Ron Ramsey on 2013 "Parking Lot" Bill status
GKar replied to Worriedman's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
How does "no right to even be on your property" equate to the actual language of the bill? -
Nice looking rifles you got there. You will most definitely enjoy the range time! Just a warning...400 may not be enough. I was amazed how fast I ran through a can of 200. Ordered two from CMP earlier this year - extraordinary service! Both arrived in far better shape than I anticipated given the grade criteria. A 1+/2 service grade SA that was 95% matching, and a 1/1+ HRA service with beautiful furniture. CMP no longer has the requirement to have shot a High Power match.

Just for s***s and giggles, here's a paraphrased (because I dont have access to the original at this moment) explanation of the views one legislator expressed to me... -------------- I see it as a property rights conflict where we are struggling with the real-world dynamic tension that results from the interface of competing interests both grounded in the exercise of "rights": the real property owners' argument RE their ability to set rules for what is allowable on/in their 'physical space' versus the competintg interest (in this case) of the ability of a person to possess an otherwise legally possessed item within their vehicle (their "personal property") that otherwise has permission to occupy said real property save the matter at hand. Do real property rights necessarily trump personal property rights in an instance where those may find themselves in conflict? In my opinion, we (the legislature) have already set a precedent there of saying 'no', in that we have extended the legally defensible use of deadly force to personal property (a privately owned vehicle vehicle) without regard to the location of that personal property/vehicle. In an ideal world, we would not have such conflicts; due to many factors we are not afforded that luxury. As such, I believe it then the proper objective of the legislature to make every attempt to resolve such conflicts, and I am not opposed to our extending that strictly-defined "personal property bubble" to include the otherwise legal possession of a firearm in a privately-owned vehicle. ---------------- I know there are several folks here who hope this person is not their legislator... -

Back to the OP, and a question for WM: what parts of the bill as it actually appeared in the record in the 107th GA do you believe would not reappear in an "RR" version (playing off his comment RE "gun rights advocates will not get everything they want either")? Without reproducing the whole thing here, the following seem to be the salient points from the archived records for HB3560/SB3002... 1) a business entity, or owner, manager, or legal possessor of real property, or public or private employer may not establish, maintain, or enforce a policy or rule that prohibits or has the effect of prohibiting a person’s transportation or storage of a firearm or ammunition when the firearm or ammunition is kept from ordinary observation within teh persons attended privately-owned motor vehicle or is kept from ordinary observation and locked within the trunk, glove box, or interior of the person’s privately owned motor vehicle or a container securely affixed to such vehicle, and 2) the vehicle is operated or parked in a location where it is otherwise permitted to be, and 3) the person possess a valid handgun permit authorized by 39-17-1351. Also, there were provisions regarding allowing civil action against a business, entity or owner by a person who is injured or incurs damages because of a violation of the above prohibition, recovery if an employee is discahrged for a violoation or a policy or rule that contrasts the above prohibition, and a relief form liability for business entity/owners if theft of a firemrm from a proper storage leads to damages, etc. -

Perhaps the best ending to this lovely discourse was alluded to earlier: if a "parking lot" bill is introduced into the next legislative session, and it contains proposals that are objectionable to some, then those that are so adamantly convinced that such is a bad bill should expend the same amount of energy that's been exhausted within this and similar threads over the last year into efforts directed at the legislators...you know, those people that can actually DO (or not do) something about it. In the meantime, those who believe it is a step in the right direction can continue to do the same...and save a hell of a lot of bandwidth. -
Ran about 150 M-22s thru a new Ruger 22/45 today with nary a hiccup. Will be goin back to the range over the next week with a 10/22, CZ 452 and a Colt Woodsman, and will run quite a few M-22s thru those. Bought these at Wally World - $45/1K.
Has always been the crux of the debate. "Parking lot" bills only address keeping a firearm in your own property, while it temporarily occupies space on another's property. And deals almost exclusively with public and/or business property. Private property rights are not absolute, and certainly public/business property owners already cede many of the options available to the residential property owner, so the precedent there is well established. Which is why none of the statutes passed by other states in this matter have been overturned. - OS
This. -
Like Bristol, TN deciding to nuke Bristol, VA. - OS
There's been a time or two...

