If you really want to try an instinctive red dot, I recommend the ACSS Vulcan system offered in the Holosun's sold at Primary arms. The huge outer ring reticle drives you to the chevron. It has to be seen to be appreciated.

Glad you're here with me my frend! -
Thank you. I believe I looked up the serial number and it was from the 90's. I do like your idea of the peep sights...thank you for recommending that. I have peeps on my mini-14 and I shoot that just fine out to 200yds

Welcome to the escape. Where in California did you escape from? I am assuming since you're in Franklin you did wayyyy better on selling your house than I did -
Greetings everyone. My father in law gave me his Winchester 94 30-30 knowing it will get the time afield that he is unable to give it. (He's 83!) My question is, I know most hunting, from what I have heard, is relatively close in here in TN but my eyes aren't what they used to be. Has anyone had success mounting a scope on this particular rifle and, if you have, can you make product recommendations? I truly appreciate your input.

Nothing quite like a mini "flying ashtray" thrower!

Geez I wish I still had eyes that could see 1000 yards with a scope!

As someone who has taught both defensive pistol shooting and red dot classes, I tend to argue against lasers on EDC's. As previous posts have said, generally self-defense shootings are SO CLOSE and personal that they generally devolve into point and shoot scenarios. With a laser dot, you may get a scenario that I often see with new red dot shooters and that is the phenomenon of getting "sucked into the dot" (As Jedi would put it) What this means is that instead of being "target focused" you are looking for where that pesky red beam of light is. This slows down your natural reactive shooting as now you are looking for that "perfect" dot placement as opposed to trusting your instincts and natural point of aim. One thing I have noticed in myself as both a teacher and a student of the gun, I find my natural point shooting and even my shooting with open sights seems to have improved since I began shooting with optics. It is almost as if the optics force to focus on the basics and this translates over to non optics.

What range bag are you guys using?
TheFiveO replied to Thursty's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have two , depending on what my day has in store for me. If I am just shooting one caliber, I have a smallish one from Bass Pro "rangemaxx" and it fits a few hundred rounds of ammo, stapler, eyes, ears etc just fine. If I am shooting multiple calibers and guns, I tend to take my range bag from First Tactical. It was designed by the same guy who designed the one for 5.11. (I know, I used to be a FT rep) -
Welcome back sir! Glad to have you.

Welcome from a fellow recent TN transplant as well. There are a lot of great people here.

I am definitely interested in this as I am looking for a EDC for the wife who has hand strength issues. I am not too terribly far as I am in Cookeville. That being said, I am a new guy here so not sure how to reach out to you . I had some of my students bring one of these to my class in California where I was an instructor and it was the SOFTEST shooting gun I've ever felt. -
Putnam County Sheriff carrys Glock 19 with many officers carrying their own Stacattos. I am shocked, looking at this list, how many agencies are still beholden to the 40.

I'd gladly join you all as would my better half.

I am holding off on the Nocturne for now, but I know the Honest Outlaw was able to diagnose the issue as using too long of screw on the extractor side of the red dot. Gabe Suarez posted a video regarding having the same issue. Once the shorter mounting screw is installed, the problem disappears. It would be neat to see CZ come out with a ZEV post style mounting system but I know if that do that it will probably alienate those that prefer something other than RMR mount.

If this shows the long term reliability of the Glock 19, I think it's a worthy addition. As someone who has a permanent Glock bite scar, I appreciate the improved ergonomics and the factory RDS ability
