The reason that most safe manufacturers use gypsum board for fire insulation in their safes is the cost. While gypsum does release a small amount of steam during a fire its not enough to damage your guns. If your safe is exposed to a prolong fire you need to clean you guns anyway so it really doesn't matter if there was steam released into the interior of the safe. Alumina or Ceramic isn't any better at protecting your valuables in your safe, if they were then the safes that did use it for fire protection would have better ratings, which they generally do not. The materials used in safe construction for fire protection have the same effect , they just require different thicknesses and construction. I also agree HSO, thicker is better on steel thickness

Adam, How about a Pint of Guinness?

Wow ! its funny how things get blown out of context, Darrell reread my post, it never says that I know everything about safes or that I'm the largest safe distributor in the southeast. I know which safes are built where and I never try and hid the fact that Winchesters or a few Browning safes are built in China, I just give my customers the facts about the safes I carry and let them make up their minds themselves, they are all intelligent people. As for us pickering back in forth , I agree with MG, it doesn't accomplish anything and yes its giving me a headache. Darrell if you want to continue this discussion give me a call , you know my number. If not I will not continue doing the " I know you are but what I'm I " argument. Soooooo, how about those Preds ?
-
If any one wants to drop by my warehouse I have the safe sitting here, what else do you want to see? As for PS I just gave you the facts about what I have seen concerning their safes, please tell me where I did not tell the truth. Just because I disagree with you about PS safes and tell you what I have discovered about the way the safe is made and where it is made you think that I'm degrading you? Well I'm finished discussing PS safes , this is not worth it to continually explain how this safe is not what it appears to be and tell you why and then you think I'm some how insulting you. Happy Trails.......
-
Adam, I thought this discussion was over, but if you insist, I have one in my showroom that I have disassembled and if you want to take a look at it I will be happy to show it to you or anyone else. I show it to everyone that comes in as an example of a cheap safe that is built poorly. I have traveled to CA to research PS aka Marlow Safe Company and if you considered that they regularly receive containers of safes from overseas and they have all of the markings of a China made safe, like what you ask ? the dry board has Chinese lettering on it, the glue they use is the same that all overseas safes use, the wood that the pallets are made of is from China, the cardboard is from China, the lock is from China. I had a customer that bought a PS safe and had it shipped to me to deliver and guess what ? it was made in China. Do you need any other proof? Like I said Adam , if you like your safe great, I just think that its not all that PS claims that it is...............
-
Darrell, Did I hit a nerve? I never have said that I'm the largest safe distributor in the southeast, I just know that you are not the largest distributor and if you were I would not care. As for not being a Fort Knox dealer, that doesn't mean I don't know about the safes and their features and warranty , I don't sell them by choice BUT if you read my post about them I have never said they are not a good safe or a good company, SO WHAT IS YOUR POINT ? I'm not attacking you Darrell just correcting your statement about being the largest distributor in the southeast. As for Browning / Prosteel safes , they do have one of the best warranties in the safe industry, how do I know this , well just call most of the major safe manufacturers in the country and ask them who does their service and warranties in the Nashville area, The Safe House. So we do know a lot about who has the best warranties and how they stand behind their safes and how well they are built, yes including Fort Knox.
-
Not a fan of the Sturdy, but all of the rest are good safes. Fort Knox is a little pricey compared to the others but a good safe. Browning has the best features and best warranty in the industry. Amsec is also a good safe, prefer their BF line over the SF and TF. MB

I'm sorry that the facts are getting in the way of your argument ! Never said I "knew" everything , far from it ! I'm just not afraid to raise the BS flag when needed. If you notice I give facts about the PS safe and actually bought one and took it apart to see how it was made. That reinforced my opinion about the poor quality of the safe and its features. I have also traveled to CA to check out their operation and it seemed pretty shady, lots of smoke and mirrors. But look Adam, if you are happy with your PS safe thats great , I have said enough about this issue , on to more positive issues.

