TN State GOP leaders reluctant to reopen gun debate
GKar replied to runco's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
LOL. A few days ago, one state rep objected to Facebook speculation that this issue was an example of "follow the money". I asked him if it were indeed true that money was not being spent by either side in lobbying the issue, would it hold the priority with legislators that is does today...he hasn't seen fit to reply. -

The stated opposition has nothing at all with it being an election year...rather everything to do with the Establishment Rs kowtowing to big business interests and the Chamber of Commerce. -

Yes, all of the firearms-related bills taken up by Sen Jud cmte today were rolled at least a week. Hope the same thing happens tomorrow in House Consumer and Human Resources subcmte... -
New Gun Bills--Pre-emption for local parks
GKar replied to dawgdoc's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
SB 1496 (Campfield - permits a person with a handgun carry permit to carry a firearm in any state, county or municipal park or other recreation area; deletes provisions allowing local governments to prohibit carrying in parks by resolution or ordinance.) was rolled one week. SB1496: http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/108/Bill/SB1496.pdf Other firearms bills rolled today were SB1182 (Campfield - prohibits employers from inquiring about an applicant's lawful ownership of a firearm; prohibits an employer from conditioning employment on lawful ownership of firearm; confers immunity on businesses when permit holders store firearms in vehicle on business parking lot.) for one week and SB0495 (Green - requires the department of safety to provide a method for handgun carry permit holders to notify the department electronically on the department's web site of any change in the permit holder's principal place of residence.) for three weeks. Links below if interested. SB1182: http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/108/Bill/SB1182.pdf SB0495: http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/108/Bill/SB0495.pdf -

Well, this one lasted all of 6 posts before getting littered with the usual moaning and b******g from predictable sources. Your objections and platitudes have been well-documented throughout many pages...what seems absent is any real actions stemming from those thoughts. This particular thread tries to deal with a particular bill under consideration presently before this session of the GA . Perfection? Far from it. Shows the work that some have tried to accomplish to improve the landscape incrementally? Definitely. Better than the other alternatives also actually being considered? That's what we're trying to discuss (note the title - "This is better" - not "this is great", nor "We've reached nirvana") Don't like it? Yeah, we already knew that before you told us - again. Try starting your own thread describing your attempts to obtain CC in the current legislative session - I promise that I, and many others, will not troll it with our observations. Wish ya luck, even!! But until then... -
http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/108/Bill/HB1667.pdf "As introduced, protects the right of a person to transport and store a firearm or firearm ammunition in a privately owned vehicle; prevents any owner, lessee or manager of real property from taking adverse action against a person transporting or storing a firearm or ammunition; creates a civil cause of action for damages" Expands the definition of personal property to "mean any item that is lawfully owned or possessed by a person and includes, but is not limited to, firearms or firearm ammunition." States that "An individual who is lawfully in possession of a motor vehicle or an occupant of a motor vehicle may transport and store in such motor vehicle any item of personal property." Hopefully, action on McCormick's inferior measures will be delayed in the House until this one can be considered.

Green withdrew these three. Has has now collaborated with McCormick(?!?) on the following similar bills: http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/108/Bill/SB1700.pdf http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/108/Bill/SB1701.pdf Interestingly, it seems the House is moving quickly on these - possibly to try and head off any more comprehensive fixes that the triumvirate might find objectionable. These are simply band-aids...little, tiny band-aids. Just enough so that Ramsey (who has already said he thinks last years bill is fine as is) and cronies can posture as throwing a pittance to those pointing out the problems with last years bill, while doing nothing to significantly irritate the money that's calling the shots. That's the only rational reason McCormick suddenly showed up on the scene. Strangely quiet on all this is last year's House sponsor...wondering if he's just feeling his 'nads caught in a vise, or if he really swallowed Ramsey's line last year...

Sen Mark green has filed 3 bills addressing specific issues of last year's sorry-a**ed parking lot legislation: SB 1440 - defines "privately owned motor vehicle" for purposes of the type of vehicle in which a handgun carry permit holder may transport and store a firearm or ammunition in a parking lot http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/108/Bill/SB1440.pdf SB 1441 - excludes "incidental exposure" from the definition of "ordinary observation" for purposes of lawfully storing and transporting a firearm or firearm ammuniiton in a parking lot http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/108/Bill/SB1441.pdf SB 1442 - broadens scope of handgun permit holder's right to transport and store a firearm or firearm ammunition in certain motor vehicle parking lots without criminal liability under Tennessee law to include parking lots in which firearms are expressly prohibited by federal law http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/108/Bill/SB1442.pdf Be interesting to see who supports...even more interesting to see who stands in the way. In particular, Jeremy Faison...

Heading out tomorrow for "our first time together"...I'll be sure to bring flowers, but I think she is gonna provide the smokes... Thanks for the link. Yeah, I've heard about FN's serial number practices in the early days. Pistol seems in really nice shape - fit is good and tight. Bore is nice and bright, good definitions. Some holster wear on the finish, but not bad at all. Grips are in good shape - no cracks, etc, and have the original marks on the "red" insides.

Wally World in Bristol, VA had Winchester Wildcat .22 tonight. Looked like at least a dozen boxes. Couldn't see the price (all their ammo is in a case behind the counter, and out of bifocal range), but a guy in front of me had two or three boxes and I think I heard the clerk tell him "Seven dollars" and change. This is significant only in the fact that this WM never, ever has any desirable ammo - they have had the same few boxes of 7mm and .270 for the last year or so...so much so that even the clerk was aghast. Said "I have no idea where that came from or why we have it"...

Picked up a FN Belgian Hi-Power earlier in the week. FN Herstal stamping (not Browning) on LS of the slide, with the thumbprint notch on the RS of the slide. S/N is five digit 30xxx, matching throughout. Has the "lion over P.V" proof marks, along with an inspector's mark "star over M". Internal extractor, fixed sights, no stock slot, round skeletonized hammer. I'm thinking maybe early 50's - anyone here got any experience dating these things? Yeah, I know...without pics...

Harvard Study Causes Media Blackout On Gun Control
GKar replied to raydog1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Oh, I had a taker. Even acknowledged the conclusions of the study, but couldn't get off the "but we still must do SOMETHING" platitude...of course, she couldn't provide any specifics of what should be done, other than it must be legislative. -

TN AG: Cities can ban firing weapons

Article doesn't say who requested the opinion...that might be more interesting than the opinion itself. -
Of late, been starting dry-rubbed ribs at 225 for three hours, then kicking them up to 275 or so for another 2 - 2.5, spritzing them with apple cider/cider vinegar every hour. Start testing them with the tear test at 2.5 hours after ramping the temp up. When they are ready, I glaze them with sauce, lay em flat on the top rack of the smoker, and let them go another 15 mins or so to set the glaze. Usually do at least three full racks in a smoke.
-
Definitely gotta try the mango/habanero glaze...right up my alley. With the WSM, I don't hafta soak wood chunks. Air flow control is real good, so I can keep em smoldering without having to wet them. Find that hickory by itself can be overpowering and actual leave an unpleasant aftertaste, so started mixing it with other woods. Have access to a fair amount of free hickory, apple and oak (can cut my own on FIL's property). Guy that works a tree service in Kpst also supplies smoker woods from their scrap, so pecan and cherry come in at a decent price. Learned my lesson on the Match Light deal long ago. Use nothing other than Kingsford Original and a chimney starter for the smoker.
