Surprisingly, the trigger is excellent. As good as any Smith I've ever shot. No binding or stiff spots, no hitches or hang ups in double action. Heavy, but not unusually so. Single action is superb. Virtually zero movement at break & the perfect eight for me, right at 6lb. Best thing I did was to ditch the tiny wooden grips & replace them with a set of M200 plastic grips. Much bigger & far more controllable.

It's for a Rock Island M206. Online evidence tells me that they're fine with +P loads & is certainly beefy enough, but it's only roll stamped .38. I'd prefer not to give it a steady diet of really hot loads, although i'm sure a few cylinders every now & then won't hurt.

Not quite as ridiculous as you right now. Is called humor. Try it out sometime.

That'll work to start up. I would imagine oal & bearing surface is close enough to not make much difference.

Ammo & component availability being what it is right now, i was wondering if anyone had heard of, or had a recipe for, 180gn WFNGC cast bullets in a .38spl. I bought several hundred Cast Performance boolets for my .358 win & it turns out that it hates them. I was wondering if it was even possible to load them up for the pistol, rather than wasting or melting them down. I'm not looking for any silly +p+ loads, just an average, mid-range cartridge.

Hmmmmm....... limiting caliber options. Lots of 'manbunnery' so i'm sure it'll appeal, but no 7-08, .300wsm or 7wsm? You literally CANNOT market a LR hunting rifle without offering at LEAST a three hundred win mag!!

Any basic 3 prong, if it's for killing the flash. Witt machine SME if it's for recoil & noise.

To be honest, if you're an occasional hunter, occasional shooter & feel like one day you might like to maybe fool around at diddling some longer range gongs, the 6.5 creedmore (manbun) is the perfect choice. Factory ammo is cheap, plentiful & all of it is astonishingly good. Lots of bullet weights are available. It's low recoil, lots of rifle/component availability, inherently accurate. I mean, there's really nothing to not love about it (i still don't though......)

You don't have a lever gun.... You don't have a .30-06 & quite frankly, not having either is just damned un-American! Wha's wrong witchoo boy?! But for srslys... something in a 6.5 would fill the gap between your .308 & WM quite nicely. As much as I detest the 6.5 manbun, it's the logical choice. Personally i'd do either a 6.5swede on a modern action, or a 6.5 PRC if you're feeling froggy.

Dixie are good, Track of the Wolf are better. If you know exactly what you're needing, Ebay is best. What do you actually need? I have a few old locks & parts lying around that I've bought to cannibalize in the past. I may be able to help.

Ooh. One last thing. Im assuming that your scope budget is not included. A $200 rifle with an $800 scope will beat an $800 rifle with a $200 scope, 10 times out of 10

Savage Axis. I'm on my 6th, in one incarnation or another, & I've yet to shoot one that won't print super small groups. I couldn't say 'it's an sub moa' rifle, because honestly, very few are, despite the internet... but every one I've owned will hit a 3'x3' steel plate at 1000yds. That said, it took probably 500+ shots worth of practice, missing, math & ballistic calculations & corrections to be able to do it every time. 99% of LR shooting is down to that great big nut behind the trigger

Personally speaking, at iron sight distances i'd much rather have a .44 than a .30-30. Less recoil = faster follow ups & more of them, and in reality, the power difference at 100yds is literally a wash.

Well, the action is with ER Shaw, having a new barrel chambered, profiled & installed. I've stripped the stock & i'm on coat 10 of 40 of London Finish. A hand rubbed traditional oil. It'll probably be close on another 8 months before everything is finished. GTs Customizing reckon about a 3 month turnaround for the bluing & color case hardening & it'll be around another 3 to have the stock checkered.
