  1. Dang!! One week too late! I would love to have seen it last weekend.
  2. If you are interested in info on the class itself, there's a thread in vendor services. But, here's what I learned this weekend on equipment. Bushmaster ORC AR-15 -- The gun functioned, for the most part, flawlessly. I had one double feed malfunction, but I am quite sure I caused it with a weak charging handle pull. I did need to lube it up after about 400 rounds, but I didn't have a single gun-related issue other than the double feed. Tactical Latch (on Charging Handle) -- Well worth the effort. Although it was a pain to install (not difficult, just watch out for flying spring), it made the combat reloads easier Bushnell Holosight -- GREAT. It worked flawlessly and provided a great sight picture. I couldn't be happier with it. PMAGs -- These gave me more problems than any other piece of equipment. Admittedly, I caused a number of the problems, but clearly the PMAGs do not seat as easily as GI mags. To even get them to seat properly with a round in the chamber (ie: a combat reload), I could not load more than 27 rounds. To me, they also don't drop from the magwell as easily as the GI mags. I still like the PMAGs, but I realize they have a downside. Vickers 2-Point Sling -- This is a great sling. The ONLY issue with it is that the quick-release is on the wrong end. It adjusted length with ease and was very versatile. Ammo -- I used reloaded ammo from Wisconsin Cartridge without issue. We did have one student using Wolf in his AR and he did have some trouble. Tactical Vest -- I had a tactical vest that featured mag pockets with velcro flaps that covered the mags. I had to cut the flaps off after the first day and just relied on the elastic in the pockets to hold the mags securely. Once I did that, it worked pretty well (but it does take some practice to learn how to pull mags out of it with any speed).
  3. Yes, completely doctored picture. But, the really scary (and frustrating) part is that I've seen multiple media accounts saying the rifle is an "assault rifle." I guess any rifle that is black is an assault rifle to the libs.
  4. Thanks CR for the update. I am watching the meeting on Channel 3 (for Comcast customers) right now, but they haven't gotten to it yet. I received an email from John Hancock (in addition to the previous response mentioned earlier from Ms. Hester) that he would be voting "no." According to Ms. Hester's somewhat criptic explanation, someone had a gun in the parking lot of the criminal justice center. Unfortunately, she failed to explain why that was a problem (i.e., that an incident occurred, etc.) Even though this is now dead, I urge any of you in District 5 to let Commissioner Lewis W. Green, Jr. (the apparent sponsor) what you think of his solutions to the County's perceived problems.
  5. Okay, I'll bite. Who is Kwik? I'm not familiar with this.
  6. Directly sound of Nashville, and includes Franklin, Brentwood, Fairview, Thompson's Station, Nolensville, and part of Spring Hill. Note that Williamson County consistently is the strongest Republican county in the state with over 70% of all votes for the republican presidential candidates and congressional candidates in the last 10 years. However, even predominently Republican officials always seem to think the solution to a perceived problem is to legislate. Why people think government can solve all of our problems, I'll never understand.
  7. Please see the response I received from Commissioner Hester. For those you will be able to attend, please make her aware of your support for her vote (assuming she doesn't change it). Just in case you need to know what district you are in, here's a link to the district maps: http://www.williamsoncounty-tn.gov/DocumentView.asp?DID=115 Thank you for this excellent advice. This was resolution was the result of an individual carrying a gun in the parking lot of the Criminal Justice Center and was late filed. I will oppose this resolution from reaching the floor. I support the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of AMerica. God bless America. Betsy Hester BTW -- I should have said this earlier, but THANKS TO TUNGSTEN for notifying us of this!
  8. I have emailed the following message to both of my commissioners. I also copied Lewis Green (District 5 -- Nolensville and Triune areas -- who appears to be the sponsor of this resolution). Feel free to copy the body of the email and send it with your contact information to your commissioners. I'd suggest copying Mr. Green, as well. As a constituent of your District, I am requesting that you vote "NO" to the resolution proposing to ban guns in county buildings. Only those who have complied with the requirements of Tennessee Code Annotated Section 39-17-1351 et seq. will be affected by this resolution. That is, this resolution will fail to stop those persons who are already committing a crime by carrying a weapon in violation of state law from continuing to carry on county property. Since guns are already prohibited by state law on school grounds, in most public parks and county recreational facilities, and during judicial proceedings, this resolution is very limited in scope. The practical effect of this resolution will be less about the safety of Williamson County citizens and more about the philosophy of those who vote for it. However, I do not see an exception in the resolution for the gun shows at take place regularly at the Ag Expo. This resolution, if passed, will do nothing to prevent crime or further ensure the safety of Williamson County citizens. Rather, this resolution appears to be an attempt to restrict (as much as possible by a county commission) the otherwise lawful rights of Williamson County citizens and to drive out the local gun show. Should you support this resolution, you should expect strong opposition in your next election.
  9. Does anyone know a store that carries 5.11 Tactical clothing in Nashville?
  10. OS - I'll check the mag. The mag that came with it had the pinkie extension on it, so I don't use it (this is purely a pocket gun for me). I only used FMJ in that mag. I bought a second mag without the extension and this is the one giving me problems. But, I haven't checked it (duh!). I'll do that tonight. Thanks for the thought.
  11. Unfortunately, I'm using this method to chamber the first round. But, when I release the slide lock, it hits the back of the round and stops. It does not chamber the round. If a then hit the back of the slide, it will chamber. However, it seems that the "lip" of the hollowpoint hangs on the feed ramp. I'll look into polishing the feed ramp and will contact Kahr. Thanks.
  12. That sounds like my problem, but my serial number isn't in the batch. Nevertheless, thanks for the information. I'll have to call Kahr and see if they'll fix it. Only problem is I am not the original owner.
