  1. You only need to log the guns you acquire using the license. When you use the license to make a purchase, the seller will also log the transaction. Your records better match theirs. You must then log the disposal of any of the guns that were acquired with the license. They'll send you a book with the rules. Your first purchase will pay for the license by saving you the transfer and TICS. As the great master Yoda would say, "No think - do"
  2. I'm in the east end of Hamblen. Close to an hour and a half to Coal Creek, Norris, Sevierville Indoor Range, and about an hour and twenty minutes to Bubbling Springs. I've been to all of them and kept track of travel times. I do tend to observe the posted speed limits though.
  3. This is pretty simple to me. If you want to post your business, no problem, post it. But if you post it there should be some requirement for size and placement of the posting. A 3 inch gunbuster in the lower corner of a door would not reasonably be expected to be seen. In my opinion, it should be a minimum of 18x18 inches, directly in front of the entrance. That way I can see it as I pull in to the parking lot and move on to another business that wants my money. Actually a 4x 8 foot sign I can see from the road would be even better. I hate taking the time to park and get all of the way to the door before finding I'm not wanted there.
  4. Yes, I agree, I should be able to. But I have neighbors very (way too) close. And one calls the law if the wind blows the wrong way. As odd as it may sound, I lived 10 years in the commie state of NY and shot in my backyard all the time with no problems. Contrary to popular belief, NY is not all concrete and skyscrapers. My home there was in a much more rural area than anything in Hamblen County. I can't say I miss NY but I sure miss my property there.
  5. Every bit of info I can get will help. Thanks for your input.
  6. I just deleted everything I had written. Let's just say I zorted it out and decided everyone's entitled to there opinion. Oops, did I use the term entitled?
  7. I got my Shield over a week ago and haven't run one down the pipe yet. It's killing me! I've got to find a place to shoot that's within an hour's drive. Darn Hamblen County.
  8. I'm putting it on my paper calendar. I'm old school.
  9. My uncle has an 1873 Springfield Trapdoor rifle that I'm interested in buying from him. The problem is that I don't know what to offer him. He says he bought it years ago for $600 and that it was graded "Fine". It is in very nice condition. That's one of my concerns. It maybe looks too good. I do know it's chambered for 45-70 and is a rifle, not a carbine. Any ball park ideas on it's value or "things to look for" would be greatly appreciated. I know it's difficult to judge without pictures or more information. I have intended to get pictures but I don't get over to see him often. In fact he gives me crap about it and jokingly calls me a stranger. Our schedules just don't match up well. I'd like to get a good deal but I don't want to take advantage of the old guy or make a big mistake. Advice? Well, advice other than the obvious "get some pictures"?
  10. Congratulations on bringing that back home. Nice piece.
  11. I used to go to Bubbling Springs, the closest outdoor range to where I live. About an hour and twenty minutes drive. The last several trips, I spent more time waiting to shoot than I did shooting. When I combine the wait time to the nearly three hours behind the wheel, the entire day is shot (no pun intended). Leasing land for "hunting" has become nearly impossible. I'm willing to spend tens of thousands of dollars for someplace of my own where I can go and know that when I get there I can start firing away. Maybe even invite some of my TGO friends.
  12. This is why I'm in the market for secluded land in east TN. Unfortunately most of it is on a 45 degree incline.
  13. Haying, milking, and barn cleaning paid for my first car when I was in high school. It taught me responsibility and the value of a dollar, things that apparently are no longer important in a society where getting a government handout is considered a win.
  14. That was my take. From my point of view, Incumbents can go. Let's see some fresh faces. Maybe some real people.
  15. The Rs haven't been doing us any favors lately either. I think we have several very intelligent, knowledgeable, and politically involved individuals here in the TGO community that I would vote for if they ran.
  16. You mean that wasn't spam? Oops, too late.
  17. I'm getting old, grumpy, disgusted, feeling scrappy, and carrying extra mags.
  18. Someone else must have thought it was shady too. It's been flagged and removed. The tap dancing continues.
  19. I guess I can't tell what's good and what's bad anymore.
  20. I might have used a more colorful phrase that I recently heard Uncle Ted use but I don't need any black SUVs pulling into my driveway.
  21. Did you write it in English or Spanish?
  22. http://www.volunteertv.com/news/headlines/House_Rejects_Guns_In_Parking_Lots_148606605.html I'm starting to think anyone but incumbents.
  23. No such thing as public land anymore. It's government land.
  24. So sorry you have to wait. I bought mine, took it home, and was back to work in a one hour lunch break.
