  1. Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it! A couple of good friends have possibly found what I need & are going to mail them to me.
  2. Picked her up on here a couple of months back looking like this.... I picked up a bargain priced 1896 small ring stock on ebay (i'd love to say I did it with the intention of modifying the inletting, but honestly i'd had a couple of bourbons & screwed up....) It arrived yesterday & i set to work the gouges, chisels & rasps. Now she looks like this: I have the bolt with an old guy in Wisconsin getting the super short knob replaced with a traditional, butterknife handle. Once that's back it's going to Terry Walden to have scope mounts fitted. This has been a super simple-ish, classy, cheap project & the ol' gal is going to end up being my antelope, deer & coyote go to.
  3. Shot her with my .300blk, 110gn Barnes Tac-TX at 12 feet. Hit her in the neck & recovered the bullet from her offside shoulder. Dropped on the spot!
  4. Thank you! I really appreciate it. Thanks Mac, it really needs to be an inch or inch and a quarter. Don't worry, you'll see it. My sling swivels arrive today & other than this screw, that's the final thing.
  5. Chris, if you ever need to just hang out, get drunk & chat.... you've got my number brother. I'm here whenever, if ever you need me mate.
  6. I don't have family. I have work & I have this. I already put in 15 hours a day at work......
  7. I've tried Fastenall, Lowes, Home Depot, McMaster Carr, Hawkes Hardware & Tullahoma Builders Supply (who literally have everything ever made) & no. Stainless? No problem. Brass? Ten a penny. Steel? Non existant.
  8. Noooope. Has to be slotted, not Phillips.
  9. I guess i'm going to have to pay winchester's asking price. Sh1t.....i paid $150 for a pair of sling swivels for it. I guess 12 bucks isn't that bad'
  10. Nope. It HAS to be an oval head, not round.
  11. Been all over there, done literally all of that. Nearest I can get is Track of the Wolf & the longest they carry is 5/8.
  12. Totes random...... Do these things no longer exist? I'm trying like hell to find a single screw. #6x1" oval head woodscrew in steel. Not brass, not bronze, not stainless... just plain damn steel. I've tried everywhere & it seems like I can either buy 5000, or I can pay $12 + shipping for one. What. The actual. Hell?! If anyone has some lying around, I'd be glad as heck for one. I'm doing a custom rifle build & need one final screw for my grip cap. Winchester are asking $12.39.......
  13. Just a hair under 429 https://i.imgur.com/vZRrqdh.jpg
  14. Absolutely delicious! She has really sweet, mild fat & every cut I've tried so far has been tender. I made char siu from a tri-tip roast last week. Didn't last a day!
  15. From my understanding, the locals had been seeing her for at least 8 years. I would guess her at maybe 11 or 12?
  16. I finished bleaching the Big Gal's head last night. On the right is my previous record at 272lb taken in Alabama.
  17. I think you might be confusing the 6.8 Western with the 6.8SPC. The Western is specifically designed around 175gn+ super high BC bullets. In essence, it's a .270WSM, without any of the .270's inherent constraints (short throats) The WSM is pretty much limited to 150gn bullets without taking up masses of powder space. By moving the shoulder back, shortening the neck and making the case ever so slightly wider, powder capacity is retained, burn efficiency is improved & by partnering with rifle manufacturers, willing to increase throat length, the 6.8 pretty much retains our improved the velocity of the WSM, with a heavier, higher BC bullet. I'll admit, this is a super niche cartridge, pretty much specific to western hunters where lightweight, effective long range rifles rule.
  18. Yeah, I decided against it. Too many busy bodies.....
  19. I didn't think about that actually. I guess I should!
  20. It stopped being fun this afternoon. It took 2 of us, 3 hours to skin, split & hang it in the basement!
  21. Between Lynchburg & Winchester. They're not really around here like they are up on the plateau, but since the big tornado plowed through in 2012 & a couple of operations around here & Jackson Co. AL lost their fences, they've been a few show up here & there.
  22. She's been living in an area with a lot of dairy & beef farms. Her stomach contents were 90% cattle feed. They don't get this big on purely wild forage.
  23. 4 guys, 12 beers & knocking on a couple of farmers doors to beg the use of a tractor with a front loader!
