  1. So, as someone who feeds his family on the internet, I'm generally pro net neutrality. But, there's a lot to consider here. First, I would pretty much prefer the government stay out of it at large, but recognize that there are some giant government-blessed monopolies that can and do affect the market at large. As, the free market doesn't really care if you live or die - we're going to eventually have to come up with some framework that makes sense. Obama's attempt in 2015 was a half-hearted swing - and sweeping it up under Title II of the Telecommunications Act of 1934 wasn't the right approach. The internet isn't a public utility - and attempts to regulate private companies as such is clunky at best. Action was needed. But, neither can we take our hands off - or should we. You hear the telecom companies complaining about all the investment they're making in their networks, but almost every big infrastructure project has some public money financing it. We as taxpayers deserve to get traffic via those lines - because we do pay for some of them. A lot of what we're seeing right now from the big telecom carriers is more concerned with getting around the Telecom Reform Act of 1994 than it is anything else. That's a whole different (long) post.
  2. And with a word of thanks to Bud, thread closed.
  3. We see plenty of pistols coming out of there. Any place is going to have issues as they scale - but they’ve certainly got some incentives to square them away over time. But, either link to a primary source instead of “my buddy says” or I’m closing this thread.
  4. I just reread your post. Your feeling like you can't grieve this woman is completely rational and normal. Doesn't seem like she deserves that from you. But, maybe what you're really feeling despondent over is the fact that you didn't have a relationship that a son should with his mom. That you can grieve - and feel justified in doing so. And, that's something you can do something about. You can make a list of the things that you would have liked to have had in that relationship - and you and your wife can ensure that your kid is not deprived of those. The sibling issue is tough. You want to have some kind of relationship - but feel like they'll try to drag you down to their level. That's really hard. I'll definitely keep you guys in my prayers.
  5. Man, I’m sorry! I really mean that. Despite the sum of your experience to this point, here you are. And, people in your life are better for having you - shaped by that experience - in theirs. Don’t waste the gift. I expect your future has more to this story. I’m pulling for you.
  6. Never underestimate the ingenuity of an engineer with a paycheck...
  7. I loved watching him send the RC glider to the edge of space with the weather balloon.
  8. Maybe you can try this out after 14 hours of building when your kid's enthusiasm and your patience has long since worn off:
  9. I feel like I'm spending more time beating up this shotgun than it deserves. The 870 is a great platform. If this thing works for you - shoot it and enjoy it. Now that I've had time to really look at it, I will give Remington grief for giving their customers "something new and revolutionary" in a way that only a major conglomerate would, though. They've riveted a magwell to an aluminum receiver and debuted a new shotgun. I guess you'll know about it if you hit it hard enough to knock it out of alignment - but, take a hard enough hit and you've potentially damaged the underlying receiver, too. Why not a cast or forged one piece? The SBS idea is an interesting one, I guess.
  10. Savage bolt guns may be the most underrated value in the market today. You might find somethings close in price here and there. But nowhere will you find such consistent shooters straight out of the box at anywhere near that price.
  11. We've got some folks who've got really hard paths in front of them for a while. Whether health issues, or family stuff, or both - some folks are having a really hard time. They can use your prayers. It brings to mind the old Ian Maclaren quote, "Be kind, for everyone you know is fighting a hard battle."
  12. This week I've been reaching out to some members who haven't been on much lately - many of whom just have as much as they can bear going on in their lives. As you're giving thanks this holiday season, take a moment to look around you and take note of all that you've been given - because life can change so fast. Give thanks. Many of you know and have relationships with some of the folks I've been talking to, and I don't need to mention them here. But, for those of you who are longtime active members and know folks who haven't been on much, reach out. People always appreciate knowing that someone is thinking about them.
  13. Oh, I thought you had somehow scored some brown damascus models. I don’t miss many sprint runs. Just got this sprint run PM2 in M390. It may be my favorite knife.
  14. Decide you ever need more room in your safe, give me a shout. I’d love to find a brown FRN model of either.
  15. I’ve got a Damascus Delica that I went full custom on. Add in some Micarta scales and a titanium deep carry clip and all the sudden you’re in expensive knife category. Those two are gateways into nice knives.
  16. I'll echo and say that I prefer non-serrated as well in every circumstance but one - and for EDC, plain edge just fits the bill. Under $75, I'd go Spyderco Endura, or Delica, Resilience or Tenacious. Those last two ought to be $40ish on the street
  17. Congrats!
  18. I’d rather have it on an 1100, too.
  19. In theory, I guess. That said, six round mags are short and bulky. It just seems like that’s going to be clunky coming out of a load carrier. As with anything, practice, practice practice I guess.
  20. When I was taught to run a shotgun, the paradigm was you’re either shooting it, moving with it, or feeding it. This doesn’t seem to materially affect any of those. I’m sure they’ll sell a bunch of them. But, I don’t see how this really does anything better than another shotgun.
  21. Somebody help me out here. I’m sure the gamers will appreciate this, and I’m all for more choice in the market. But, does this actually affect anyone who really runs a shotgun?
  22. That's a good call. I've got one that rides in my pocket to keep the mudbug, pen and light from falling down in my pocket.
  23. I could go for a Spyderco PM3 or Worker, too for smaller dress carry, too. I've got one of the sprint run PM2's that I put a deep carry clip and canvas micarta scales on. I did it specifically for when I'm wearing a tailored suit and don't want a heavier blade weighing the pockets down. I can appendix carry it in my waistband with the clip behind my belt. No one is the wiser and I've got access to something really fast and pointy if needed.