WM - is the vote for Speaker Pro Tempore a public one, or does it too fall behind the revered cloak of secrecy? If the latter, that's one tough row to hoe. RE the parking lot bill - any ideas who might be inclined to bring such bills in each house? As suggested by the Matheny situation, seems there's a lotta whipped pups on that side...would be interesting to see who Harwell et al would choose to do the lifting. Shipley has on occasion stated that he would be in support of such...maybe it might be time to light a fire under him and see if he will put up. Unfortunately, my rep is useless as t**s on a boar hog when it comes to this: Lundberg is the penultiimate corporate stooge. RR sure as heck aint gonna sponsor such on his side of the aisle, but finding a Senate sponsor shouldn't be too hard...just please, Lord, dont let it be Campfield. -

Interesting, WM. The fence comment is in line with something he said to me back in the spring (pre-April), but then backpeddled on later. I did hear that he complained to Wayne LaPierre about the whole deal with TFA and Maggert's defeat (apparently ascribing a considerable amount of blame to the NRA lobbiest that worked in TN last spring), and Wayne supposedly said he'd look into it...but have heard nothing further. He was decidedly PO'd at John et al, and I bet that doesnt subside anytime soon. -

Worriedman - what then differentiates the features of the amended bill that died on the floor in April from those he delineated in conversation with you in September? As I've said on another forum, this would seem to be course correction #2 (or maybe #3) in his wanderings on this topic. -
At $31.95/box of 50 from SG, the price point for the current Ranger T-series RA45T is pretty much in line with several other offerings. I've used them in a Springer Micro Compact with no problems, while other HPs gave a few feed issues with that short, steep ramp. 9mm (RA9T, 147 gr) looks to be going for $27.95/50 ($269.50/500), which is in line with that for Hydra-Shok, Golden Sabre, Critical Duty, and a bit less than Critical Defense.

And here comes Al Gore riding to the Obasm's defense...claiming it was the altitude in Denver's fault: Let's see here: Clingmans Dome is at 6643 feet, and Mt Mitchel is around 6680. Folks visiting there seem to do just fine and have total control of their faculties, even managing to drive without incident. Guess we'd better hope Obammy never visits the Smokies, huh...he might forget to breathe.

Kingsport BMA and parks: whaddya thinkin??
GKar replied to GKar's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The Kingsport BMA voted unanimously to keep city parks, greenbelt, etc open to legal carry. Apparently, their phones rang off the hook yesterday. http://tablet.olivesoftware.com/Olive/Tablet/KingsportTimesNews/SharedArticle.aspx?href=KPT%2F2012%2F10%2F03&id=Ar00104 What I find interesting in the article is the assertion that it was not the intent of the Parks and Rec Adv Cmte to have carry banned in city parks: 3 years ago, that same body voted unanimously to recommend banning firearms in all parks and associated areas (a ban which was supported by police chief Gale Osborne). That recommendation was also defeated by unanimous vote by the BMA. -
So, three uneventful years after choosing not to opt out of carry-in-parks, what prompts this? And why try to sneak it in the back door? http://tablet.olivesoftware.com/olive/Tablet/KingsportTimesNews/SharedArticle.aspx?href=KPT%2F2012%2F10%2F02&id=Ar00100

Lots to say here...starting with "the writer of the linked article probably should stick to photography". There's more misinformation/disinformation in that tome than we get from the White House in a week. How do I know? I was associated with the manufacture and testing of such products for several years in a former life. As far as the vaccine giving you an active case of influenza: aint gonna happen. The procedures utilized to inactivate the influenza virus particles and extract the lipopolysaccharides that make up the actual vaccine have been shown to have the capacity to kill approximately 48 log greater concentrations of virus than are used in manufacture (think 48 zeroes after a "1"). Greater safety margins can't be found anywhere. And the lots of monovalent antigen that result from that inactivation/extraction process are routinely tested for the presence of residual amounts of the chemicals (ie, formaldehyde, ether, etc) used: and the limits for detection of those chemicals is way, way below acceptable exposure levels to those agents (you have far greater exposure to formaldehyde from materials used to make your mattress than from a lifetime's worth of flu vaccinations). What some folks do experience is a heightened immunologic reaction to the vaccine antigens - can give them "flu-like" symptoms that are much milder than those of true influenza. And a hint about true influenza infection: its bad-ass. You feel like you've been hit by every car in a mile-long train. Respiratory symptoms aren't all that great in most - its the systemic phase of the disease that's evil. Joint aches, muscle pains in places you didnt now you had. Higher fever than with most respiratory illnesses, dry non-productive cough, headache that lasts for several days. This disease still kills around 25,000 Americans in an average year...and while pneumonia is indeed the primary fatal sequalae, a pneumonia vaccine is not likely to be effective, because that vaccine is only directed against one type of bacterial pneumonia (Strep pneumoniae), and that is often NOT the causative agent of a fatal pneumonia secondary to influenza. There are many other viral respiratory diseases that are prevalent at the same time of the year as influenzae in North America: parainfluenza, certain adenovirus strains, RSV, rhinovirus, etc. Depending on the exact strain, these may result in symptoms that somewhat mimic influenza, and likely account for a significant proportion of the accounts of illness patient associate with the influenza vaccine. There are no effective vaccines for these other viral agents: handwashing and good hygiene are your best protection. Effectiveness of the vaccine: as noted, the makeup of the vaccine is determined based upon worldwide monitoring of emergent and persistnt strains in populations known to be reasonable predictors of disease in North America (pacific rim in particular). Significant mismatch has not occurred in the past decade, as predictor models and techniques get better...but, we are fighting a living agent and that is always fraught with the possiblity of mutations, etc. That said, cessation of widespread vaccination would be disastrous: what many folks who dont take the vaccine dont realize is that they are the beneficiary of "herd immunity" - a phenomena occuring with infectious disesase prevention wherein widesprad prevention (ie, vaccination) programs prevent the epidemiologic infection rate from reaching a "critical mass" of the populace, and thus widespread transmission is avoided. If you are reasonably healthy and do not live in a confined area with numerous close contacts, such herd immunity may be quite efective. However, in institutions such as prisons, nursing homes, schools, etc, it is necessary to have a much higher vaccination rate in order to keep widespread infection from occurring. Lastly, everybody responds differently immunologically to the vaccine. About 80% of the population responds to the traditional vaccine forumlation (15 micrograms of hemagglutinin per strain represented) by developing protective immunity within 4 weeks or so of vaccination, and lasting about 3-4 months. If you are in poor health, are over 65, or have other health issues that typically depress antibody formation, you may not see sufficient immunity develop, or it may not last as long. No, I'm not a doctor...nor do I derive any financial gain from flu vaccinations. But I have seen this disease kill too many folks that might have been saved if others hadn't bought into misinformation and speculation to stand by and let it go unchallenged.