East TN Patriot I will agree with your statement about fire ratings to a certain point ,but if on the other hand you are storing various items in your safe that are damaged at different tempertures, then a higher fire rated safe is probably a good investment. A lot of items that are stored in a typical gun safe (old pictures, collectable coins, back up disks, etc ) are damaged at lower tempertures and having a longer rated safe will keep all of your items from having any damage. Another thing you speak about in your post is the issue with RSC rated safes and the video's showing a safe being pried open and the method that is being used is unrealistic and that you would have to drop a safe on its back to get into it and that burglars are not that smart and cannot pry open a cheap safe. I will have to say that in the over 18 years that I have been in the safe business I have seen numerous safes that have been pryed open standing up, one with a long handled screw driver. Others I have seen opened used various methods and some took longer that others. I have never seen one of the high end gun safes built by a reputable company that was broken into by smash and grabbers , but have seen low end "big box store" safes popped open in a matter of minutes. One report that I saw was an individual that had all of his guns stolen out of his safe, How? well he didn't lock the door ! Always lock the door of your safe. There are no safes that someone cannot get into, it just takes time and the knowledge to open it. One other thing.......... like the Atlas Shrugged quote
-
Adam, I never said that in all of my post discussing this issue ! One thing I will continue to do is tell the truth about PS and if you keep posting incorrect statements I will continue to state the facts.
-
If you want to look at a Patriot up close and personal and see how cheap they are, just come down to our show room and I would be happy to show you one with the door panel off so you can see for your self how cheaply they are made. AND show you why they are not made in the USA? Darrell............. When did you become the largest safe distributor in the Southeast???? Guess you can put anything on the internet.......................
-
Beware of the Patriot Safe ! They list their fire rating as a 2 hour at 1880, yeah right ! they use half the amount of fire board as other safe companies that have tested their safes and have proof that their ratings are not just written down on a piece of paper. The bolt works are light gauge steel that will not hold up in a pry attack. The lock is in their words " Top Secret" but is a joke when you take the back of the door off and look at it. I could drill this safe open in under 5 mins due to it not having hard plate to protect the lock. They say their safes are made in the USA but why do they routinely get containers of safes from oversea's and when you inspect the safe it has all of the signs of a Chinese made safe. There are many better options at just as good a price, so just remember to not believe every thing you read on a website unless a company can back it up. MB

Electrical outlet kit for Liberty safe
av88tor replied to East_TN_Patriot's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
If you want the electrical connector for a Liberty Safe you need the cut out like the new safes have, if it is an older model you probably just have a hole drilled into the safe for a cord to run through. You can get an extension cord at a home improvement store and cut the end off and get a replacement plug and get the same system for around $10. MB The Safe House -
If you are looking for a small fire resistant pistol safe you won't be able to get any of the quick access pistol safes since all of them are not fire resistant. You could get a smaller safe made my Gardall its the MS911 and it runs around $299. If you have any questions you can call us at our office and we would be happy to steer you in the right directon. www.nashvillesafehouse.com We have over 150 safes in stock and we don't sell furniture or own a pawn shop, we only sell safes !

Learned my Lesson on Cheap Safes.
av88tor replied to DannyH57's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
So lets talk about the claims made by Patriot Safe, First the claims of a two hour fire rating, the fire board thickness of the Patriot safe is half the thickness of the Browning 90 minute certified fire rated safe, so how can that be ? well it can't ! How about the made in the USA claim, well why do they get containers shipped in from China full of safes? Why do they claim that their lock is "Top Secret" well I would want my lock to be top secret if it was such a piece of junk like the Patriot lock. If you would like to see the inferior construction of the Patroit safe and how easily it can be pried open just stop by our showroom. One thing I can tell you is if you visit us at The Safe House We will show you a top quality safe at an affordable price. AND if you ask we will explain why we don't carry cheaply made, low quality safes. For Example we are having a sale on the Champion Triumph 25 for only $1599, (Reg $ 1799) 90 minute fire rating, 10 guage body, 2 inch double step door construction, S & G Lock. -
There is a reason that the online companies you mention only sell on the internet ! The big reason is that they can pretty much say anything they want and no one will dispute their lies. Patriot is an overseas safe and is very cheaply made, it looks good on the outside but take the safe apart and you will see the inferior design and workmanship. I have one at my showroom if you want to come by and take a look at it and see for your self. There are better safes available at a better price. MB