  13. I guess with current news reports, the Weather Underground Organization (with Obama supporters who were prominent members) would come to mind. Also, the Animal Liberation Front, the Earth Liberation Front, the Black Liberation Army (an element of the Black Panthers), the Symbionese Liberation Army, and the Armed Forces for Puerto Rican National Liberation (the "FALN"), not to mention a long history of violence in relation to union organization activities. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_terrorism_in_the_United_States There's also this list, including the 2004 killing of two Christian missionaries in SF, the church killing in Colorado in 207 (how quickly the left forgets), and a number of incidents involving "neo-Marxist" gangs. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2052662/posts http://cofcc.org/?p=641 http://cofcc.org/?p=524
  14. My PM9 generally runs well, but my hollow point ammo hangs up when I rack the side. If I hit the back of the side, the round chambers properly, but the fact that it hangs up (ie: the side doesn't close and round stays in the mag) bothers me. I'm concerned that this may lead to bigger problems later. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this or has an idea on fixing it.
  15. I'm not sure this fits the bill, but you might like it anyway (particularly if you like James Taylor). http://www.jimcoleonline.com/store.htm For a good preview of his music, scroll down to the "Live in Cincinnati" CD and click on "I Can Trust in You" and "Wayward Son". Just to see how much like James Taylor he really sounds, also click on "You've Got a Friend".
  16. Keep in mind that "subduing" someone, even non-lethally, is at best false imprisonment and at worst kidnapping. The best action is to prepare the daughter to defend herself. If she's old enough to get a HCP, tehn do it. If not, look into legal alternatives. I know the Franklin PD is putting on a rape prevention class in the next few weeks. Something like that would be a start. She has to take self-defense seriously. Even the father can't be around all the time. People like this dont change by putting the fear of God in them. They generally have to move on to someone else. Midtennchip The resident lawyer
  17. Well, it turns out the gun is not a S&W. After looking at it more closely, it is a Colt Police Positive .38 Special. I checked the serial number and it appears to be a 1929 model. The gun is close to perfect, with the one exception being a bit of tarnish on the small Colt medallion on the handle. With a little bit of jewelry cleaner, I think that will look good, as well. Now, despite the concerns expressed here, we did shoot the old ammo today. After looking at the box, I think the ammo was made in the early 1960s. Nevertheless, it fired flawlessly. Obviously, I would be more concerned if we were firing it in a semi-auto, but we didn't see much chance of a catastrophic failure in a revolver. Bottomline, my stepfather will keep the old ammo (but store it correctly) for an emergency, but will buy new ammo going forward.
  18. HCP arrived today (day 80). However, I did NOT call the Department of Safety. I was planning on calling on Monday.
  19. I only handled it for a moment on Sunday, but it did say "Police Special" on the barrel. My grandfather had a S&W "Police Special" that my cousin inherited years ago (before I caught the gun bug). I'll try to take some pictures this weekend. I agree not risking it is the best option, but the ammo did look to be in good condition. However, it hasn't been stored properly (ie: just kept in the closet -- no cans, no humidity condition, etc.).

    any H&k guys?

Yes, I love my P30. Accurate and great ergonomics.
  21. Joining the party late, but most of my comments will just repeat others' comments: 1. Acknowledge the customer; it's NOT enough to just look in his direction (which seems to be a trend in some of the Metro Nashville shops). 2. Once the customer stops and looks at a particular gun or guns, just state that you'll be glad to pull it out of the counter (ie: not too pushy, not to standoffish -- if that's a word). 3. Ask the customer's name AND introduce yourself once the customer engages your help. 4. Realize that some customers (I know this one was stated earlier) are slow to buy. I will NOT buy a gun the first time I look at it. In fact, I may want to look at it 3 or 4 times before buying. I try to do this at the gunshow rather than bothering the local shops, but sometimes that the only way. 5. Just be nice. I can't tell you how many times a salesman has handed me a gun and acted like I was wasting his time or just ignored me. If you'll just talk casually, most customers will appreciate it. 6. As others have stated, price it correctly. I'm willing to pay SOME additional amount for local service, but I'm not paying through the nose! (Example: a local shop had my P30 priced at $999 (recently dropped to $899), but an online dealer had it at $729 including shipping.) Joe -- the cases are actually a great idea. Being able to see the gun up close is ALMOST as good as holding it. Just make sure you are quick to offer to open the case (which I'm sure you will).
  22. My stepfather inherited a 6" .38 Police Special from his father (who we understand inherited it from his father). I have no idea when it was made or the exact model, but it appears to be in great condition. We haven't shot it yet, but I did have a question for those in the know. He also inherited about 200 rounds of Winchester .38 Special that must be 30 to 40 years old. Other than looking a bit tarnished (like any other old piece of metal), the rounds appear to be in good shape. QUESTION: Would you shoot any of the rounds in the revolver?
  23. Joe, those were almost exactly my thoughts, with the exception of the balance. Before shooting it, I thought the foreend was a bit heavy, but I really didn't notice it that much while shooting. The gas piston thing is new to me, but I did notice that it ran significantly cooler than the AR (as it is supposed to, I guess). Regardless, it is a nice feeling rifle. Those at the CIS class next month are welcome to shoot it if there's time.
  24. No, this one did not have iron sights. However, many people buying the SWAT or Commando version are selling their front sight (which is unique to the SIG 556 with only Sampson making an after market version). I bought one for $20 yesterday. I already have rear flip sight, so I hope that will work well.
  25. No, it has a short-stroke gas piston. Yes, it does have that plastic look to it, but only if you get the standard handguard. If you upgrade to the SWAT model, it doesn't have that look. I just wasn't paying the additional money on this one.