147gr Win Ranger T series for the 9mm. Also use their .380 and .45 T series where applicable.
-
Check out sgammo.com...they usually carry Winchester Ranger SXTs for .380. Run great thru several different guns we've tried. Plus, most of the time, they are considerably less expensive per round than most other HPs ($30/box of 50) http://sgammo.com/product/winchester/50rd-380-auto-acp-winchester-ranger-t-series-hollow-point-ra380t

I've had two things confiscated by TSA: a pair of 4" curved hemostats and a USA flag pin that was on my jacket lapel. I obviously had plans to grab the pilot by the 'nads with the hemostats and then use the sharp end of the pin to prick him to death... Having flown both commercial and private a fair amount, two things come to mind: 1) quite frankly, private flight has a much bigger chance of a bad ending than commercial, and 2) how have the Israeli's managed without a TSA (sarcasm here)?

Exactly why I like using habanero, Scotch Bonnets and their cousins instead of cayenne, jalapeno and the like. Their heat doesn't obliterate other flavors. And yeah, really good Thai will send you to the creek for a prolonged stay...used to work with a girl that would bring Thai dishes for lunch, and she'd make enough for an army. I loved em, but the rest of the department couldn't hack it. Capsaicins = endorphins...and that's a good thing!

Last one in Kpst used a 25 yd range at the KOA Kampground, IIRC. Don't know if this counts, but you might consider Kettlefoot GC in Bristol, VA. If interested, PM me...I'm a member there, and will find the hook-up.

Good stuff! Have grow habs and red Scotch Bonnets on and off for years. I've actually had the best results putting them in pots, sitting the pots on large stones in the back yard (keeps the roots warmer earlier in the year, it seems). Another storage option is to put them in a zip-loc freezer bag, squeeze all the air out and pop em in the freezer - since most of the time you do not care about the consistecy of the flesh (rarely are they eaten raw, sliced or whole), this works well. I've kept them a year or more this way, just taking out how ever many I need at a time and putting the rest back in the freezer. That mango/habanero combination is my favorite as well, followed closely by pineapple/habanero. Gonna have to give the mango nectar recipe a try - sounds good. I've aso seen a recipe for an ice cream topping using honey/ginger/habanero...amazingly good!

Bristol Tenn. and Bristol Va. getting Bass Pro and Cabela's
GKar replied to waynesan's topic in General Chat
Which would make them pretty much like every other store in the area during race week. Apparently, there was quite a bit of "Here, stick this in your eye" when it came to timing of the Cabela's announcement - which was the day before BPS was due to ceremoniously break ground on the Bristol TN site, since a bunch of the BPS folks are in town for the race. And mysteriously enough, Cabela's commercials ran with incredible frequency during last night's broadcast of the truck race (which featured a BPS-sponsored truck that ironically ran out of gas on the last restart). -
Couple hundred rounds thru the wife's 938 so far...no issues at all with hardball or SXTs.

Harwell's sudden close-knit ties with Ramsey are enough to set off the warning bells in my head...along with her "no" votes against overturning Bredesens vetoes of the restaurant bill. She and McCormick both need to be releveed of leadership roles and relegated to the broom closets...anyone notice McCormick's late-in-the-game attemtp to pull Maggarts' buns outta the fire by suddenly announcing that he was actually responsible for the failed Safe Commute bill (the disingenuity of which was quickly apparent, as the esteemed Governor also made the same claim at vurtually the same time)?
