  1. No, despite my sunny disposition, it has unfortunately affected my worldview for some years now
  2. People really suck.
  3. They’re looking for cheap 7.62x39 just like everyone else...
  4. I think we’re probably all better off with less drama in our lives.
  5. An old member here used to have a Ruger carbine in .44mag that was integrally suppressed. It may be one of my favorite rifles of all time.
  6. I know I've said this often, but it probably bears repeating for newcomers and those in the back. We welcome all kinds of people on TGO. Our membership is as wide at the internet. But, we do have expectations. Beyond the code of conduct - I have a simple rule - our members should add something to this community and the conversations that happen here. This is not a uniform group - nor should you assume it to be. If you're going to participate in a discussion, you should bring something of value to it. To our newcomers - that also includes things like: Descriptive thread titles Using the search function to see if maybe there have been some other threads about a particular subject over the last 10 years Avoid over generalizations and blanket statements- For example, saying "I HATE liberals" for example may explain what makes you the way you are - but does little to add to the actual discussion. As you step into a new community, maybe take a look around and get a feel for things. Slow down a bit. Figure out where you can add value. Where do you have expertise? Contribute. There's a lot of drama in our world right now. We welcome new members to our community, but we don't have a ton of bandwidth if you're bringing drama with you...
  7. There was a great episode of This American Life a few weeks back where they interviewed Frank Borman, the commander of Apollo 8 which was the first human orbit around the moon. He recalls how boring he felt that space was. https://www.thisamericanlife.org/655/the-not-so-great-unknown It's worth a listen.
  8. Welcome to TGO, I think?
  9. I don’t know about others’ experiences, but every deer that I’ve ever shot or seen shot with a slug had a lot of blood trauma. I don’t know if it’s just that there’s so much mass, or they’re slow moving, or some combination of both. But, there was so much damage to the meat that I don’t think it’s worth it.
  10. That South African .308 was good ammo.
  11. We're seeing a fair number of logistics systems hacks lately. People fall for phishing emails and enter their credentials. Many use the same password everywhere - and thus allows for activity to be monitored. That way, they know where the iPads, guns, xBoxes whatever are - instead of knocking off a truckload of bananas.
  12. To be fair - there was probably at least a 30 year period where you could’ve been a young kid and caught a Bond marathon on TBS. I think i was 4 when The Spy Who Loved Me came out - and maybe 5 for Moonraker. I don’t remember what my first Bond movie in the theater was - but I certainly walked to the theater up the street with a few of my friends growing up.
  13. I’ve been using a Leupold VX-R in the role lately and have been really pleased. I’m not shooting it on that platform correctly, but have run one on a Scout Squad with no problem.
  14. So yeah, it's one "normal" firing followed by two slam fires with the gas routed to actuate the modified bolts in succession. I wonder what the out of battery rate was in testing?
  15. This shooting has been getting a lot of attention in Nashville - especially after the Jocques Clemmons shooting the year before. The particulars of this case seem to stem from how they stopped the car in the first place. Grand juries almost never indict an officer - so that in and of itself makes this significant.
  16. Same person clearly did both.
  17. I’d like for the FBI to conduct an investigation into who did this.
  18. They’ve been talking about it and allowing large bore single shots. License holders got a survey earlier this year. I have not seen a change - and wouldn’t expect one this season.

    ...

Man you’re deep in the rabbit hole...
  20. It kind of hurts my feelings to see a gun with that character get refinished. Be careful with the bluing chemicals if you try it - that stuff is pretty toxic.
  21. Between Jaws and Oddjob - those Bond movies had two of the creepiest henchmen of all times.
  22. We often talk so much about bad stuff happening on this board - it's probably worth noting that dental health is one area where life has gotten so much better for the majority of the population. It used to be that by middle age - dental health for a lot of people was a major issue. And, dental issues can lead to so many other health issues. In just a couple of generations with the introduction of fluoride - you've got people keeping their teeth into their 80s. It's really amazing - and worth noting.
  23. I remember Jaws for the first time as a young kid on some TBS Bond marathon. I don't know that there's even been a movie character that's creeped me out for as long as Jaws has.
