  1. ESEE 5 is absolutely bomb proof. It's my go to big knife, and my get home blade. There's video on the web of people battening them through other "good" knives. Abusive, yes. But I like to know that my knives can take anything I'm likely to dish out.
  2. I like how this thread has turned.
  3. The HEST Fixed is a sweet little blade that's tough as nails! I really like the hollow handle. I've got a mischmetal rod, some snare wire and a fishing kit in mine.
  4. Nice review. Randy, I'm looking forward to taking this class when you offer it again. I had a previous commitment this time around, but am looking forward to it in the future.
  5. I can appreciate a dissenting view. There's no reason to be a jerk just to stir stuff up, though. He posted his view in the SR1911 thread and was called on the way he posted. Had that been it, he would have gotten a pass. People have differing views all the time. His was probably a view worth discussing in a different thread. Instead, he couldn't discuss his views like a big boy, got his feelings hurt, and posted this "better than all of you" thread. I'll tolerate you being arrogant. We've got all flavors of arrogance around here. But, in my book, you only get to be malicious once. And, at that point you've shown you're no good for this community. Either get a better position or better rhetoric. This guy won't missed.
  6. Here's wishing the OP good luck in finding another forum to peddle his enlightened views. Don't let the door hit you on your way out.
  7. Nice blades! ESEE-5 is my get home alive blade. I'd trust it with just about any task. Spyderco military is my EDC. Great blade. Clip is the weak point, though. I find myself adjusting mine about every 6 months. Great blade, though!
  8. I think it's still Big South Fork. edit: Yep, though it's pretty narrow up there. You could easily end up in either. http://www.nps.gov/biso/planyourvisit/upload/BISO%20Brochure%202009%20map%20Reduced.pdf
  9. American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge?
  10. The whole Mine 81/Blue Heron area of the park is a real gem! I guess people just don't use the Stearns, KY entrance that much, but it's one of my favorite areas.
  11. The right shoes will change your whole attitude! Nice work out there.
  12. And few and far between
  13. Wow. I'm glad she's okay, and guessing that she probably went home with some serious antibiotics. Catfish have always creeped me out for that very reason.
  14. Wow! I'm pretty sure a woman who would take your gun would probably shoot you with it.
  15. That's really cool. Congrats on finishing it. Let us know how it shoots.
  16. I wouldn't pack your strike anywhere matches in the same can, but otherwise I'd be perfectly comfortable with your arrangement.
  17. Per the Ruger manual, the mini14 Target model is .223 only. All other mini14's will handle either.
  18. Saturday's edition had another big story on the ATF's rogue program. This article was underneath it. I'll try to find a link to the bigger article.
  19. I'm sorry to hear this. Your family is in our prayers.
  20. Nice review. I look forward to doing some training with Randy. Thanks!
  21. One other thought crosses my mind in this thread, and that is all of the people who have pointed their weapons at this man's head over the years. Yes, they are beginners. Yes, he told them to. And yes, every single one of them broke one of the fundamental rules of weapon safety. It doesn't matter if someone has "checked" your weapon and told you to do it. When you pick up a weapon, the final responsibility for using it safely rests with you. Period. The above picture is not okay on either end of that weapon. I know we attract members who are new to firearms all the time. I know we have people who don't have other training, whether an HCP class, a defensive class or otherwise. Learn from these peoples' mistakes. When you pick up a weapon, you are the final arbiter of it's use. You can't delegate this responsibility. You are the one who would have to sleep with yourself if you shot someone. Don't allow anyone to tell you to do something unsafe. There are some great trainers who have jumped in on this thread. I know that they would expect their students to call them on it if they did something unsafe. The thing that really bothers me about this thread is seeing all these other people standing around watching their classmates point a weapon at their instructor's head.
  22. That's really cool!
  23. Did you lick the middle out of the Oreos first like you did when you bought my Tavor box? If so, at least put them in the oven or something to dry them out first. They were seriously soggy, and that whole "old milk" aftertaste detracted from their overall appeal.
  24. +1 Kimber Warrior with an X300
