Why don't some people have the sense to realize when they step over the line? I see a Cease and Desist in someone's future. The sad part about this is that dealing with this takes resources away from this forum that could be used elsewhere (Celebration of Liberty, Guns and Gear Expo, etc...). This guy's nuisance actually affects everyone's experience when the admins have to deal with this.

Remember that when you strap on a weapon and walk out the door that you individually represent all of us collectively whether you like it or not. Frankly, I wish we could have it differently, but we can't. The guy I saw in REI the other day in ripped BDU pants, OCing a poorly maintained Desert Eagle and smelling like alcohol from 8 feet away represents us just like I do when I walk out the door concealed. Strickj has it right. You should be the model of civility whether you think it's deserved or not. Otherwise the HCP holder who left without paying is going to make the news, or at least the Tennessean and the Commercial Appeal.

Alternatively, you could have it rethreaded. The guys down at Hero Gear just threaded my 700 LTR to 5/8-24 and made a sweet thread protector for it as well. A little more expensive, but not much more. Plus, that's one less thing to come loose and cause a baffle strike in a pretty expensive can.

I've got a MK III with a Tactical Solutions Pac-Lite upper and Yankee Hill suppressor. It is a pretty solid platform. If I had it to do over again, I would love an integral like the Gem-Tech Oasis, but couldn't find one that was both user-servicable and available for purchase within say - 18 months. People speak well of the John Norrell units and others, but good luck actually buying one. I think you need a note from Congress or something. User servicability was pretty important to me going in with a .22 unit, and more important now that I've actually got one. With my Yankee Hill Mite, if you haven't lubed your threads with some anti-seize compound you will have significant issues disassembling the can within a couple of hundred shots. The whole setup is a few inches longer than most integral units, but I feel like it will last longer. If you are going to run the MKIII I definitely recommend the Tactical Solutions upper. It really changes the balance of the pistol. It was pretty good to start with, but I have really been impressed with the addition. Not to mention it drops the weight by about half a pound - which is always good when I drop it in my survival kit. I put a pair a Crimson Trace grips on mine. I like them pretty well, but if you've already got a micro-Aimpoint I'd give that a run as well. If you're ever in the Nashville area and want to shoot it, just let me know.

Walther PPS - 7+1, less than an inch thick and a great shooter. You can also get 6 or 8 round magazines.

Hotshot's mention of the mini chainsaw is a great one. It will rip through a 4 inch log in seconds. In addition to that, though you need a larger fixed blade knife. I always remember what one of my first survival instructors told me - You can always do a small knife job with a big knife, but you can never do a big knife job with a small knife. Your brand and preference may vary. I personally perfer the R5-5 from Jeff Randall at RAT Cutlery.
