd grizzly 100% of the time. I'll be in blackie country (Colorado) & I know that nothing I can carry, short of a .500, is going to be perfect. But 230gn solids & lots of noise stand a better chance than any .380in the same size package, or a 3lb, 8" long revolver that I'm too tired to carry 24/7

My first thought was the Kahr, but I read a review & the phrase "I want to buy a gun, not rent it" cropped up a couple of times. I know there are negative reviews on everything ever made, by anyone, anywhere, ever; but the comments on Kahr .45s really stuck. My best friend had a Kahr & loves it, but I doubt he's even put a box through it in 2 years. He uses it the same way I will with a tiny .45 Backcountry bear/moose/pot farmer protection. I guess the bandwagon is popular for a reason...... Like Nissan Altimas.

I've read a lot of reviews on both. The TTAG review is very concise & made me giggle. I think I'm leaning heavily toward the XDS right now, simply due to the slimmer profile. I can't carry, but I want something slim & light for back country protection when I hunt out west. Weight & size is a big concern when I'm already carrying a 60lb pack, but out in bear & moose country I want big bore peace of mind! I guess I'll be taking a trip to the LGS this weekend to try one in hand. From the reviews though, it looks like it may be the very thing I've been searching for.

Given the choice between a Glock 36 & a Springfield XD-S Which would you go for & why? I'm looking at trading my Bond Arms .45lc for a really small .45 & I can't decide between the 2. I've never handled either, but I did like my G19 (I know, double stack, totally different) The Bond is an amazing piece of engineering & quite definitely one of the finest guns I own, but I just can't get on with the grip/trigger ergonomics. I like the smaller size of the XD-S & the limited capacity is not an issue. I also like the ease of use of the Glocks.

Meh, your loss. :screwy: Honestly. Pretty much nobody cares what you do or post on social media. Just don't post about b***ing the W*****ouse, cr***ing a comm***ial ai****ne or any ter***ist activity & you'll be fine! :x:

Guys, c'mon. Climb out from under the blankets of Right Wing Media induced paranoia & live a little! :D

Soooo........(from THAT article) "We do not provide any government organization with direct access to Facebook servers," Facebook chief security officer Joe Sullivan said in a statement. Again, if something is made illegal, I'm pretty sure you get a little warning, via every single news channel, Facebook, twitter, every newspaper, radio reports, online journals & blogs etc... Posting that I just bought a new pistol on Facebook IN AMERICA isn't even going to cause the tiniest blip on any NSA/CIA/FBI/USPS computer anywhere.
-
I'm pretty sure that nothing I will ever do will be made illegal overnight, to the point that Facebook is going to get me arrested. Ever.
-
I am nowhere near that tinfoiley. Don't care, not gonna happen.
-
And not using Facebook Messager is going to prevent that how?
-
And since when was privacy a right? I can look through your living room window, walking by on the street & know more about you than you'd like. Maybe get some tinfoil curtains to go with the hats ;)

If the NSA wants any information on me, all they have to do is ask. The point is, I have nothing whatsoever to hide. I don't even watch odd porn, just the regular stuff! :D

What rights do you think I'm giving up?

I don't think for a minute that anyone at all, anywhere, for any reason is tracking my movements, looking through my photos, checking my emails, using my camera or recording my calls. Frankly, even if they do, it's of no consequence to me. I'm not doing anything even remotely illegal at any time (well, maybe a bit of quicker-than-is-legal driving). I never go anywhere I'm not legally allowed to go. I don't photograph anything inflammatory or controversial or discuss any kind of criminal activity. What have I got to worry about?

Thompson Hawken 50 cal Muzzleloader-
Handsome Rob replied to CalRW&B's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Oh, and if you coat the bore with bore butter (or similar) for protection; before you load it to shoot, you'll need to swab & clean the barrel out with a couple of alcohol soaked patches. I use 91% rubbing alcohol myself, as it evaporates in a couple of seconds. If you don't you'll contaminate the powder & have a heck of a job getting it lit. -

Don't mean to be argumentative, but DON'T USE BOILING WATER!!! Yes, the heat will help to dry the bore, but it'll also cause flash rusting. Guaranteed. Cold or warm water, with a few drops of Dawn or Simple Green works perfectly. Also, don't use a bore brush. Get the correct sized jag & use lots of cotton patches (old T-Shirts are your friend!) Reason being, some bore brushes are simply slid & crimped into the rod threads. If one pulls loose in the barrel, being that it's only open at one end...., you'll have to get real creative in getting it back out! To check to see if it's loaded, lay the ramrod alongside the barrel, so that the bottom end is roughly ½" towards the muzzle, of the nipple. Mark the rod in line with the muzzle. Now insert the rod into the bore & your mark & the muzzle should line up, pretty durn close. If it's about ½" proud, chances are there's a ball in there, but no powder (A Bad Thing) An inch or so, & yes, it's loaded. -

Built myself a new bow for this year, plus some matching arrows. Can't wait for it to cool off a little :D

This doesn't work on fiber optics, by the way.
