  1. What are you wanting it for? If you're looking for a long range target rig keep an eye on GOC for any long action 110, 111 etc. You can add a single shot follower to the mag & reliably single feed any long or short cartridge. A donor gun in .30-06 is favorite, just because it has the most versatile bolt-head size, but even that can be switched out in a couple of minutes. Gimme a heads up if & when you get fixed up & I'll happily help with the trigger. Also, I have details of a really, REALLY good barrel guy for around 50% the cost of a Criterion.
  2. Possibly..... It's a .223 Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  3. Don't be scared of the Axis, please! Yes, the trigger sucks. Like, out loud. But, it can be made awesome in less than 5 minutes at a cost of 'maybe? 10 cents. The stock isn't as bad as you'd think.....ish. Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  4. This is number 5 in my safe. I 'think' number 13 total in the last few years. Don't they have, like, meetings for things like this? Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  5. Imma whip a couple of inches off that butt next. 14" LOP is too much for me!
  6. So, I was in the market for a cheap coyote gun when this used Axis popped up. Crappy rattle-can stock, stock trigger (30lb of grit...) & factory Bushnell. Mind you, it was $200 so I'm not complaining & it came with 400 round of 50gn hollowpoints. Picked it up this morning & immediately decided it was too long &, well....normal. 12 o'clock & I get a 1hr lunch break so I figured "*%#$ it". Pulled the stock, removed the mounts & scope, whipped off the barrel, ran to a friend with a lathe, used said lathe to chop it to 16¼", turned a nice 11° crown, ran home, removed the trigger, replaced the stock spring, installed an over travel screw, polished the trigger & sear (3lb pull, zero overtravel. Didn't have time to fix the pre-travel. I'll live with it!), reinstalled it, screwed on the barrel, headspaced it, tightened everything up, scope on, stock on, loaded the mag & zeroed the thing (1½" high at 100yds, ¾"group) & STILL had time for a cheese sammich! Do THAT with your Remchester!
  7. I'm amazed at how linear & gentle the recoil on that STG76 is! It seems like it comes absolutely straight back.
  8. When the hell did 'combatant' become 'warfighter'?? Is it suddenly a freaking video game?!
  9. $1k is the absolute most I'd ever drop as a lump sum on a bare rifle & it would have to be something very special for that to happen. Luckily 99% of my needs are to be found in the sub-$800 bracket. My long range target rig probably has more invested in it than any other gun I own, but that was spent a bit at a time over several months. It's probably still not over $800 for the bare gun though. Mind you, I've got more than that in the scope, so probably around $1800 overall. Actually, thinking about it, I'd say the AVERAGE value of the guns I currently own is about $500. Some over, some under.
  10. Are you dead inside??? Look at it man! LOOK AT IT!! Srsly though, they're a boutique, semi custom, ultra limited run, ultralight mountain rifle. Switch caliber; .260, .308 & .358 with a sub moa guarantee that doesn't lose zero when you change caliber!
  11. I revel in my technological ignorance, but bow in gratitude to your assistance. [emoji52] Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  12. ......about $4800? Interest free. For...ummm...a few years? http://www.gunbroker.com/item/610524654

  14. I always like to meet at The Outpost, if I'm buying from north of me. If it's local; a Wal-Mart parking lot, away from the store always seems to be convenient.
  15. Oooh, that's not a good idea. If you put it in my hands, you'll probably have to gnaw my arm off to get it back! Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  16. Just out of interest, if you're ever near Tullahoma, you're welcome to take mine for a test run!
  17. Oh absolutely. Purely the length. Comparing the same load in a 24" barrel compared to the 20" I've noticed an average difference of 120fps, so 30fps per inch. Not an earth shattering difference in .308, but I do know that in my 20" 6.5x55 I lose nearer 50fps per inch (comparing it to my 32" target barrel) With lower bullet weights (even though the BC is significantly better) speed will really start to drop off quickly beyond a couple of hundred yards. I'd have to guess that a Creed would get mid-low 2600s with 140gn bullets from the LWH, at the muzzle (again, comparing it to my Swede which is a little hotter) Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  18. Oooh, I love Remmy 600s! Any chance of a piccy or two? Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  19. I think it'd definitely be more pleasant to shoot, but a lighter caliber wouldn't really overcome it's other shortfalls (loss of velocity, barrel heating quickly etc...) It also wouldn't have been suitable for my needs. As unpleasant as it'd be, if I could've bought one in .30wsm or .30saum I would have. I'm literally only using it for elk, mule deer & (fingers crossed...) sheep. I've given serious though to having it re-chambered. Another thing I should mention, regarding all ultralight rifles really; you've really got to practice with them from field positions. Holding an 8lb rifle on target, offhand, is pretty easy. Holding a sub 6lb gun not so much. It doesn't really 'hang' on the target like a longer, heavier gun does.
  20. I don't have the 16 lwh, but I do have the 11 lwh. Mine's in .308 & it's a great rifle, but it is really, REALLY picky on ammo. It's also not a range gun. 2 shots in rapid succession & it'll throw the 3rd out of the group, 100% of the time. As purely a hunting rifle, it's fantastic. I bought mine specifically for hunts out west where weight saving is a huge premium. Be aware, it is VERY lightweight. Mine comes in just a hair under 6lb loaded with the scope (Vortex 2-7x35) & the recoil is commensurate. My .308 kicks like a .300 win mag. The average speed rifle weighs around 8-9lb. This feels like nothing! I reload for it & it took a lot of work to find an accurate load. Federal Gold Medal Match was ok, but no better than 1½" at 100. The short, ultra slender barrel is kinda 'whippy' Also, be aware that you'll lose a fair amount of velocity over published data due to the lack of length. This is a lot more significant in smaller bore loads than larger (.243 will be much more noticeable) Honestly, unless you have a very specific need for an ultralight gun, 99% of folk would be happier/better served with a Weather Warrior. Not bashing the gun one iota, it's an awesome rifle, but I haven't touched it this deer season. I couldn't imagine elk or sheep hunting with anything else though.
  21. I'm fuming.... Today is my first afternoon off work in nearly 3 freaking weeks (I've got 2 out of 4 stash of sick) & it turns out that there's a family spending Christmas & New Year in the holiday cottage on my lease, meaning no freaking hunting for me I really need to put a couple more in the freezer & I'm rapidly running out of time now.
  22. 2, 7 round 1911 mags, an 18lb recoil spring & 19lb main spring. And some grips. And a holster. 500 bullets & 2000 pieces of brass. THIS is why I said I wouldn't buy one.
  23. I've killed 2 coyotes from stands, but only because they happened by. If I'm actually Coyote Hunting, I like to stay mobile. I'm never in one spot for more than a half hour.
  24. Go to Texas & hunt Aoudad & Javelina, then Florida for redfish, speck & hogs! Something's always in season somewhere!
  25. Thanks guys! The dinner menu does look spectacular! I think we'll be giving it a shot.
