  1. Does anyone have a recoil pad grinding jig could have a borrow of? Like a complete nerk, i didn't test fit the recoil pad that came with my stock, before doing the finish work & it appears that is been ground just a hair too small. Not normally an issue, but I've invested significant time & money into this & anything less that perfect will not do. I've ordered a new, red pad & a using a jig is going to reduce my heartrate stress levels significantly!
  2. It's hot, there are no elk, I bought a co-ax press, .223 is more than enough for antelope at 400yds & we've probably lost the election. . . . Also, there are no elk. That is all, please continue......
  3. M' little cutdown 336 in .44 magnum. This will be the lastest rifle I'll ever part with. I had an octagon barrelled Rossi 92 in .45 colt that I kinda wish I had back.
  4. Yep. The are 4 of us this year with 3 antelope & 5 elk tags between us! Tough hunting though. We're at the tail end of the goat migration & it's too damn warm for the elk to be out of the high country. 64° here today
  5. Drunks will be drunks! I'll probably keep the lee setup for a specific caliber & maybe invest in one of those switcheroo mounting plate thingies, so I can change from one press to the other. I'll probably dedicate the Lee for .45-70 since all my dies are perfectly setup for it & I only have one load I use. Everything else I play around with, but that I leave alone.
  6. Just up late actually! 3 glasses of wine can't really be considered drink pudding......
  7. So, here i am in wyoming. I had to run into town to buy a tire (f@#$ you, sage brush! ) and I run into an old buddy. Long story short, after a few tacos & more than a few margaritas he offers to sell me his Forster Co Ax for $150. Kinda couldn't turn it down since it's never even been mounted....... I'm coming off a Lee single stage that's done everything I've ever needed for the last 10+years. Is there anything i need to know about this rascal that's radically different? Do i need to replace dies, shell holder's etc?
  8. It's actually not difficult, just time consuming. Even with Tru-oil, you really need to wait 24hrs between coats, sand down between every coat. You need to wet sand the first few applications to fill the grain & after 15 or so coats/days, you need to leave it 10-14 days before you can polish the gloss back to a nice satin sheen. The stock I just posted was 28 coats & is literally as smooth as glass now, but it took a lot of work. It took a lot longer, because my initial batch of finishing oil was contaminated & after 26 applications, it would no longer cure. I had to strip it all & start from scratch. I was heartbroken.....
  9. I just refinished a walnut M70 stock. 46 days start to finish. I can completely understand why folks charge hundreds for this......
  10. Get it, shoot it & hunt the hell out of it. That's what they're for man!
  11. If you have an M200 & ever feel like a straight trade for my 206, gimme a holler. I'd be real interested in that!
  12. Surprisingly, the trigger is excellent. As good as any Smith I've ever shot. No binding or stiff spots, no hitches or hang ups in double action. Heavy, but not unusually so. Single action is superb. Virtually zero movement at break & the perfect eight for me, right at 6lb. Best thing I did was to ditch the tiny wooden grips & replace them with a set of M200 plastic grips. Much bigger & far more controllable.
  13. It's for a Rock Island M206. Online evidence tells me that they're fine with +P loads & is certainly beefy enough, but it's only roll stamped .38. I'd prefer not to give it a steady diet of really hot loads, although i'm sure a few cylinders every now & then won't hurt.
  14. Not quite as ridiculous as you right now. Is called humor. Try it out sometime.
  15. That'll work to start up. I would imagine oal & bearing surface is close enough to not make much difference.
  16. Ammo & component availability being what it is right now, i was wondering if anyone had heard of, or had a recipe for, 180gn WFNGC cast bullets in a .38spl. I bought several hundred Cast Performance boolets for my .358 win & it turns out that it hates them. I was wondering if it was even possible to load them up for the pistol, rather than wasting or melting them down. I'm not looking for any silly +p+ loads, just an average, mid-range cartridge.
  17. Sweet! Now do like the rest of us, become a benefactor & put a want ad in the classifieds......
  18. Hmmmmm....... limiting caliber options. Lots of 'manbunnery' so i'm sure it'll appeal, but no 7-08, .300wsm or 7wsm? You literally CANNOT market a LR hunting rifle without offering at LEAST a three hundred win mag!!
  19. Any basic 3 prong, if it's for killing the flash. Witt machine SME if it's for recoil & noise.

  21. To be honest, if you're an occasional hunter, occasional shooter & feel like one day you might like to maybe fool around at diddling some longer range gongs, the 6.5 creedmore (manbun) is the perfect choice. Factory ammo is cheap, plentiful & all of it is astonishingly good. Lots of bullet weights are available. It's low recoil, lots of rifle/component availability, inherently accurate. I mean, there's really nothing to not love about it (i still don't though......)
  22. You don't have a lever gun.... You don't have a .30-06 & quite frankly, not having either is just damned un-American! Wha's wrong witchoo boy?! But for srslys... something in a 6.5 would fill the gap between your .308 & WM quite nicely. As much as I detest the 6.5 manbun, it's the logical choice. Personally i'd do either a 6.5swede on a modern action, or a 6.5 PRC if you're feeling froggy.
