Two year old shoots herself with unsecured handgun.
Handsome Rob replied to Darrell's topic in General Chat
Forgive me for this question. On the face of it, I'm sure it's really, really dumb but I just don't understand something. I'm not, in any way trying to justify or forgive what happened in any way, shape or form, I'm simply trying to get some clarification. Which part of this horrific incident is criminal negligence? Leaving the loaded gun unlocked, or letting the kid get to it? I only ask, because I have several loaded & readily accessible firearms in my home (I don't have kids) & to my knowledge, that's legal. I don't know of a law saying that a child cannot legally handle a firearm (I admit, I have no idea about the adult supervision thing) Is it a combination of things? To expound..... if I were to walk into your home, in a bit of a mood. See your condition 1 1911 on the table & think "welp, there's the sign...." & deliberately off myself, would that be a straight up suicide, or criminal negligence on your part? Again, please, I am really not trying to forgive or excuse anyone in this situation, I'm honestly & only trying to figure out at what point, or in what situation several totally legal things combine to become illegal. -
Dogs. I board & groom them. When I'm not swearing at employees..... In my off time, I also process & butcher deer for folks. I'll take hogs too, both domestic & wild but I'm not a butcher or pro processor. It's just a winter side hustle.

Baldwin shoots two on movie set, accidental misfire???
Handsome Rob replied to TennesseeCamper's topic in General Chat
Kinda-ish related......ish This topic just started up today on a western hunting forum I frequent. Lots of left coas7t hunters on there. Seeing the blame-shift-difference between those guy's & you guys is HIGH-LARious! 90% of the Cali dudes are blaming the armourer, director, sound guy etc...... literally everyone BUT the guy holding the gun. There's a solid 50/50 split right now, between left-coasters & real people on who's to blame. 50% Baldwin, 50% everyone who isn't Baldwin. It's actually pretty fascinating. In a train crashing into an orphanage way. -
We basically drag sh*t out of dog hair for a living & scrape it up out of the grass in their runs. Fortune 500 we ain't. Also, I use the Eff word like it's punctuation. Have done since I was a kid. I don't become someone else during interviews or on the job (When customers aren't around. Unless I'm really familiar with them. Or they look cool. Or I'm in a bad mood. Or hung over. Or still drunk. Or think I could take them in a fight. Or I gave up caring several hours before they showed up 2 hours late for their appointment......) and I like to know potential employees are cool with it. Once we have a bit of rapport going, the fact they feel comfortable enough to throw one back at me tells me a lot about them & gives me a far better indication of how they are as a person, than what they scored on their SATs.

Coolest job interview I've ever had to do was with a young person, a couple of years ago. The Wife, staff & I couldn't honestly figure out whether I would be talking to a masculine girl, or a feminine boy. A more androgynous person I've never met in my life. I actually blurted out, during the interview "What are you?! Sorry, sorry... what's your preferred pronoun?" The answer I got was "I don't give a sh*t. My name's Andi, with an 'I' " I ended up hiring someone more experienced, but to this day I still don't have a clue! Hands down one of the coolest people I've ever met!

These definitions also & often get muddied by 'sexuality', which is an entirely different barrel of monkeys that I, frankly, don't want to start an argument over with folks I admire & respect.
-
To simplify (or reiterate) you can be male in sex, with distinctly female gender traits (caring, nurturing, socially supportive, codependent etc) or, conversely, female with male gender traits (dominating, violent, independent etc)
-
I mean, other that the simple version I mentioned.... https://www.coe.int/en/web/gender-matters/sex-and-gender#:~:text=Sex refers to “the different, groups of women and men. https://cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/48642.html https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/232363 https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/gender-identity/sex-gender-identity https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_and_gender_distinction Pick one.

Also, not to be a dick..... but it's 'sashay' unless you actually showed up, dressed like a sugar packet. I mean, it's Halloween so no judgement here.

