  1. Hell no. I'm all for an 'actual' primitive weapon season like Colorado. No inlines, no scoped, no sabots, lock on the side.
  2. It's absolutely never been an issue in the past. Just a different box to tick on the form & a couple of extra details to fill out. I'm wondering if it's because they called it in, rather than doing it online (???)
  3. Sat at home waiting for a call now. Usually, I would have taken a couple of rifles to sight in, check over or just plain enjoy, but thinking I'd be shooting this after it was handed over I only brought one..... Yeah, a .458 Win Mag with a box of hotly-reloaded 510gn solids is not a 50 shot range toy. Between the recoil & $6/shot bill it's not a friendly gun! :D
  4. I've been sat at Terry Walden's for 4 **#!ing HOURS waiting for the INS to contact the FBI, who will then call the TBI who, if they can be bothered, will call Terry back with my clear background check, so I can pick up this damn rifle! Every check I've ever had before has taken between 2 & 5 minutes. This is starting to piss me off :(
  5. Couldn't agree more, Homie ;) I've pretty well done away with all my scoped rifles this year (the Savage 99, however, is going nowhere!) simply because; A) irons are plenty for the calibers/distances I typically hunt & B) It just feels waaaay cooler getting up close & personal. That's why I hunt strictly primitive archery too!
  6. Well, I was really hoping to be hitting the woods with a new .62 Fusil de Chasse this weekend, but it looks like it'll be next year :'( The old .54 well get another run out instead!
  7. So, as an outsider that knows literally nothing about the minutiae of American politics, how will this Republican turnover affect the country in general?
  8. I've shot black in my high wall, but for ease of cleanup & consistency I stick with smokeless.
  9. One of my all time favorites! I have a Marlin 1895 & a Uberti copy of a Winchester 1885 high wall. The .45-70 is easy to reload for & can go from mild to wild. The marlin can be had for around $650-800 The high wall for about 7.
  10. Even reloading isn't as straightforward as young think. I can't find .358 200gn bullets anywhere!
  11. Wow, I traded the rossi to another guy on here. That was 4 years ago. I have zero clue who he is. I tried searching my post & message history, but it doesn't go back far enough. If anyone knows the guy, he traded me a Belgian Browning SA .22 & a T/C muzzleloader. Shot my first whitetail with that little .357
  12. There's really only 2 for me. 1) A Ruger Scout Rifle in .223 (trade my DPMS AR.... ;) ) 2) I'd kill to get my hands on a Kreighoff .700 Nitro Express double.
  13. Oh, I do love my 336s!..... That's a '67 .44 Texan, a '71 .35RC & a '50 .30-30A When it comes to Marlin (or Winchester for that matter) levers, the older the better. Pre '64 models command a premium, but pretty well any 336 pre '97 with a JM stamp is worth owning & can be picked up for 3 bills. The .35s tend to fetch an extra hundy or so. The .30-30 (actually .30WCF) is a great round to reload with bullets anywhere from 110-200gn. Mild to wild. And despite popular opinion is a VERY capable deer cartridge way beyond 100yds. My 336a has a Williams peep & with my handloads will happily put 6 shots in a 5" group at 200yds.
  14. Also, as previously mentioned, Hoselton Ventures on Turkey Creek Church road. Not a tacticrap store, just a good, old fashioned gun shop.
  15. Best pawn shop in the area, bar none, is Tollivers in Manchester.
  16. Ummm....what's the usual cull rate on this stuff? I just resized the full 100 & came away with 79 shootable cartridges. 17 with split necks out of the resizing die & 4 further splits on seating the bullet. I know it's cheap, surplus teardowns, but I didn't expect it to be this bad. It was also filthy enough that I've got it all loaded & in the tumbler. As leery as I am of tumbling live rounds, I really wouldn't have wanted to load this into a new rifle.
  17. Anyone else noticed a proliferation of the wee bastards the past couple of days? Usually we have a few knocking around, nothing unusual, but since 5am yesterday, it seems I can't leave the house without being being covered in the little vampires! Is this a locale thing, our is it happening elsewhere?
  18. I just ordered 100 of the pre-primed Lake City cases from Midsouth. I've never used pre-primed before, I've only ever reloaded my own, fired brass. Is there anything I need to know? Should I assume it will already be sized & ready to go, our should I pull my de-priming pin & run it all through a sizing die?
  19. DAMN that went weird in a hurry! Sorry!
  20. http://images1.opticsplanet.com/365-240-ffffff/opplanet-millett-see-thru-scope-mounts-3.jpg Yep, these lads. They're just as goofy as hell. Every single levergun I've bought came with a set & not one of 'em let's me get any form of cheek weld. I can kinda see it on a gun that's sighted for 300, ish. But on a hundred yard rifle? Unnecessary. Actually, I really can't think of any caliber that would be off by more than a couple of inches at 50, if it was sighted for 300.....
