A well written piece for a change. And, yes, quite a different point of view from two gun stores. I guess if there was a Mahoney car lot, the employees would have walk to work even if they owned a car.

I usually don't wear reflective stripes on a nice clear day but I, too, have dual headlights and I'm nearly as big as a Volkswagen. DayGlow orange or green are useful in the daytime. At night, or even a dark day, I'm lit up like a Christmas tree. The reflective stripes can be seen from a very long distance. I was hit by a car at dusk in the 80s. A year and a half to recover. I do all I can to prevent that from happening again. I'll trade the bada$$ biker look for keeping all of my appendages anytime.

I have a friend that's an instructor for the Tennessee motorcycle course and I've reviewed the material. As a former motorcycle safety instructor myself, I would recommend taking the course. It's a good course. There's no substitute for experience but it helps to get a good safe start. It's surprising how many people will get on a bike with no training or experience and jump into traffic that would make me uneasy in my truck. Many years ago, while a motorcycle safety instructor in the military, I had a guy fail the riding part of the course. Passing the course allowed you to ride on the installation. He was killed riding on a nearby highway the weekend after he failed the course. Too much bike, too little experience. I'm not judging anyone's ability here. I'm saying that taking the course is not a bad thing and could save your life. Even if you are an experienced rider.

The poll next to the story asks "Should individuals with handgun permits be allowed to carry their weapons where they work?". Again, it seems they are trying to make people believe this is the issue being discussed in the story. I admit, it is related. By the way, "yes" is ahead by a large margin.

HCP limited to a particular weapon?

Carry two if you want -
The worst is behind you. Shame on you if you have another...ever. Good job! You can do it.

Whatever you get, it's inevitable that you'll soon want to add something else. I decided long ago, I don't trade or sell firearms. I just add them. It seems no matter what I get, my want list keeps getting longer. If you can make a mental list of all your firearms, you don't have enough.

No reflection on you, Mike.357, I'm sure you wouldn't wish a SHTF event on us, but me, well, is it wrong to dream of a SHTF event? I keep thinking that if the SHTF, I'm going to have an advantage over most, as would, probably, many here on TGO. Just thinking out loud. Am I alone with this?

Looks like another addition to the wish list. RIA customer service is top notch. I wouldn't hesitate to buy if RIA is standing behind it.

I had to check to be of what you meant by "sick". I've heard young folks use the word "sick" to describe something good. There does seem to be some bug going around. My wife has it so that means I'll probably get it soon. Hope you get back to normal soon. Be careful with those shots. They make you feel better tonight but not so good tomorrow. I'm sure you've been there. Your tonsils are red It sounds like the flu I'm glad it's not me but sorry it's you. My Hallmark attempt.

Been quit for over 10 years. Cold turkey is the way to go. You must be mentally prepared and you must want to do it. You are in control.

Shouldn't he be posting in the "Knives and Bladed Tools" section? He clearly has an axe to grind.

I've not made any firearm purchases at Bill's but even with small stuff, I was treated well.

Tennessee Bills Prohibit Hunting on Private Lands

That's what I thought. Plus, it's just common courtesy. Yeah, I know, courtesy isn't that common anymore. -
Do you take it to a gunsmith or a clockmaker?

Fun Thread! What is your favorite "cool" song?
Motasyco replied to Punisher84's topic in General Chat
Good one! Excellent tune. Stevie Ray did a mighty respectable job with that as well. Of course, Stevie Ray did a mighty fine job on every song. Edit: I would be remiss if I didn't mention Little Wing in the same post that mentions Jimi and Stevie Ray. -

OK, I'll grant you that. If I really want to "amp it up", I'll plug in the Strat, turn off the lights, and get lost in some 12 bar blues. -

I don't need a song to be cool. -
I'll echo what's already been said. The test is a piece of cake. If you're at least semi conscious through the class, you should be able to pass the test. Much of it is common sense. The goal should not be to just pass the test. Get something out of it. Her life and future could depend on it. I can't speak for all classes but my wife and I took ours at the Knox County Sheriff's range. The classroom portion was a full 8 hours followed by the range time. Overall, it was 12 hours well spent. 7AM to 7PM. The class was excellent and we got a lot of good information directly from a LEO. I've heard of other classes that just go through the motions. If you're spending the time and money, attend a class that will actually provide some useful information. Even if it means driving a ways. The course should not be "a joke" as mentioned earlier. If it is, you took the wrong course.

Punctuation and capitalization seem to be lost arts. I don't pretend to be an expert but it clearly would have helped in understanding the original post. This thread brings to mind another question that may help clarify, or perhaps, muddy the situation. If a gun becomes "joint" property as described by Dolomite_supafly, could a purchase then, by default, be interpreted as a straw purchase? An example: My wife and I were at a gun show. She found a gun she wanted. I had "our" cash in my pocket as she was not carrying her purse, only her ID and credit cards. We both work, and have income that goes into the same bank account. If we go to a gun show and want to take cash, we get a lump sum from the account, not two withdrawals, one for each of us. That would be silly. While she was going through the paperwork and background check, I decided to browse some nearby tables. I pulled out "our" cash and gave her the amount she would need for the purchase. The seller became alarmed and said he couldn't sell her the gun if I was paying for it. It would be illegal as she would be buying the gun for me. We explained that we were married and shared the same bank account and the money was ours, not just mine. We showed our IDs with the same last name and address. No go. The seller took plastic so she pulled out her debit card, from the same account the cash came from, and made the purchase. If what Dolomite_supafly says is accurate, and it makes some sense considering community property laws, once the purchase was made, the gun belonged to both of us anyway. In the past, I've not purchased a firearm for her as a gift because of the described incident. By the vendors description, a gift would amount to a straw purchase as I had made the purchase intending it to be hers. I hadn't considered "joint" property. I do understand it is legal for me to sell a firearm to another state resident if that person can legally own a firearm. Would that be different than giving one as a gift to a person that meets the legal requirement for ownership? Is it only considered a straw purchase if one party cannot legally make the purchase themselves? If I buy a gun and it is also legally hers, every gun I buy becomes a gift to her. If, for some reason, she was unable to pass the background check (not the case, she has an HCP), would I be breaking the law when I buy a firearm because it also becomes hers? Perhaps one our legal experts could provide some insight.

What would you do in a situation like this?

I'm happy to see we're still having fun with this thread.
