  1. I'm 35, and cannot imagine having grandkids at this point in my life! That said, Buttonhook if you are my age, you've got some experience having kids at a young age. Help impart your experience to you daughter. Her choices will have a lasting impact on her life, but that does not have to define her experience or her child's experience in life from here forward. Everyday is a new day, and while there are always things that we let get in the way, there is at least one person everyday who can begin to change your experience for the better. I appreciate Mike.357's post above. Were I in your situation I would listen to what he has to say, and even reach out to him. He has lived the highs and definite lows of your experience for the last couple years. And, his focus is where it rightly belongs - on the kid who doesn't deserve to suffer the consequences of bad choice made by their parents. To the OP, from your posts, you look like you are trying to do everything in your capability to change your current situation. I applaud you for that, and expect you will come through this fine. Whether it's getting the Navigation fixed (run away! quickly!), fixing the F-150, or finding a temporary beater, you'll be fine. Don't lose perspective. This is just a speed bump. It's a pain right now, but you'll be fine.
  2. As much as I want to like it, the knife just isn't doing much for me. I love having both a sharpener and a firestarter in the sheath. The full tang is a must. The steel pommel is a nice feature. The roll marks and branding are a detraction. So are the serrations in my opinion - you've got to use a sharp edge on those ferro rods, so, your either going to be screwing up the serrations or be stuck going further up the blade to the plain edge. That is going to result in a loss of control which could lead to an injury in a survival situaiton.
  3. I really like that Micarta inlaid Sebenza. That would be a good working knife. One of these days I'm going to get myself a Snakewood inlaid Damascus Mnandi.
  4. I saw that blade and a few similar ones at a show a few months back. Great looking blade. I know its performance is great, but I would hate to scratch it up, too.
  5. His tire sponsor must be very understanding.
  6. Make sure you check your credit report more regularly over the next year or so as well. Your glove box is the second most common place to have your identity stolen.
  7. I worked for a security agency at the time, and was doing some work for the Port Authority. When I'm not on my phone, I'll share the full story. For now I'll just say that I'm glad I was getting coffee. My office was on the 78th floor on the side of impact. The first plane went in on the 81st floor. I would have been one of the people they never found.
  8. Welcome. I was out there a couple of weeks ago for hood to coast.
  9. I was in 1WTC that morning, and watched both planes go in. I also had the pleasure and honor of spending the next nine months there at ground zero as well. Time and distance blunt a lot of wounds.
  10. There's got to be a good story behind this gift.
  11. Nice. Looks like you found a different place to put it, too.
  12. Yeah, I think a great vacation would be to take your time driving up that stretch of coast, enjoying the small coastal towns. On another note, I sat next to a gut on the plane who was on the winning team in the SuperMasters division (entire team over 60). They won in 23:15:00 for an average mile split over the 197 miles of 5:55! That's unbelievable and awe inspiring at the same time.
  13. Loose battery terminal(s). The vibration from trying to start is enough to make a connection and get it to start immediately after. Try giving both terminals a good twist, and see if they move at all. If they do, you've found your culprit. Clean them off, tighten them up, and you should be good to go. Hopefully a cheap fix.
  14. It's a relay, so you aren't doing the whole thing by yourself. You are basically running a marathon in three parts. Only a few people run it solo. And they are amazing.
  15. Ran the Hood to Coast out in Oregon. Sleep deprived. A little sore. A lot of fun.
  16. So I just finished running the Nike Hood to Coast out in Oregon. 2 days - 197 miles - from the top of Mt. Hood out to the coast. Every time I run it, I'm struck by how beautiful the Oregon coast is. Definitely something you should see once in your life. It's completely different than the Gulf or Atlantic beaches. If you're ever looking for a great way to spend 4 or 5 days, I could think of a lot worse ways to spend your vacation.
  17. Man... that's nice! Have fun with it.
  18. Nice work! I was talking to someone recently who argued that it should be considered a civic responsiility for every citizen to have a working knowledge of their country's primary battle rifle. I would extend that out to being able to put one together as well. It's not a hard task by any means, but it feels good to know that you can do it.
  19. I did enjoy the bumper sticker I saw, reading "Jesus is my savior, I'm sorry Obama is yours" Y'all let me know when you want to eat some B&C barbecue, and I'll be there. Or, if we're in that area - copper kettle. Wednesday is meatloaf day.
  20. That's the one.
  21. I know that ESEE is making kydex for all of their blades now. I don't know if one would retrofit to one of the Ontario made knives or not. I would check over on bladeforums.
  22. I've had one for a couple of years. It's my goto AR. Love it. You're welcome to shoot it next time we're down at OnTarget.
  23. As you stated that you've not fired a shotgun, I would definitely recommend firing one with a both grip styles before you consider buying one. For me personally, I would choose just about any other weapon available over a pistol grip shotgun. With typical SD loads, it is going to be way too punishing to fire for anything but effect at more than a yard or so. With a shoulder stock, it's still quite possible to miss, but much easier to get on target and control. I'd be much more comfortable with an 870 or 500 in a traditional setup. In my opinion, there's really only one environment when a pistol grip shotgun is warranted, and that's inside a sailboat or someplace where space is cramped and contact is likely to be at very close range.
  24. You need an ammonia cycle refrigerator. This is an old-school cycle, but still used commonly in RV's. Basically, a tiny burner evaporates ammonia and drives the cooling cycle. 323 Refrigerator http://www.arizonaenergy.org/AltEnergyClub/SMALL%20AMMONIA%20REFRIGERATOR.htm The one listed above is a 3-way. 110V, 12V and Propane. I bet you could look around on ebay and find a used on cheap.
