I'll check them out. I don't discount the energy delivered to a target - pushing a 98gr round that fast is going to dump some energy when it hits something. I question what the shooter is going to feel (and recognize that some of that is going to be subjective.) It's a cool design. I like how they appear to have lowered the bore axis. At first I looked at that beavertail and thought, "wow they're serious about that." But they have to be, I guess. Without it, it would be like the Model 97 of the pistol world.

I'd want to see some measured data there. That sounds great in a marketing piece - but Newton still has to sign off. And, he's a jerk...

Seems like an expensive way to try to save $200. Truth of the matter is this is a SHOT show gimmick to get some free press and generate some traffic to their booth. The range day articles even indicate as much when they talk about production models will be 300BLK but range day models being 5.56 "to save on ammo costs."

This reminds me of the NAA Earl that I had a while back. It wasn't very practical, but it sure was fun to shoot. https://northamericanarms.com/product-category/firearms/1860-magnums-the-sheriff-earl-hogleg/ Might scratch the itch with something that generally less than $275 on the street.

No way I'm putting my suppressor on a rifle that's throwing a non stabilized round... While I get the fact that practical effects on accuracy might be mitigated at CQB distances, unfortunately bullets rarely stop there. This seems like an easy way to break the "know your target and what's beyond it" rule in spirit.

It’s pretty.

I’m almost entirely convinced that you get better service and a better relationship at a dealer that’s outside of a major metro market. I don’t know what it is - maybe it’s that there’s always someone walking in behind you in a big dealership. Maybe it’s just a small town thing. I traveled to buy my last truck after I just couldn’t find anyone who much wanted to sell me one here in the Nashville area.
-
Do we have any more documented evidence of this most recent bash Beretta thread then we do any in any of the others of late? It seems like we’ve got plenty of, “I know a dealer who says” but it doesn’t go any further.

Yeah, me too. I texted him earlier - hoping to hear from him soon.
-
Talked to him today. Slow progress. Heart is good. Hoping to go home soon. Prayers are very much appreciated.

I’ll try that A01 when I get a chance. I’d be hard pressed to switch out my ThruNite Ti3. That thing is amazing for the price.

Yeah, they’re fine. I mean, it’s an ammo can - not a Pelican case. Use it for what it’s intended and you’ll be fine. I wouldn’t stash any fancy lenses in them. Gaskets seem fine. I wouldn’t try to raft the Colorado with them. They stack well. Drop them full and they’ll dent - just like the originals.

The Costco and Academy cans are functionally the same - I’d guess they’re coming off the same line somewhere. I doubt any of them are made domestically.

Texted with him a little bit ago. He said they’re unhooking all kinds of stuff and are talking about sending him home this weekend. I haven’t been able to go by because one of my kids has the flu - and there’s no way I’m risking taking that up in there. That said, his spirits seem good and he says he’s feeling okay.

@MrsMonkeyMan2500 made me aware that we lost a member this week - @Mikefite. It appears that he had a heart attack while driving, and was killed in the accident: http://www.wsmv.com/story/37220689/police-one-person-killed-in-i-40-crash While I've not seen an official obituary, many of you are no doubt familiar with his amazing work as an artist - some probably proudly wearing his tattoos. There's a reddit thread here. We'll post more as it becomes available - including possible ways to donate to his family that meant everything to him. Your thoughts and prayers for his family in the coming days are appreciated.

Beaufort is the place to stay while in the area in my opinion. They've got some great smaller places - including some great bed and breakfasts.

One of my daughters got her first knife this year. She chose an old school slipjoint sodbuster. I’ve got several GEC models, and I’m always amazed at the quality of their builds. There’s something to be said for a good high carbon steel, too. Despite all of the amazing powdered super steels these days, it’s good to have a blade that is easy to get super sharp and will take on some character over time.
-
GEC is turning out some truly great blades these days. They’d be tough to compete with. I hate to see a maker go, but I question how big the market space for non-tacticool knives that seem to have eaten the world these days really is? Since the free market doesn’t much care if you live or die, I expect this is the end of the line for them. Maybe someone will buy the brand’s name in an asset sale, but that sure won’t soften the blow for the folks losing their jobs.

In 2002, the ATF shifted from reporting up through Treasury to reporting through the Department of Justice (under the newly created department of Homeland Security).

Keeping members in your thoughts this holiday season

Wowzers! Sorry to hear about the relationship. And the accident. Sounds like your heading in the right direction, though. Glad things are looking up. Door is always open in Tennessee! -
Magtech is fine ammo for most use cases. I've shot a ton of it over the years. Seems like you ought to be able to do better than that on pricing, though. I just paid $118/420 for lake city M855 on stripper clips. Seems like there was a rebate through the end of the year, but you still ought to be able to do sub-$300/1000 shipped for M193.

I was thinking about you the other day! Glad to hear things are going okay. Don’t be a stranger. -
Doug is out of surgery. He’s not out of the woods yet, but is doing okay right now. They’ve got the breathing tube out. Right now they’re worried about stroke risk and some clots. We’ll know more tomorrow, but be prayerful he can get some rest and begin the process of healing.