I have zero problem with folks identifying their gender however they see fit, feel or self identify. I don't care where you put whatever part of you, in whomsoever you choose to put it, as long as they're on board. However..... folks have totally forgotten that gender & sex are completely different things. Your sex is decided by your chromosome makeup. Your gender is decided by what's going on in your noggin. Even if you're post-op transgender (you'll notice the term is now Transgender as opposed to Transsexual....) & are 100% physically a woman, you've completely changed your gender, yet retained your genetic sex. The form question is disingenuous. If you answer 'C' you may not be actually lying, just confusing sex with gender, as 99% of folk do these days; but it would be incorrect for literally everyone.

My apologies for Ridley Scott! I had a complete brain fart on that. Nope, he had nothing to do with it at all! Chuck is right, Denis Vilenueve directed this one. I can't wait for the second edition.

On HBO Max....... Sorry, totes '80s geeking out! It misses the the thought disfigured, but aside from that. My God. It's a masterpiece. Ridley Scott had totally outdone himself. I've watched the original probably 80 times & I didn't think it could be remade but damn.... this really is spectacular.

No. Shockingly terrible. Worst year in the history of ever of guns. Everyone was on strike, parts were sourced from Hasbro, utter garbage. $300 & I'll add it to my collection to save you further embarrassment. I'm honestly astonished & quite frankly, ashamed for you, for admitting it. Your gun, post & life is terrible & you should feel terrible for it.

That's what I've always used too. Super straightforward.

Recommendations for blueing
Handsome Rob replied to 10-Ring's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
It's a bit of extra work, but call Gareth at GTS customizing (307-259-9887) He's based out of Casper, WY. and specializes in restoration. He did all the bluing & care color hardening on my Winchester 70 & I literally cannot find a fault anywhere. He does metal AND furniture refinishing & is surprisingly affordable. He doesn't have a website, but can be found on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/Gtscustomizing/ -
Makes me wonder..... If you showed up in person to collect it, would you then be immediately arrested for being in possession of an unregistered (by NY law) handgun?

.45-70 is probably the round I shoot the least, yet enjoy reloading for, the most! I load subsonics (535gn GC cast over a light load of AA5744 for right on 1120fps) Sounds like a .22, kicks like.... well, like you'd expect! But my gosh are they accurate. I have Vernier sight marks out to 800yds with this load. One day, I'll shoot a pig with one just to see what happens. I'm guessing it won't be near as impressive as I imagine.

Thanks, it's a 9x57. I've not experienced any case splitting during shooting I it, I was just wondering, more than anything, if brass degraded with age. Some of this stuff is literally WW1 Era. It sized up just fine (other than the one....) & I've since annealed it before loading. I've got a few old, factory 9x57 brass, some factory loads (that I REALLY don't want to shoot) & all the rest of my brass is either 9.3 necked down, or 8mm necked up. I'm loading 46gn of 4064 (fixed irons, so I had to load to the sight. The problems I had with the .358 were all down to me not annealing the brass & then running super hot loads, right off the bat. I've not had an issue since I started being more diligent & less enthusiastic!

All the advice suggestions are awesome with 1 caveat: you NEED to have it fitted to you. And when you throw a 7 & leave it to someone, THEY'LL need to have it fitted. I've run the gamut of quality o/u shotguns over the years & I've literally only found 1 that fit me properly & no way on God's green earth could I afford it here (they're kinda cheap in the UK, not so much, stateside) Emilio Rizzini. The only double gun I've ever picked up, ever, that didn't need custom fitting. I tried to find another for my first dove season here, but sticker shock killed me! The one I had in England, I sold for roughly 1/20th of what it would bring here! Right now, I'm stuck with an old 1187 that's as reliable as a hammer, ugly as a hang nail, heavy & ungainly. But it fits perfectly & I shoot it very well. I'd love to trade it out for a nice sxs, but I'm not prepared to sacrifice efficient accuracy for classy looks & feel. And I can't justify spending the money to have a fitting done.
