  1. http://nashvillepublicradio.org/post/tennessee-lawmakers-hope-set-tone-years-gun-debate-rare-show-bipartisanship http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/Default.aspx?BillNumber=SB2476 Interesting "gun related" bill making its way through the senate - exempting the sale of gun safes from sales tax. It's got support from both sides - and the NRA may sign on.
  2. I’m sure I’ll be in.
  3. I was having this conversation with a parent the other day. At least around Nashville, lacrosse and hockey have really seen a surge as parents are fearful of football. It would change the game, but you’re starting to see support for taking the helmets away so that players can’t lead with their heads.
  4. Have they given any description as to how they’re making the slide easier to rack?
  5. So, a thumb safety, a grip safety and "single action." I'm curious as to what they mean by that last part. I guess with an internal hammer, it is cocked once you rack the slide? I'd like to shoot it. There's sure not a lot of marketing cohesion for a launch
  6. Glock 19. They've made plenty that are prettier and more fun. They've yet to make a better one.
  7. Don’t y’all make me come up there...
  8. The hard thing about this (as a resident of Nashville) is that we all end up paying for this in unintended ways. Forget the overtime and gallivanting around the world with your lover - frankly that's probably cheaper for the taxpayers than a lot of what would be going on otherwise. Withstanding all that - we have actual issues in Nashville that need to be addressed - and this distracts from that. I've been here for 25 years. I can remember when it was a "big little town" - and it's not that anymore. It's growing. A lot. And that's good. It benefits the state economically for companies to want to do business here. But, we've got real traffic issues. Housing is increasingly unaffordable for a lot of folks. Infrastructure is falling apart in places - and needs real attention in others. There are certainly folks who would disagree with me - and don't like the kind of growth that Nashville has experienced or the people it's brought in. Fine. But you're not going to put Pandora back in the box. We've made some decisions to get us to where we are - and we've done a lot of things right. But, as is so often the case, what's gotten us here won't get us where we need to go next. That takes both vision and focus. Mayor Barry has been applauded for her vision - and I've been involved in enough initiatives that she's been directly involved in to know that she really does care. Unfortunately this will distract from her ability to focus. We'll see if she gets through it. Y'all know that I'm not particularly partisan. We've seen worse mayors in the time I've been here. We've certainly seen less effective ones. Regardless, I'm going to fall back on an old saying that I find increasingly valuable. It's attributed to the English theologian Ian McLaren. He said, "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." There will be at least an ethics investigation that may hold her to account - and, the voters get another say next year. We'll see what happens. But all the while, the clock is still running in Nashville.
  9. Weird. It does look like everything has suddenly disappeared.
  10. I’m going to want to see some real data on those heavily tapered mags before I take a chance on one. Neat concept. But that’s a complicated geometry.
  11. I’m afraid the pistol preferences of trolls will remain a mystery...
  12. Oh, my sincerest congratulations to you guys. Y’all are going to be great parents.
  13. Been married nine times...maybe it’s you.
  14. I'm getting tired of these threads...
  15. Seems like I saw @PackinMama on a few weeks back.
  16. We could talk for two hours on that by itself. I've got a microcontroller based system that will control airflow and thus temperature to practically a degree or two, but I almost never use it. Heart of the matter on the BGE and the Kamodo Joe like David has is that they're so thick, you can pretty easily do an 8 hour run without touching the vents.
  17. Glad you’re home my friend.
  18. He hasn’t been able to get online in the hospital. I’m certain he’ll read (and respond) with some detail once he gets home.
  19. I hurt for these victims and their families. I often think that in trying to protect our children and keep them safe as much as we do these days, in some ways we've done them a disservice. The bully plays an important place in a child's development - and when we step in to deal with it as adults, we might just be depriving our children - and the bullies of important lessons. Life isn't fair. It's full of people who will abuse their power to pick on the weak. It's important to learn the skill of standing up - that it has consequences, and you might get hurt - but it's worth it. It's also important to let bullies try it out - and maybe some of them will figure out that it doesn't feel good in the long run. Maybe some of them will get hit in the nose. Regardless, most bullies historically have learned that there's always someone stronger than you. But, we've screwed this up - we've tried to keep our kids from experiencing any discomfort - and don't let them work through things on their own. We shouldn't be surprised that we see escalations. As a forensic investigator - online cyberbullying definitely adds a different component - that often amplifies the problem. There's not really a solution here other than to be aware of your child's use of technology and a lot of conversations about these hard topics. By the time they're in middle school it's too late.
  20. Being a non-stabilized round, I’m not sure we can assume that. A 4” group at 50 yards is fine for CQB accuracy, but that bullet is unstable enough by 50 yards that the group could potentially be much larger at 100 yards. Somebody correct me if my thinking is off.
  21. I’d love to get ahold of one of these, a high speed camera, and some XM855 tracers. I’d be willing to bet that once that bullet starts to keyhole, the trajectory would get really interesting pretty quickly.
  22. Got a quick update from Doug yesterday. Hopefully he’ll be coming home on Thursday.
  23. I find that most often I run into Murphy when I don’t pay proper attention to Newton.
  24. That's sweet. Have fun with it.
  25. People have been rifling barrels in one form or another since the 15th century - for a reason. I wanted to call this an autoloading musket - but then realized I was being unfair to muskets as there were plenty of rifled variants.
